Without Impeachment, No President Ford
So how did Ford become President? First he was appointed Vice President after Spiro Agnew resigned after a financial scandal. Then he became President after Richard Nixon resigned rather than face certain impeachment and removal. In other words, without impeachment, Gerald Ford would never have been President. So if anyone tells you impeaching Bush and Cheney would be bad for America, just remind them that impeachment gave us our popular 38th President, Gerald Ford. When we impeach Bush and Cheney, the Senate will choose someone who will become just as popular as Ford - perhaps Colin Powell, Chuck Hagel, or Al Gore! Update 1: Amy Goodman tells us what the Corporate Media won't: Ford supported the Indonesian invasion of East Timor that killed 1/3 of the population, and he limited post-Watergate oversight of the White House and appointed Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld to positions of power that prepared them for the current dictatorship.

Kennedy Assassination
Also remember, Ford was a major member of the original assassination commission with its fairy tale bullet trajectory findings.
Then he became President via Sweaty Dick who ran against Kennedy...just saying.
However he became President, he did a good job of being Chief Executive in a time of constitutional stress and showing that our nation withstood something many others would possibly have been much more affected by, and he was not a vindictive Republican as many have been in recent years.
Ford served on the Warren Commission...
was one of those individuals who chose to develop or believe in the magic bullet theory...for an assasination, the truth behind which the American people will never know the truth.
He also was a president who never failed to fall down any set of steps put in front of him.
But the worst thing he ever did was to pardon Dick Nixon prior to impeachment/removal from office/and conviction on crimes we may never fully know about. Ford was the guy who put the president above the law, that every other American must obey or face jail, prison, or other penalties. That just may be the precident that creates the Get Out Of Jail Free card for Bush and company.
Other than that, he was not a particularly bad guy.
The bad guys he brought into his administration and/or kept in his administration are the very bad guys we are now faced with.

For pardoning your FRIEND Nixon, I hope
you rot in your grave and burn in
eternity!
To Me
His Warren Commision work was the most dubious, but his pardoning of Nixon could've very well sealed some of those questions again when they could have been resolved, as in the speculation of Nixon's "Bay of Pigs thing" remark on the WH tapes.
I think people like Ford really believed they were doing the right thing sparing the country the truth, but how could we ever have justice if we never know the truth?
