The Strange Death of Bipartisanship

Until two weeks ago, every other sentence from the Pundits included the word "bipartisanship." Now, the word is never uttered. Isn't that a bit strange?
Of course the Pundits were only using "bipartisanship" as a club to try to force President Obama to capitulate to Republican demands. And Obama bent a bit by letting 3 Republicans whack billions out of the Recovery Act.
Obama bent, but he didn't buckle. This shocked the Pundits, who genuinely believed they could bend Obama to their will. They clearly weren't paying attention during the campaign when Joe Biden declared, "Barack Obama has a backbone of steel."
Because Obama stood firm, rightwingers went nuts. Rush Limbaugh declared "I hope [Obama] fails." Rick Santelli attacked Obama's plan to help struggling homeowners. Now Jim Cramer is blaming Obama for the Bush Bust.
Of course the polls show Americans want Obama to stand firm and Republicans to stop blocking him and start supporting him. That's what the American people mean by "bipartisanship" in this economic crisis - Republicans helping Democrats.
So why have Pundits stopped using the word? Is it because the only form of "bipartisanship" they understand is Democrats surrendering to Republicans, as they have done since the election of Ronald Reagan?
Memo to Pundits: Obama is the new FDR - get used to it.

To Republicans....
To Republicans bipartianship means our way or the highway. They act like a spoiled child that has always had there way until the parents finally learned to say no more.
when Bush was in charge
rightwinger Grover Norquist famously defined bipartisanship as "date rape" of Democrats.
Just a thought...
but maybe the Republicans who will be trying to get re-elected in 2010 will have to prove to their Corporate donators, that they will not, support any democratic attempt to help turn our country around, and get out of this mess that they themselves own a huge portion of the failures.
We already know that the Republican Party supports Corporate America, and the wealthy eletist. The American people don't register very high on their priority goals.
The more we democrats expose their lack of concern or support for we the people, maybe the public will began to realize more of what the Republican Party has done to destroy America's world wide reputation, and the disrespect for our Constitution.
absolutely right
we'll defeat a bunch more Rush Republicans in 2010.
they'd rather go down in a blaze of rightwing ideological glory than help a single real American.
