Breaking! Rightwing Publisher Sucks Obama Accuser's Dick

My headline, of course, is metaphorical.

The publisher in question is Joseph Farah, founder of WorldNetDaily.com, which shares the bottom of the rightwing "news" chain with Matt Drudge's Drudgereport.com. For guys like Farah and Drudge, no baldfaced rightwing lie about a Democrat is too false or sleazy to publish. And once they publish such lies, they get promoted by more "credible" outlets like Rupert Murdoch's New York Post, FOX News, and Wall Street Journal, and are then embraced on MSNBC by Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan, who together did more to promote the Swift Boat Liars than anyone on TV.

That's exactly why rightwing billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife has funded much of Farah's career - the same man who funded the Arkansas Project to manufacture and distribute baldfaced lies about Bill Clinton, which ultimately led to his impeachment by Newt Gingrich's Republican Revolutionaries.

Farah's dismal record as a "journalist" is a hoot, as Wikipedia details:

In 1990, he bought the Sacramento Union from Scaife and managed to turn an already rightwing paper "in a more conservative direction." "After 15 months as editor of the Union, Farah stepped down, in part from the 30 percent decline of the paper's circulation." Ouch.
In 1994, Farah wrote "See, I Told You So" with Rush Limbaugh.
In 1997, Farah "co-founded the Western Journalism Center, which supplied Christopher W. Ruddy (founder of NewsMax) with "additional expense money, funding for Freedom of Information Act requests, legal support and publicity during his" investigation of a Clinton conspiracy surrounding the suicide of Vince Foster. In the 1994-95 course of the Center Scaife-connected foundations gave $330,000 in donations to the group."
In May 1997, "Farah set his eyes on the internet and set up WorldNetDaily (WND) as a project of the Center. In 1999, WorldNetDaily.com, Inc., with offices in Cave Junction, Ore. was incorporated in Delaware as a for-profit subsidiary of the non-profit Western Journalism Center with the backing of $4.5 million from investors." Perhaps one of those investors has the initials RMS?
In 2003, Farah took over Oliver North's radio show. Three years later, Farah gave up the show to spend more time with his family, which apparently was the only group still listening to his show.
In September 2007, Farah moderated the "Values Voter Presidential Debate" in Ft. Lauderdale which featured all the rightwing nuts: Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo, Sam Brownback, Ron Paul and John Cox (who?). But the event was too toxic for mainstream Republicans Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Fred Thompson.

All of which sets the stage for Farah's latest "contribution" to "journalism": the first published story about Larry Sinclair, the sleazebag liar who claims without a scintilla of evidence that he did coke and oral sex with State Senator Barack Obama in the back of Sinclair's limo in 1999.

Sinclair first posted his fantasy on Youtube on January 18, and it has ricocheted around rightwing websites and emails ever since. On February 14, Sinclair filed a "lawsuit" against Obama, his consultant David Axelrod, and the Democratic National Committee.

Defendants have and continue to conspire against the rights of citizens in that they are actively engaged in ongoing internet intimidation, claiming to be engaging in the conduction of illegal investigations into plaintiffs personal life, and actively involved in preventing allegations brought of illegal drug use and sexual activity involving Defendant Obama from becoming public knowledge.

If you can follow the workings of this fevered brain you're a whole lot smarter than I am, but I'm sure the "loyal Bushies" in the Justice Department will file a friend-of-the-court brief by the end of the week, and Justice Clarence "Pubic Hair" Thomas will award Sinclair billions in damages.

Naturally Farah has no problem with these paranoid ramblings, and published them as though Moses carried them down from Mount Sinai.

Apparently what made Sinclair's delusions newsworthy for Farah was an offer of $10,000 for a lie detector test by another "high-quality" publisher, Dan Parisi of WhiteHouse.com. Wikipedia says Parisi made $1 million per year by turning the popular domain (especially among students) into a disgusting porn site, until his own son was old enough for kindergarten. Parisi offered the cash to Sinclair on Friday (with a promise of another $90,000 if Sinclair passed the test), and on Sunday Sinclair accepted the offer.

