Today we sent an email encouraging everyone to thank Rep. Maxine Waters for speaking out against George Bush's "impeachable offenses." Congresswoman Maxine Waters Says Bush's Spying Is Impeachable Offense

Rep. Waters said of Bush, prior to the State of the Union: "His message tonight will not deal honestly with the mistakes that he's made. And I believe that the latest revelations about him and his spying on American citizens - no matter how he tries to frame it - are impeachable offenses. I believe that this president is not only spying on American citizens in the way that he's describing it, but to indicate in any shape form or fashion that he's been authorized by Congress to do it on the vote that was taken after 9-11 is plain dishonest. And further to try to imply that he's supported by the Constitution of the United States is even more dishonest. And so, I think that this issue that he's been caught red-handed on is really typical of who he is, how he handles this presidency, and what his leadership is all about: spying and lying. And I think it is important for us to understand that all of the other issues that we're going to talk about today - and particularly the war in Iraq - will continue to exemplify how he has lied and misled the American public."

Support Maxine Waters!

Despite the fact that Water's website claims she can only reply to CA constituents, I sincerely hope she receives our posts. For what it's worth, here's mine:

Representative Waters,

I need to thank you for being astute enough, and brave enough, to speak out on the impeachable offenses committed by President Bush and his insufferable cronies that are currently passing for an "Administration."

Some “widely asserted” and known highlights:

• The slandering of John McCain in the first Presidential primary, widely thought to be masterminded by Carl Rove.

• The questionable Florida election results, and the possible hi-jacking of the white house.

• The record number of vacation days taken by President Bush prior to 9/11.

• The chartered airline flights that miraculously flew hundreds of Bin Laden family members out of this country while all air travel was supposedly “grounded,” shortly after 9/11.

• The carefully coordinated media campaign to divert attention away from Saudi Arabia, where the vast majority of terrorists originated, and focus on Afghanistan – and far worse – Iraq.

• The increasingly known collusion between the Blair and Bush Administrations to “fix” the data to support invading Iraq.

• The complete and utter failure of the American Media to report anything near fair and balanced during the run-up to the Iraq invasion.

• The complete and utter ignorance of the Rumsfeld pentagon in underestimating the complexities and necessary resources of an Iraq occupation.

• The Administration’s, and the American media’s, nearly complete dismissal of upwards of 15,000 severely wounded Iraq veterans – let alone the untold thousands of dead and wounded Iraqi citizens.

• The clearly documented “no bid” contracts handed over to the likes of Halliburton, and the shameless war profiteering of firms like the Carlyle Group.

• The increasingly irresponsible, budget busting awards to the Pentagon, which has already admitted to “losing track” of One Trillion dollars worth of cash and assets prior to 9/11. The Pentagon has been rated an “F” for fiscal responsibility by the Government Accounting Office, and has repeatedly refused independent financial audits.

• The Orwellian details of the “Patriot Act,” and the known surveillance of perfectly peaceful anti-war groups here in America.

• The undeniable outing of an undercover CIA agent, Valeria Plame, who just so happens to be the wife of Ambassador Joseph Wilson, one of the few successful pre-Iraq War critics. It is inescapable that this outing was performed by Scooter Libby and Carl Rove, and likely included “tricky” Dick Cheney as well.

• The disastrous consequences of crony appointees to critical positions like the head of FEMA, and the entirely preventable New Orleans disaster – had any oil gluttons cared to believe in a little something now known as “global warming.”

• The entirely suspicious wiretapping campaign, information the New York Times “sat on,” long enough for Bush to win re-election.

I could go on. Indeed, the list seems endless. Every environmental donation plea I receive begins with: “Help us stop the Bush Administration from…” It is like watching a chilling version of The Emperor’s New Clothes,” and wondering if the naked king will ever be discovered. Like the McCarthy and Nixon eras, it is completely clear that the longer this cabal stays in power, the more difficult it will be to recover. It is simply staggering to me that our country has buried itself financially and politically at the hands of “born again,” holier than thou hypocrites who have attempted to serve wives with divorce papers while they are recovering from cancer (Newt Gingrich), and gambled away the proceeds of “Children’s Book of Virtues” (William Bennett).

Please keep up the fight to remove this malignant administration before the disease destroys us completely.

