May Day

(posted April 25, 2008 8:03PM EST)

Hello.

Who would like to visit Peter Welch's home office in Burlington next Thursday noon?  This is being organized to coincide with strikes by the ILWU, the Teamsters, Postal Workers, plus immigrant rights rallies, and peace and impeachment activities as part of May Day, a national day of resistance.  It's also the anniversary of "Mission Accomplished"

For my part I'm not so sure about big protest demonstrations, but this is a host of local ones.  Protests (visits) are being organized at the offices of all congressional representatives.

I'm in Brattleboro, and will probably be carpooling.  I'll try to help with connections  from anywhere around Vermont.

P.P.S.: Have you called a stranger about this terrible situation?  ( I ask all the time . )

Vermont's Governor's race

This is a challenging time in Vermont and American history. Changes in political leadership are needed to restore peace and opportunity. Montpelier needs a positive change of leadership in the Statehouse. Since Governor Douglas took office, Vermont has lost hundreds of manufacturing jobs. Only the service sector is experiencing job growth, a poor prospect for Vermont's economic future.

Governor Douglas is well-known in political circles. Candidate Scudder Parker isn't as well-known, but he is an experienced civic leader with a good track record on the environment, energy, and the economy. He is also a Democrat. In this era of failure after failure by our Republican leadership, we need a substantive change in leadership to bring responsiblity and accountibility back to government at all levels.