After communicating via email to work out the logistics of the challenge, we were able to reach an agreement. Now, the plan is to get together with Sinclair and one of the best polygraph experts in the country, and ask him some questions – with the camera rolling, of course. As more details are made available we will post it here.

The results of the whole thing will be posted right here on Whitehouse.com. Our pockets lighter by either ten grand or ten times that amount, we'll all have a better sense of what to make of Sinclair's almost-too-unbelievable-to-be-unbelievable allegations against a Senator who is poised, perhaps, to make history.

Mr Sinclair has put up instead of shutting up so we will see which way the chips fall.

Of course, polygraphs are about as credible as WorldNetDaily and WhiteHouse.com. According to Wikipedia, "A 1997 survey of 421 psychologists estimated the test's average accuracy at about 61%, a little better than chance."

Although defense attorneys often attempt to have the results of friendly CQTs admitted as evidence in court, there is no evidence supporting their validity and ample reason to doubt it. Members of scientific organizations who have the requisite background to evaluate the CQT are overwhelmingly skeptical of the claims made by polygraph proponents." Polygraph tests have also been criticized for failing to trap known spies such as double-agent Aldrich Ames, who passed two polygraph tests while spying for the Soviet Union. Other spies who passed the polygraph include Karl Koecher, Ana Belen Montes, and Leandro Aragoncillo. Noted pseudoscience debunker Bob Park recently commented, "The polygraph, in fact, has ruined careers, but never uncovered a single spy."

But if Sinclair "passes" Parisi's polygraph, we can be sure that it will be all over Drudge, FOX, and MSNBC within seconds.

I received my first e-mail blast claiming Barack Obama is both a radical Muslim and a radical Christain.

This widely distributed E-mail blast has been debunked and discredited by, Newsweek http://www.newsweek.com/id/91424 , NBC MSN, the Urban Legends website, and many other reputable organizations. It is a smear that attempts to claim that Obama is a radical Muslim and a radical Christen at the same time. Both claims can not be right, although both could be and are untrue.

It is unclear as to who or where this has originated. Some have pointed the finger at the Clinton campaign, others at right-wing attempts to :"Swift-Boat," Obama by telling outrageous lies.

"Thou shall not bear false witness against they neighbor." -GOD-

Alltel features Pentagram-earring TV spot
Cell-phone company has long, controversial history

Cell-phone carrier Alltel is raising eyebrows with a TV spot featuring a woman wearing large earrings in the shape of a Pentagram, the symbol of Satanism and other occult beliefs and practices.

Alltel, an Arkansas-based company, has long ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton and the Little Rock Rose Law Firm and has been shrouded in mystery and intrigue since its inception.

Previously, the company was called Systematics and was owned by Jackson Stephens, the billionaire partner of Chinese agent Mochtar Riady of the infamous Lippo Group.

In November 1999, the FBI confirmed to WND in response to a Freedom of Information Act request that there were "law enforcement" investigations involving the Arkansas Rose office law firm, former employer of Hillary Clinton, and its relationship with Alltel.

According to FBI Section Chief John M. Kelso, the bureau could not release the records because they had been compiled for "law enforcement purposes" and "could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings."

The relationship between the Clintons and Systematics dates back to the mid-1980s when the man who would become chief executive officer, William Cravens, was working for the Worthen Bank, also owned by Riady and Stephens. Mrs. Clinton and her Rose law partners, Vincent Foster and Webster Hubbell, worked on Worthen legal contracts.

Later, Cravens left Worthen and took the top position at Systematics and brought its legal work to the Rose law firm. Systematics would go on to develop the secret computer "Clipper" chip capable of bugging every phone, fax and e-mail transmission in America.

Cravens was succeeded by Charles Wilbourne Miller, who became the CEO of Alltel. On Nov. 17, 1998, Miller, 63, was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head in a shallow pit about 300 yards from his ranch house near Little Rock.

Police found a .410 shotgun near Miller's body and a Ruger .357-caliber revolver submerged in water. Investigators concluded the Ruger was the weapon used by Miller to kill himself. Yet, two rounds in the handgun's cylinder had been spent. Even though two weapons were found at the scene and two rounds from the Ruger had been fired, Miller's death was ruled a suicide.

