The Baptist v. The Mormon
Huckabee is being coy - he certainly knows enough about Mormonism to cite some of its wackier theological positions that will make Baptists gasp. Romney fired back by saying attacking his religion was "un-American." But arresting millions of "tired, poor, huddled masses, yearning to breathe free" and sending them back is "American"? And wasn't it just yesterday that Romney said he would not include any Muslims (like UN Ambassador Zalmay Khalizad) in his cabinet? The Grand Old Party - isn't it simply Grand? Here's a great spoof on Huckabee's message to Iowa:

Religion does not belong in politics
The founding fathers may well have all been christian but they made it very clear within our governmental documents that there was no place for it in politics. The only inclusion of it in government and society at all was regarding the laws of the land (based on the 10 commandments). The current jerk they call a president says that his god tells him what to do and look where that gets us. On the other side the terrorists are killing people in the name of their god. When are we going to get this religion stuff out of politics. The only time it is really (genuinely) used regarding politics anyway is when someone is trying to convince us something is right that in reality is a personal conviction and has nothing in the world to do with the one true creator. Why don't we look for someone who makes rational decisions based on facts based in the here and now on the ground according to what is actually needed for now and for our future. This country was founded on just such principles and our documents concur with that theory. Using religion when it is just based on one persons beliefs is a very dangerous road to travel as we can see very clearly.
If we take a look back in our history we might find that when we started making religion an issue in politics is when our political system began breaking down to the low level it is today(all money based with negative ad campaigns running rampant). Halleluya!
Uh...
...I think I would have known not to murder my neighbor even if I did not have a copy of the 10 commandants.
Ya think Jim? What about the Golden Plates...

PLEASE READ WHAT YOU WROTE:
Do you see a problem with those two statements!?

This is not the first time you've weaved extreme Right Wing arguments into your posts.
-Last time it had to do with workers being willing to take pay cuts.
-This time you're telling us the laws of our land are based on the 10 Commandments.
You have a way of feeding the far Right red meat.
------------------------------------------------------
Please consider the following:
Our laws are based on common sensibilities. Most dealing with "self" preservation. Self in this case referring to the larger structure of civilization itself. E.G. One does not have time to sow the fields if one's neighbor is murdering one's spouse, stealing one's plow, etc. These sensibilities have been recorded in MANY books AND exist innately in either individuals or larger structures (read: sustainable cultures).
Both the above, and allusions to the BROAD philosophies of the Framers, would be a far more accurate way to frame the motivation for our Laws. (Implicit in the later is the influence of the 10 Commandments for SOME, and in that context, an explicit analysis of their influence would be appropriate - read: accurate).
The aliens are illegal
amnd here to ruin labor, not just for freedom. If we weren't trashign their poor and ours with NAFTA, they could live at home and we could have more higher paying jobs.
Huckabee is trying to be inclusive by not answering-like bearing false witness by being silent when sayings that could make you get into trouble come up. Says more by his feigned ignorace than anything else. It would be nice to have a religious person run without using that as their center plank in their platform.
Hillary goes to church frequently. notice she doesn't rub people's noses in it and works with everyone, without giving up on Jesus?
You forget one or two things Basil...
we are not now, and never have been a christian country. There is no place in the political spectrum for the inclusion of religion--in any form.
I'll give you two sources:
The Treaty Of Tripoli(1795-97)
Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists.
We are free in this country, one of the few places on earth where people are free, to practice our own religion without hindrance and to abstain from religion as we are so moved.
