End: 09/19/2008 - 10:00pm

Maryland's own Democratic protest singer, Yikes McGee has spent the last 5 years writing anti-Bush, anti-rightwing, political protest songs, and performing them in D.C, at rallies and demonstrations, and building a national radio audience. A standing-room-only January show at Mad City was a great success and lots of fun. Join Yikes as he begins to finally close the door on the long Bush years.

End: 07/26/2008 - 3:00pm

This is a bi-weekly peace stand that is sponsored by the Westminster Women in Black.

This stand has been going on for six (6) long years and the participants are against the war in Iraq and any future wars being started by the current adminostration.

During the protest, we must adhere to specific City of Westminster cods for demonstration.

We must stand at least 10 feet apart

We must stand as close to the curb as possible to avoid blocking pedestrian traffic.

We may not block any crosswalks

However we are able to hand out materials to people that wish to receive such documentation, but we may not enter the roadway to give the material to motor vehicle operators.

If you would like to join us and would like some more information about this stand. Please contact me at brad.brown@carrollcountyprogressives.com and I will get back to you just as soon as possible.

You may also visit www.carrollcountyprogressives.com for information that will be noted there as well.

Group plans 'Honk to Impeach Bush, Cheney' demonstration

Carroll County Times - July 26, 2007 - By Heather Cobun

http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/articles/2007/07/26/news/local_news/newsstory5.txt

Group plans 'Honk to Impeach Bush, Cheney' demonstration

A group is planning a demonstration in downtown Westminster Saturday to oppose President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Brad Brown, a Westminster resident, said he expects 50 to 100 people to turn out Saturday to hold signs at intersections that read, "Honk to Impeach Bush and Cheney."

Brown said the demonstration will be peaceful, and he has applied for a demonstration permit with the city.

Brown said he began planning the demonstration Monday night when he learned of the arrest of war protester Cindy Sheehan and more than 40 other demonstrators outside the office of Rep. John Coyners, D-Michigan.

Sheehan had met with Coyners to urge him to begin impeachment efforts in the House Judiciary Committee.

The "Honk to Impeach" campaign is a product of democrats.com.

Voting machines

Maryland faces two choices this session. Purchasing new touch screens with printers added, or purchasing optical scan machines to count voter filled out paper ballots.
The touch screen (at 5 to 8 times the cost) machines
produce continuous rolls of thermally-printed paper. They are difficult to
load, difficult to handle after they are removed from the machines and
extremely difficult to read and tally. They bear almost no relationship to
the ordinary individual paper ballots of the past.

All of us need to understand this distinction, because there's a strong
likelihood that the State Administrator of Elections (probably supported by
the Governor's transition elections team, which is chaired by an outspoken
DRE advocate,) will try to "compromise" with the verified voting community
in Maryland by suggesting that we trade in our present, printerless Diebold
DRE machines for Diebold TSx DRE machines. These DRE machines do offer a
printed record, just not one that anyone can use effectively for the reasons
stated above. Moreover, this "compromise" would still leave the Diebold
company and its secret computer programs as the primary vote-counter. In
other words, we would still be in the position of having outsourced our
elections to a private company. Hand-count audits of randomly-selected
precincts would be nearly impossible with these "adding-machine" continuous
rolls of paper.

So we must urge our legislators to approve only voter-marked, individual paper ballots, optically-scanned in each precinct;
and mandatory randomly-selected, hand-counted precinct audits. DREs with
thermal-paper adding-machine rolls (that most voters will simply ignore)
don't begin to fill the bill and must be resisted.

It is up to us to contact our legislators in Annapolis. The moment to do that is now. Remember that 2008 could see a "surprising" turn to Republicans if we do not get rid of machines that do the actual voting for us. We need to do the actual voting ourselves.

Is Bob Ehrlich running to be mayor of Baltimore?

Governor Bob Ehrlich has been mainly an obstructionist Governor. The only real progress in the State of Maryland has been push through by the Democratic Legislature. In the O'Malley versus Ehrlich debates, Ehrlich could point to no accompolishments he initiated as Governor. Ehrlich focused on attacking Baltimore MD as if it was a part of another country. You would have thought he was running for the position of Mayor of Baltimore. His whole negative line of attack on the people living in Baltimore was disgusting. He may have thought that he was hurting O'Malley but he was only hurt himself by showing that he had nothing to offer Maryland voters but partisan criticism on difficult issues that require more innovative and effective solutions.