There was one other high-profile "suicide" among the inner circle involved with the "Clipper" chip project – Foster, who attended critical National Security Agency planning meetings on the Clipper chip project, along with then-Associate Attorney General Hubbell, Attorney General Janet Reno and then-White House Counsel Bernard Nussbaum, the man who cleaned out Foster's office after his death.

How big and how sensitive was the Clipper chip project? According to a 1996 report to Vice President Al Gore by former CIA Director John Deutch, Reno proposed an all-out federal takeover of the computer industry. The Justice Department proposed legislation that would ban the import and domestic manufacture, sale or distribution of encryption that did not have key recovery.

Prime targets for monitoring were to be foreign governments, banks, corporations, and individuals opposing the Clinton administration. The keys were to be held by "key recovery agents" licensed by the Commerce Department. Key recovery is a government back-door system designed to monitor computers secretly.

So for the conspiracy-minded, is it merely a coincidence that this story appeared just after Karl Rove left the White House and began attacking Hillary on TV?

Now that Rove is liberated from his tedious White House responsibility for manufacturing conspiratorial character assassination campaigns against foreign leaders, he can go back to his one true love - conspiratorial character assassination campaigns against the Clintons! Why it's 1998 all over again!

So the only question with Rove's new anti-Clinton campaign is whether Republicans are really afraid of Hillary and want to destroy her now, or whether this is a gigantic head-fake to encourage Democrats to vote for Hillary now so Rove can destroy her later.

Hillary says we should vote for her because she knows how to beat the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. OK Hillary, prove it - starting now!

Update 1: Terry K. at ConWebWatch rebuts the lie at the center of WND's conspiracy theory:

It asserts that Alltel "was called Systematics"; in fact, Alltel was founded as Allied Telephone in 1943, changed its name to Alltel in 1983, and purchased Systematics in 1990. The article further claims that "Systematics would go on to develop the secret computer 'Clipper' chip capable of bugging every phone, fax and e-mail transmission in America." That's highly unlikely, since Systematics, as described in a 1990 Alltel press release announcing the company's acquisition, was "the leading provider of data processing management, services and advanced applications software exclusively for banks, savings institutions, mortgage companies and credit unions." Given that the company's expertise is in financial services, it's doubtful that it would be terribly involved in "develop[ing]" black-ops spy chips; its role, if there was one at all, was likely minor at best, probably limited to information-gathering (the bulk of Systematics' business was performing back-room processing for banks). Systematics was renamed Alltel Information Services in 1995; Alltel sold the company in 2003.

This is a little factually dubious conspiracy WND has been peddling for years; Joseph Farah was spouting the same stuff in a February 2000 column. A November 1999 WND column by Charles Smith spoke in similarly conspiratorial terms about Systematics.

Of course if WND was truly interested in government spying on Americans, they would be all over George Bush and Dick Cheney for illegally capturing every email and phone call by Americans and putting it into a massive NSA database. What's that I hear? Crickets?

For an administration in which utter smirking defiance of law and the will of the American people is the only operational mode, IMPEACHMENT is the only remedy.

How bad can it possibly get before Congress will act? In explosive testimony this week before the Senate, the former number two official in the Justice apartment, James B. Comey, testified that Alberto Gonzales tried to bully a deathly sick John D. Ashcroft into signing off on a secret and massive domestic wiretap scheme which had already been determined to be profoundly illegal. Even the Washington Post was compelled to editorialize on Wednesday as follows:

"the straight-as-an-arrow former No. 2 official at the Justice Department, yesterday offered the Senate Judiciary Committee an account of Bush administration lawlessness so shocking it would have been unbelievable coming from a less reputable source."

And if that were not bad enough, Gonzales had previously testified UNDER OATH, that there had been no disagreements in the department about implementation of the program. So he just bald-faced lied and perjured himself again, and again, and again. And he's still doing it.

The situation is so bad that 56 members of Alberto's Harvard Law school graduating class took out an ad also in the Post excoriating him for his outlaw abuse of power. The Harvard Crimson further reports that there was NO dissent whatsoever in this from members of that class, even among those who for professional reasons could not sign on publicly.

