Lisa Murkowski's decision to run a write-in campaign to keep her Senate seat throws the race into turmoil. And the big question is: will she take enough votes from Republican Joe Miller to give Scott McAdams (D) the seat?

We've seen 3-way races elect Democrats in Alaska before. In 2008, Mark Begich (D) won with 48%-47% against Ted Stevens (R), thanks to Bob Bird (I) taking 4%.

This recent PPP poll (8/28) offers a clue about Murkowski's impact on the race:

Contract from America Outpaced and Exposed

More candidates for Congress have signed a statement opposing war spending that have signed the tea party statement against all spending.  And there is no overlap between the two lists of candidates.  Clearly the opponents of government spending who receive the most media attention do not oppose the single biggest type of government spending.  Why would that be?  They have been exposed as severely limited in their fiscal responsibility, and their cheerleaders in the media have been exposed as biased in favor of war.  But the teabaggers have also been outpaced, as their roster of candidates is smaller than that of the Coalition Against War Spending.

Just got this from the Tasini campaign:

Jonathan Tasini, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 15th Congressional District in New York, released this statement regarding the results of the May 26th endorsement vote at the Three Parks Political Club.

Last night, voters at a key political club in the 15th Congressional District confirmed what I have heard from voters in the streets, at subway stops and in one-on-one discussion: the people of the 15th Congressional District are ready for a new voice.

I have been in the race for the 15th Congressional District for less than three weeks. Yet, last night, I forced a 40-year incumbent into three rounds of balloting for the endorsement of the Three Parks Independent Democratic Club, and nearly defeated my opponent.

Anna Janek is a Republican candidate for Congress from West Bloomfield, Mich. She says: "Socialism, Communism, Welfare-ism, Globalism, Fascism, Obama-ism…it's all the same: State control of the Human Spirit under the guise of benevolence."

Marcy Winograd is a Democratic candidate for Congress from Los Angeles, Calif. She promises to "establish a new federal agency to employ millions of Americans building rapid transit and repairing bridges, ports, water treatment plants and other infrastructure."

What could Janek and Winograd possibly agree on?

Winograd on healthcare, says: "We need Medicare for All – or a single-payer system that pays doctors, nurses, and other health care providers from a single fund."

Fifty-two congressional candidates and 18 activist organizations are opposing any more funding for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and inviting more candidates, incumbents, and organizations to join them.  The 52 candidates, from 21 different states, include 19 Democrats, 16 Libertarians, 15 Greens, 2 Independents, and 0 Republicans (and more may be added to the website by the time you read this).  Forty-six are candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, and six for the Senate.

They do not all agree with each other on many topics, including their reasons for opposing war spending.  But they all back this short statement:

I Won't Vote for You If You Vote to Escalate War

Congress is about to consider whether to vote for another $33 billion, not to continue but purely to escalate the level of war in Afghanistan by sending more troops and contractors. A No vote needs to be rewarded, and a Yes vote punished. So I am committing to vote for the reelection of any incumbent who votes No and against any who votes Yes. Facing reality is a tough job but somebody's got to do it. And we foretell for you the events of the future NOT because we want them to happen, but to get you to act to keep them from happening. But to do that you need an action page, so here it is.

Put The Public Option Up For A Vote: www.peaceteam.net/action/pnum1038.php

And now we will explain why this action page is so critical. To understand the current political dynamic, first you must understand that the Democrats are PLANNING on losing the next couple election cycles. UNTIL you understand that, the events to unfold in the next couple years (unless you act to derail them) will make no sense to you.