Sincerely,

Anthony Amenta

I would like to say this Representative Walters:
Honorable Representative Walters - thank you for speaking up regarding Bush's impeachable offenses. It takes courage to do this but this is what you (and all other peoples' representatives in government) were elected to do - protect the constitution and this country's citizens, represent the people, behave with integrity and honesty, and to speak up - unfortunately, too many people in office have forgotten this. Thank you for remembering and thank you for doing your job well. Why should it have to take courage to take the right stand or to speak up? Very telling . . . Please know that hundreds of thousands of American citizens will support you if you continue to address the most appropriate matter of impeachment of George W. Bush (and Dick Cheney!). Bless you.

Thank you Rep>Waters

Why has it taken so long for someone with some back bone to stand up in public and say what is on all our minds? I certainly hope this is the dam breaker. Good going Rep. Walters, buttonhole some more in your house to show some guts also. You are a refreshing voice in an otherwise stagnant void.

Posting this for a Dems.com subscriber

Hal Jamison, a Democrats.com subscriber, asked me to post this for him:

I am one of certainly thousands not living in the Golden State who would like to thank Waters. "Spying and lying": what better way to sum up the crimes of this man wearing a mantle which should be stripped from him! Yet many of Waters' colleagues in effect genuflected to this criminal the other night. We have had mediocre presidents certainly but, I believe, but none who
through either stupidity or evil guile have behaved in Hitlerian
fashion -- and none, fortunately, handed and excercising power and
resources exceeding by far what Hitler had. Yet Bush himself contributed not in the slightest way to the amassing of those powers and resources. Imagine: even Caesar, Napoleon, Hitler himself earned their way. Not Bush; it was handed to him by propagnada, deceit, fear, and that universal human tendency to look the other way when fearsome prospects appear. Hal Jamison

impeachment

New to the list, thank you for allowing me to make a few comments.

Dear Rep. Waters,
I just wanted to give you a personal thanks for putting the idea of impeachment out publically.

I appreciated your statement that Bush's domestic spying is indicative of who this president is, and what his administration is about. I too think that his actions have not just been detrimental to our country, but irresponsible, unethical, and bordering on criminal.

I am hopeful that with the mounting evidence that is slowly being revealed, citizens will be outraged by his lawless system of running our government. You have played a part in bringing this to our attention.

Thank you,
Katherine Schlender-Adams

Impeacmment

This subject has long been on my mind and I am finally and utterly glad that someone has had the backbone to come out and say what should have been said a long time ago. Now where is the rest of Congress who has any sense of what is happening? How much more are we as American people supposed to withstand the erosion of the Constitution and Bill of Rights right before our very eyes under the guise of this pitifull administration and the lies of not one man, but many? Is Orwell to be proven right? Are we to watch history repeat itself? Remember 1930's Germany when Hitler came to power. There is so much similarity. Well my friends it is not too far fetched. So why hasn't Congress spoken up or anyone else with a conscience?

Cannot anyone see that we are headed for an autocratic dictatorship or perhaps a fascist one when this man keeps taking a little more each time and being backed by the corporate power(corporatism). And how he twists his authoritative power around! Hasn't he gone far enough? And where oh where ARE the American people? Is everyone blind to what is happening around them? Are they all so snug in believing that it could never happen here? Think again because it can and it will if Bush, and Rove, and Rumsfled, and all the others think they can get away with it.

The Supreme Court is already stacked. Shouldn't that give anyone a clue? And the bringing together of church and state is yet another. Oh! Our poor founding Fathers!!! If Jefferson and all the rest who so valiantly fought and died fighting for a righteous cause against a tyrannical and opressive King (and the worlds first corporation) could only see us now. They would be horrified and be demanding of another revolution. I can guarantee it!

I am beside myself that Congress has not stood up to say "no more" and put a stop to this American tragedy. Are we to become puppets of this administration or like the children who followed the Pied Piper to their ultimate death? And what next will he do before the BIG take over? What will it take to convince the American people that what he is doing is the best in "our interest" to finally and totally give up our rights and freedoms? Why do THEY want control and what are THEY so terribly afraid of? And oh it is coming my fellow Americans unless "We,The People..." put a stop to it. This is not over yet and neither is this administration. I have seen the enemy, and he is us...

Rep. Waters

Hello, I have always admired you and now you have taken that admiration a step further. I am so proud of you, standing up for what you believe and speaking out! Now if the rest of the Reps. would do the same maybe we would get somewhere! This man [Bush] must be stopped at all costs. Enough of his lies and deception. Thank you Rep. Waters and keep up the GREAT work.