So what is the response of Congress? Some Democrats today proposed a no confidence vote. What exactly is that supposed to accomplish? How many times have you heard Bush say, "Well, he has my confidence", in the face of dramatically manifest incompetence and malfeasance by his appointed cronies? When is Congress going to confront the fact that we are dealing with a Constitutionally criminal organization in the White House from top to bottom?

When will Congress stop being a damn debating society and exercise the POWER we gave them in November.? What part of exercising power don't they get?

Look at the side show going on right now about another Bush gang member, Wolfowitz, who has long outstayed his welcome the World Bank, and still will not give up power until they pry it out of his fingers. It was actually reported yesterday that Wolfowitz was demanding that the bank accept culpability for some part of his wrongdoing as a condition of stepping down. Isn't that just a little like a bank robber demanding that a bank share guilt for making itself too easy to rob?

We'll frankly be surprised if Bush doesn't demand for Gonzales a seat on the Supreme Court as part of his severance package.

Guest Commentary: Not Your Father's Party

Do you think you couldn't possibly have anything in common with a Republican, a former Reagan White House counsel? Then read on:

When I began asking questions about what I saw going on at Colorado Springs in 2004 I never expected that the inquiry would lead me to the horrifying conclusion that our country had been taken over by people who have used our own freedoms to enslave us. But that is what happened. When I began I, like most people, was focused on the personal. I believed that what was happening at the United States Air Force Academy, the harassment of cadets and staff with unwanted evangelism, was limited in scope. As the months passed, however, I found myself forced to constantly reassess my basic assumptions. The logic of events was stark and undeniable. Promises of an open inquiry were ignored; decent and courageous people like former Air Force Chaplin MeLinda Morton were intentionally muzzled to ensure the truth would not be heard and the wrongs righted.

As a Republican and an Academy graduate I find myself in head on conflict with my own oath to protect the Constitution. As a Jew I confronted a situation through ears that still hear the cries of my people walking silently into the brick buildings that would reduce them to ash. I cannot stand still and let that happen to my country.

You know about the law suit we filed; that suit took on the issue directly, based on the 1st Amendment Right of members of the military to choose their own spiritual paths, unhampered by those placed in positions of authority and on the basis of the Establishment Clause and Clause Three of Article Six, which prohibit the existence of a national religion. That is what has happened. America now has a national religion whose tenets extend to a foreign policy that sees war in the Middle East as the fulfillment of its core mission. The power block responsible for the take over are now, effectively, in charge of the mightiest weapon the world has ever known, the United States Military.

My law suit was one element in the larger battle to take back America . That might seem excessive or alarmist; I only wish that was the case.

I undertook this campaign to oppose those who were violating the principle of separation of Church and State head on and to make the public aware. I now understand that to undo the damage done Americans must come together to organize the dispersed elements opposing these forces that have gone so far in converting America into a theocracy that substitutes one parochial world view of the Bible as law, displacing the democratic foundation of our nationhood.

Every American should be awake to the real and present threat that the take over of America's military poses to our national security and to each of us personally. America is poised today on the brink of a disaster of global proportions. This situation has been moving towards its own logical conclusion while nearly all of us overlooked the clear and present danger signs posed by the coalition of unlikely forces who have come together in a voracious grab for power. Even those of us who have understood some parts of the larger problem have failed to see the connections. That is the past. Today we need to take action.

Those who have carried out this stealth operation, an imperious fascistic contagion growing for the last 30 years, have an agenda. That agenda demanded their patience. They have been. We must not be patient as we fight back. We must act now.

In late 2005 I founded the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. As I studied what was happening I began to hear from our own noble and honorable sailors, soldiers, marines and airmen from all religious traditions at military bases in the US and all over the world. They all told the same horrifying story; my concerns grew.

Here is what we face.

First, the corporate interests: These for profit businesses have worked to ensure their streams of income, focusing on augmenting their own profits and avoiding liability for the damage they well understood they inflicted on America and to people around the world. To accomplish those ends they developed a collation of think tanks and not-for-profits that justified their actions, using ideas cauterized to make their actions seem plausible.

