Impeach Sarah Palin for Tax Evasion

Timothy Geithner was nearly blocked from serving as Treasury Secretary because of his failure to pay taxes. Tom Daschle was blocked from serving as HHS Secretary.

If tax evasion is grounds for disqualifying a Cabinet official, isn't it also grounds for impeaching a sitting Governor like Sarah Palin?

Gov. Sarah Palin must pay income taxes on thousands of dollars in expense money she received while living at her Wasilla home, under a new determination by state officials.

The governor's office wouldn't say this week how much she owes in back taxes for meal money, or whether she intends to continue to receive the per diem allowance. As of December, she was still charging the state for meals and incidentals.

In 1984, the Democratic VP was a charismatic young woman who made history, turned out huge audiences, and fired up the party base. Unfortunately she had some controversies during the campaign which ended up costing her party a point or two.

When her party lost, did the Corporate Media annoint Geraldine Ferraro as the savior of her party, worthy of endless TV coverage? Absolutely not. She was immediately made into a non-person. She lost a subsequent campaign for U.S. Senate and faded into obscurity as an occasional guest on FOX News.

So why is Sarah Palin being treated as a conquering heroine?

Obviously she has nothing intelligent to say about the nation's problems, which are overwhelming. If she did, she would have said them on the campaign trail.

She doesn't even look great because she had to give back her fabulous Neiman-Marcus clothes.

Is it because the Corporate Media is terrified to interview the real leaders of the Republican Party - George Bush, Dick Cheney, Mitch McConnell, and John Boehner - for fear the American people would tar, feather, and drag them through the streets for the damage they've done to our country?

Update 1: There's one question the Corporate Media refuses to ask Palin. Does she acknowledge her baseless accusations that Obama was "palling around with terrorists" produced a dramatic increase in the number of death threats against Barack Obama? Does she take responsibility for the consequences of her accusations? Will she condemn those who threatened violence against Obama because of her lies?

The results: The voters who found her to be qualified to be president were Republicans (74%), from the South (45%), and from rural areas (45%). She greatly underperformed among college grads (35%), independents (35%), and in the suburbs (40%).

Palin Did Not Know Africa Is a Continent

If Republicans were hoping Sarah Palin would lead them out of the wilderness, Carl Cameron just nuked that idea by revealing Palin didn't know Africa was a continent.

We're told that she didn't understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a country just in itself.

Even Shepard Smith was shocked and asked how on earth she could have gotten past the vetting process.

How could they end up with a running mate who doesn't know that Africa is a continent and they don't know the level of problems that they're getting themselves into in advance. I mean what happened with the vetting process?

Perhaps all Republican candidates should be required to take a basic test with questions like:

Is the earth flat or round?
Does the earth revolve around the sun or vice versa?
What is the moon made of?
Were there dinosaurs on Noah's Ark?
Where do babies come from?

Last night, Rachel Maddow made fun of Kit Bond's attack on "the gay," but no one has demanded an apology from McCain-Palin for Bond's attack on people with disabilities.

Disability Rights Organizations Express Outrage Over Attacks at McCain-Palin Rally

(Washington, DC) The National Coalition for Disability Rights (NCDR) pushed back today against the McCain-Palin campaign for ridiculing the legal rights of people with disabilities. News reports describe McCain-Palin campaign representative Senator Kit Bond (R-Mo), joining Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin at a rally in Rush Limbaugh's hometown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, mocking Presidential candidate Senator Barak Obama for stating that he's looking to nominate judges who empathize with "the disabled."

"It's Halloween and it seems that Sarah Palin's mask of support for people with "special needs" is slipping. Despite past pandering to people with disabilities, McCain-Palin are actually opposed to vital disability legislation like the Community Choice Act and they want to appoint judges who will further roll back the civil rights protections of the Americans with Disabilities Act," declared NCDR's founder and president, Jim Ward.

NPR's Nina Totenberg has reported that McCain-Palin's and conservatives' "most oft-mentioned prospects" for nomination to the Supreme Court include Ohio Judge Jeffrey Sutton. Sutton was opposed by hundreds of disability organizations when he was nominated by President Bush after successfully weakening the ADA with states' rights arguments. As a sitting judge, he has recently supported the execution of criminals with developmental disabilities and has undermined the Help America Vote Act(HAVA).

Disability rights advocates are further incensed that the McCain-Palin campaign has reframed this civil rights struggle, one founded in concepts of equality, dignity and self-respect, as an issue of "special needs."

Disability rights advocate, Steve Gold states, "Yes we need support services. Yes we need inclusive education. Yes we need integrated employment. Yes we need equal rights. This not "special". These needs are based on us, people with disabilities, equal members of our communities. We are not inspirational nor are we "special". We are PROUD PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES who should push back when anyone describes us as anything but equal members of our communities."

The National Coalition for Disability Rights is a nonpartisan nonprofit that does not endorse political candidates. We are a coalition of national, state and local disability, civil rights and social justice organizations united to protect and promote the human rights of children and adults with physical and mental disabilities.

Fred Barnes Blames Nicole Wallace for Wardrobegate

I was flipping cable channels last night around 6:45 p.m. ET and really had to laugh. On MSNBC, Sarah Palin aide Nicole Wallace was selling McCain-Palin kool-aid. But when I flipped to FOX, Fred Barnes was burying a knife deep into Wallace's back, claiming she was responsible for buying Palin's $150,000 wardrobe and demanding she take responsibility for it.

Barnes was really angry, and for two good reasons. Politically, Palin will forever be remembered for her wardrobe, and her chances of becoming a serious national leader - and raising the GOP from its post-election grave - are nil. And on a personal note, Barnes's mad love for Palin will remain unrequited. Watch:

As watertiger points out, Palin blames the RNC for sending her clothes she didn't ask for, while RNC chair Mike Duncan blames Team McCain for buying the clothes and sending him the bill. Barnes is right: when will Nicole Wallace step forward and take responsibility?

Update 1: Wallace denied the accusation in an email to Ben Smith:

Wallace fired back in an email to me that Barnes is "incorrect" that she charged the clothes to her card, and "incorrect that I went to any stores."
Public records suggested that another Republican operative, Jeff Larson, paid for the clothes.
"The campaign has made no secret of the fact that it purchased clothes and made them available to Sarah and Todd Palin and their five children for campaign events during the convention. The campaign has also made clear that one third of the items were returned," she said. "I will not engage in a blame game-if folks are determined to lay this at my feet, I accept that from fred barnes or your unnamed sources or anyone else, and hope we can move on and discuss the big choices in this election."

Don't Poke the Barracuda

McCain's advisors are making a big mistake going after Palin privately with attacks like this:

“She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone,” said this McCain adviser, “she does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else. Also she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: divas trust only unto themselves as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.”

As Kevin Drum notes, Sarah Barracuda will get her revenge, sooner rather than later:

And you know the part I'm really looking forward to? Sarah Palin's role in all this. I expect her to rip McCain absolutely to shreds. On background, of course, but it will be no less vicious for that. Her future, such as it is, lies with the wingnut rump of the party, and she knows what her audience wants: John McCain's blood. And lots of it. They never liked him in the first place, and I expect them to be howling for his head on a platter starting at about 8:01 pm EST on November 4th.
