Primary Against Steny Hoyer (MD-5)

On 5/10/07, Rep. Steny Hoyer betrayed the voters and troops of Maryland's 5th Congressional District by voting to continue George Bush's disastrous Iraq War forever.

Democrats.com is looking for an "aggressive progressive" Democrat who will challenge Hoyer in a Democratic primary in 2008.

Read our Candidate Guide.

If you are interested in running against Hoyer, or know a good candidate who could run against Hoyer, post a comment below.

MD, College Park: David Alan Harris Speaking on Peace-Building Lessons from African Child Soldiers Oct. 14, U of MD

If, as Alice Walker reminds us in her new book, “hard times require furious dancing”, David Alan Harris knows the hard times and the furious dancing. For the young men and boys he encountered in Sierra Leone, he provided warmth and the container for fury, through a process called Dance/Movement Therapy.

Harris will share stories of the boys he worked with in a keynote address as a part of the University of Maryland’s Semester on Peace:

Atrocities, Resilience, and Healing:
Peace-Building Lessons from African Child Soldiers

Join him as he inspires us all to dance with each other, and join us afterwards at the UMUC Marriott Inn and Conference Center to put all of our energy to music, in a celebration of resilience and healing!

MD, Baltimore: Agenda for a New Economy - Video and Discussion

Agenda for a New Economy Video and Discussion - Mon Apr 13, 7:30 pm

David Korten discusses how pouring money back into the "phantom wealth" of Wall Street will not heal all our economic woes. The "new economy" he envisions is locally based, community oriented, and devoted to a better life for all - not simply increasing the profits of the rich. It is a compelling agenda for our time, as we question how we should change the direction of our country.

After the video we'll focus on our varied and personal responses as progressives and ethical persons living in the midst of changes which are affecting many of us directly and certainly our world society as a whole.

Korten's two prior books are considered classics for sustainable economics: "The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community" published in 2006 and "When Corporations Rule the World" in 2001.

Iraq War, Leave Now

Gary Hamilton

12304 Burning Oak Court

Waldorf, MD  20601

 Dear Congressional Leaders:

We’re appalled by the costs, both financial and medical, of this on-going disastrous war.

We’re even more appalled that Congress keeps signing blank checks, while the pundits proclaim that the Iraq War is no longer a leading concern of Americans; finances are.

Of course the reality is that much of the financial debacle facing both the country and individuals stems directly from the obscene costs of this war.