They knew they needed to change the institutions and expectations of Americans to ensure they would keep control. To that end they employed political operatives to build up the facade of respectability those ideas needed. Think of the Heritage Foundation and the words of such as Ann Coulter, John Fund, and Robert Novak. That facade is what we today know as the NeoConservatives or “NeoCons.” You can think of it as the public relations firm presently employed by those rapacious corporations which work through our government.

The third element, funded in large part by the corporate interests but acting from their own agenda, are those who are now coming out of the shadows. As their power grows their need to remain unseen diminishes. Paul Krugman and others identify these as the Theocons. It was the action of the Theocratic agenda that awakened me to what is happening. These elements are the broad strokes that bring into the light the behind the scenes action that is destroying our nation and the hope for peace and prosperity that has always been so present for Americans.

It is not simple until you understand who and why it has happened. The corporations wanted power and money; the NeoCons were willing to make it happen for power and money. The Theocons, a tool made up of elements from a formerly marginalized and unrespected segment of the Christian community, were able to realize their dreams of power and money by becoming the tool that made the whole possible.

Today the man with his finger on the button, those who will receive the order to strike; many of those who will then be expected to put their lives on the line to carry out American policy; have been molded by the influences of these elements. A power conversion has taken place that has nothing to do with freedom or religion. Many thinkers and writers saw the potential for such a threat over the last several generations. But it is our generation and those who follow who now have no choice but to take action.

Corporate interests and the patient and long range plan of Christian Reconstructionists have made this possible with the cooperation and coordination provided by the NeoCons If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I would think it was bad science fiction. But when I wake up the nightmare continues. The threats to my family, the rising tide of violence aimed at me and those I love, and those whose courage has drawn them to stand with me affirm the truth of what we confront.

It began in the early 70s with the thought by a small group of Republicans that control of the GOP could be guaranteed by taking advantage of the newly disenfranchised Southern Democrats through elements in the Evangelical churches there. You will recognize the names of those whose plans have been drawn so large today. Karl Rove, Ralph Reed, Pat Robertson, Jerry Fallwell, James Dobson, D. James Kennedy, John Hagee and Jack Abramoff were among them.

Largely credulous and uneducated the evangelical elements that became their raw material contained strains of thinking from individuals like R. J Rushrooney and Gary North. Margaret Mead once said that only a small determined group ever changes things. Ms. Mead was thinking of positive change; she could not have imagined the vision and motives that moved a small group of Baptists to take over the Southern Baptist Convention by stealth to achieve first a power base and to move on from there to apply the same methods to civil government and our military. But that is what happened.

Today the platform of the Republican Party in Texas reflects their goals. These are consistent and explicit, including the substitution of the Bible for the rule of law in America. In their world capital punishment for sodomy, adultery, for unruly children, and the end of free speech are desirable goals mandated by God. Lying to achieve the ends they believe are appointed by an unimaginable vision of God are entirely acceptable.

Paul Krugman said in his article, For God's Sake, “In 1981, Gary North, a leader of the Christian Reconstructionist movement - the openly theocratic wing of the Christian right - suggested that the movement could achieve power by stealth. "Christians must begin to organize politically within the present party structure," he wrote, "and they must begin to infiltrate the existing institutional order."

Krugman does not cite the documentation of this, though it exists in a letter written by Dr. Steven Hortzel dated March 13, 1990. The letter exhorts the recipients on how to take over their local Republican precinct. The back of the letter lays out the Platform which includes ending minority status for homosexuals, an end to the right to abortion, the sovereignty of the family instead of having that status rest with individuals, as intended by the rights theory on which America is founded. And most frightening, in their view the Church will control what is and is not a crime. The same letter sports the direction to, “Vote twice on election day.” So much for respect for our law and the institutions of America.

Today the Platform of the Republican Party of Texas reflects that agenda. The goal of the Texas Republican Party is to "dispel the myth of the separation of church and state."

