Co-produced with the National Wildlife Federation, and featuring Stanford climate scientist Stephen Schneider, sustainable business consultant Hunter Lovins, and other guests, the focus will be on global warming solutions. DC: Climate Emergency Action & Rally

Dear Activists for the Earth,

We are writing to invite you, to urge you, to participate in two important actions being planned for the morning of Sept. 27th and noontime on Sept. 28th in Washington, D.C.

Here's the scoop: In an unprecedented and clearly manipulative move, George Bush is inviting top leaders from around the world to Washington, D.C. September 27-28th to officially convey his "deep concern" about global warming. His proposed fix: more useless "voluntary" measures and huge subsidies for "clean coal" and nuclear energy. The event is clearly meant to undermine real international efforts now underway to achieve stronger, mandatory greenhouse gas cuts under the Kyoto process, and we will be there to have our voices heard in protest.

On Thursday morning, just before the conference begins, scores of us will be joining together to engage in an act of nonviolent civil disobedience.

NC, Asheville: Southeast Convergence for Climate Action

The Southeast Convergence for Climate Action, near Asheville, North Carolina, will bring together activists across the region who are fighting mountaintop removal mining and coal and nuclear power plants. Mountaintop removal coal mining is currently devastating the ecologically diverse southern Appalachian Mountains. The coal companies have literally flattened hundreds of square miles of mountains, destroyed thousands of miles of our life giving streams, and terrorized countless communities in the process. Meanwhile southern utility companies are planning a blitzkrieg of new dirty coal plants, despite our regions already dismal air quality. To add insult to injury these same utility companies are using climate change as a justification for building a new fleet of dangerous nuclear reactors.