Organizing and planning far in advance with funding provided by corporations through those we now know as NeoCons, they laid out the stealth plan that has been followed until the present day. You can hear this admitted in clips of a tape assembled recently by Dr. Bruce Prescott. The voices of J. R, Rushrooney, now deceased, and Gary North, his son-in-law, say it all.

No rogue elements were responsible for what took place at the Air Force Academy. Funding provided by those major corporations who put us in Iraq to augment their profits and ensure control of oil funded the NeoCons who wrote the orders taking us to the Middle East against all truth; through the same funding source grew the 'religious' institutions that have taken control of our military. To them the separation of Church and State, the first amendment of the Bill of Rights, is a myth like Bigfoot and Paul Bunyan to be dispelled, by their own words.

We can expect violence. The head cleric of St. David's Episcopal Church of Topeka, Kansas came out to support me; five hours later his church was burned to the ground. A synagogue where I spoke was desecrated. My home has been targeted by feces and beer bottles; our tires slashed; dead animals have twice been placed on our front porch. The death threats come in ceaselessly. It is not convenient and safe to confront and defy those in power; I know that but I refuse to back down. They may try to harm me but I will not go quietly; I will be a Jew from the Warsaw Ghetto, not Berlin. I will be an American from Lexington and Concord, not an American from Halliburton and Blackwater.

With all the bad news it is heartening to note that some people are standing up and fighting back. Every day we are joined by more Americans who hear, understand, and come prepared to take action.

Dr. Bruce Prescott moved to Norman, Oklahoma three years ago and started an organization called, “Main Stream Baptists,” that is challenging the primacy of Christian Reconstructionists in the Baptist faith in the same town that supplied those who carried out the take over of the Southern Baptist Convention. When Bush hosts 'religious leaders,' it is those people who receive the invitations.

Next January between 20,000 and 30,000 Baptists from all races will gather. They will be representing hundreds of thousands of Baptists who affirm the original belief that brought Baptists to America, the freedom to worship as they pleased. Together they will forge a New Baptist Covenant making them the largest Baptist group in the United States. The group includes former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton; the announcement took place in Atlanta, Georgia in January of 2007.

Others, secular and religious, for instance the Methodists who stood up to oppose the Bush Library at SMU stand with us.

I cannot emphasize strongly enough that this is not a partisan battle. I am a Republican who had the honor of serving as Assistant General Counsel in the Reagan White House and as General Counsel to two time presidential candidate H. Ross Perot. I am a Jew proud to stand with Christians, Muslims, agnostics and atheists, and others who, like those I just mentioned, are committed to the vision of an America for which generations have laid down their lives. Stand with me on this and you stand with men and women who dreamed a freedom that the real Jesus would have recognized. At the end of the day, it's simply all about just one thing; our beautiful United States Constitution. Each of us free; each of us equal, living lives where we confront not the dead words of the past but the living truth that is tomorrow.

What's Hiding In GW's Cabinet?

"I'm very good at delegating authority...I'll surround myself
with the best minds in America". Exactly who are these, best
minds in America, and where is GW Bush getting them from?

There is a common thread connecting all of Bush's appointees
so far-pharmaceuticals, oil, Wall Street and the historical
connection between the CIA, major US corporations and Nazi
Germany. If you've studied the Bush family history in any
depth you won't find many surprises among his nominations.

Paul O'Neill, the Bush nominee for Treasury Secretary, is the
chairman of Alcoa Aluminum, one of the nation's largest toxic
polluters. O'Neill owns 1.6 million shares of Alcoa, worth more
than $50 million. During WWII Alcoa negotiated a deal with
the Nazis and IG Farben to supply Germany's war machine
rather than the US military with aluminum. "If America loses
this war," said then Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes on
June 26, 1941, "it can thank the Aluminum Corporation of
America [ALCOA]."

Alcoa is the producer of hundreds of millions of tons of
fluoride. This highly toxic byproduct of aluminum has been
scientifically linked in thousands of medical studies conducted
since the 19th century to cancer and other degenerative
diseases. In the 1950's Alcoa arranged to have it profitably
added to our nation's drinking water rather than disposed of as
toxic waste. During WWII the Nazis discovered that by adding
fluoride to the drinking water in concentration camps they
could make prisoners far more submissive to authority. .

Melquiades R. Martinez, designated Secretary for Housing and
Urban Development, is a Cuban refugee who established his
political reputation by preventing new housing from being built
in conservative Orange Co. Florida-claiming it was a quality of
life violation. As chair of Orange County, Martinez eliminated
the department of community affairs, a civil rights agency that
was set up to give poor people a voice in local government. It
is probable that Martinez received CIA indoctrination after he
arrived in the US at age 15 as part of a government airlift
program of children whose parents did not want them to grow
up under the Castro regime.

NJ Governor Christie Whitman is the Bush designee for the
Environmental Protection Agency. Her massively polluted
state hosts some of the world's largest oil refineries and
chemical manufacturing plants. Environmental non-expert
Whitman has said she doubts that the giant ozone hole over the
North Pole or global warming are actually serious problems.

Donald L. Evans, the nominee for Commerce Secretary, is an
insider in the Texas "oil mafia" and is GW's closest friend and
confidant. He's also a close friend, confidant and contributor to
one of America's biggest recipients of government contacts,
Halliburton's Dick Cheney.

Rev. Floyd Flake, Dubya's nominee for Secretary of Education,
was the only prominent African American leader in NYC to
endorse Bush pal Rudy Giuliani, the racist NYC Mayor who
has executed a seven year long campaign of violence,
harassment and false arrest aimed at African Americans.
Giuliani's most memorable quote on education was a proposal
to blow up the entire NYC Board of Education.

Last year, to his everlasting credit, Flake publicly denounced
Giuliani as a mental case. Like numerous GW Bush aides and
advisors, Rev. Flake is part of the CIA's Manhattan Institute
which masterminded Giuliani's entire social eugenics agenda.
Among the areas Flake is likely to focus on for Bush is turning
public education over to religious institutions and corporations.

Ann M. Veneman, Bush's appointee for secretary of
agriculture, was deputy secretary for agriculture under
President George Bush. She is known as an advocate for letting
corporations exploit public land and for widespread
distribution of foods containing genetically-altered animal
genes, viruses, self-contained insecticides and bacteria. Bush
has said he wants to open up Federal reserves, national forests
and other pristine areas of public land to oil drilling, mining
and road construction. Under Bush stewardship, we could see
corporations running frankenfood farms in Yosemite or drilling
for oil in the Grand Canyon.

John Ashcroft, GW's choice for Attorney General, is a
self-styled moral crusader as strongly against abortion as he is
enthusiastic about the death penalty. He lost his Senate seat in
the 2000 election to an opponent who died during the
campaign. Last year, Ashcroft received an honorary degree
from Bob Jones University and is closely aligned with the
Christian Coalition and Pat Robertson. Ashcroft is also an
outspoken fan of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. He
is known among lobbyists as an advocate for drug companies
and the automotive industry and for preventing consumers
from suing HMO's.

Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., nominated as director of the Office of
Management and Budget was senior executive of the Eli Lilly
drug company-which Bush's father headed from 1977-79.
Daniels was also previously the president of the
arch-conservative think tank Hudson Institute. Daniels, who
advocates strict enforcement of laws against casual drug users,
was arrested for marijuana possession in 1970.

Secretary of State designee Colin Powell is a lifelong operative
of the CIA/military-industrial complex. While working for the
Pentagon he helped cover up the Mai Lai massacre, the
contra/arms deal and Gulf War Syndrome. Powell's fame
derives from presiding over a war in which US troops were
used as guinea pigs for experimental vaccines so that they
could "safely" fight George Bush's friend Sadamn
Hussein-who had been given the go ahead to attack Kuwait
after being supplied with chemical and biological weapons by
the Bush administration. Like many of GW's appointees of
color, Powell proudly admits he owes his career in large part to
affirmative action while joining an administration that
considers ending affirmative action one of its topmost
priorities.

Condolezza Rice, Bush's National Security advisor was
formerly a security advisor under President George Bush and
an aide to Colin Powell. She has the job of explaining the basic
elements of foreign policy to GW, about which Bush admits to
knowing almost nothing. A large part of her career was
involved in administering the CIA's foreign policy objectives.
She serves on the board of Chevron Oil-known as one of the
African continents most violent human rights abusers. A
grateful Chevron recently named an oil tanker after her.

The emerging profile of the Bush administration-moderately
conservative and multi-racial-is a facade. To see their real
agenda one has to examine the administration's ideological
source-the Manhattan Institute. GW may cultivate the image of
a plain-talkin' good ole boy who prefers barbecuing to making
policy, but virtually every idea presented as central to his
agenda comes from this elite east coast institution.

A little background
MI (The Manhattan Institute) was started in 1978 by William
Casey, one of the top intelligence operatives in US history.
During WWII Casey worked with OSS chief William Donavan
and Allen Dulles to bring top level Nazi officials to the US
where they were recruited into the newly-formed CIA, the
military, government-connected medical research institutions
and the media. The stated rational for importing Hitler's top
intelligence operatives, social scientists and propagandists to
the US was that they would be employed in fighting
Communism-exactly what Hitler claimed he used them for. In
reality they were brought here to help establish fascism in
America-a goal which they are increasingly succeeding at.

Before WWII started Dulles was involved with GW's
grandfather Prescott Bush on Wall Street where, along with
George Herbert Walker (Prescott Bush's father-in-law) they
operated banks and shipping companies that were later
declared by the US Congress to be fronts for the Nazis. In 1942
shortly after the US entered WWII the assets of these Wall
Street companies were seized by the US government under the
Trading With The Enemy Act.

Dulles was the legal counsel for both Standard Oil and for Nazi
Germany's I.G. Farben-one of the world's largest industrial
powerhouses-which was co-owned by the Rockefeller
family-the main funders of the Manhattan Institute.

The US ambassador to Germany at the time had this to say
about The Rockefellers, the Bush's, the Mellons (owners of
Alcoa) and the other wealthy Americans who were backing
Hitler and promoting Eugenics, or scientific racism:

"A clique of U.S. industrialists is hell-bent to bring a fascist
state to supplant our democratic government and is working
closely with the fascist regime in Germany. I have had plenty
of opportunity in Berlin to witness how close some of our
American ruling families are to the Nazi regime. . .They
extended aid to help Fascism occupy the seat of power, and
they are helping to keep it there." - William Dodd, U.S.
Ambassador to Germany, 1937.-Facts and Fascism, G Seldes,
p. 122 Also, Trading with the Enemy, Charles Higham, p.167

When IG Farben was broken up after Germany lost the war its
parts became the top pharmaceutical companies in the world-
BASF, Hoechst, Bayer AG, Agfa-Gevaert and Cassella AG.
Today these companies, along with Pfizer and Eli Lilly-which
former President George Bush headed from 1977-1979-are the
largest manufacturers of prescription and over the counter
drugs sold in the U.S. Both the Pfizer and Eli Lilly drug
companies are sponsors of MI.

These oil, pharmaceutical and Wall Street investment banking
elites are the foundations of the Rockefeller and Bush dynasties
and are the real constituents of the new Bush administration.

Being a business partner with the Third Reich posed no
problem for Dulles who became the first CIA director in 1947.
In fact, their relationship with the Nazis and Wall Street was
exactly how Dulles, former Pres. Bush and William Casey all
became CIA directors. GW's father was made CIA director in
1976. Shortly after creating the Manhattan Institute, William
Casey was made CIA director by Ronald Reagan.

In 1954 Casey put together a consortium of investors including
top US intelligence experts who had made fortunes on Wall
Street to form Capital Cities. In the interim, Casey served as
Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission from
1969 to 1977. By 1985 Casey's Capital Cities had so much cash
it was able to buy ABC and operate it as a propaganda arm of
the US government-which it continues to be today.

Casey was the top stockholder in ABC while he was director of
the CIA under the Reagan and Bush administrations. ABC,
CNN and Rupert Murdoch's rabidly right wing network FOX
were instrumental in fabricating GW Bush's illegitimate
presidency, the myth that Colin Powell is a hero and the idea
that the Gulf War was a military victory-rather than a human
and ecological disaster fought solely to benefit the oil industry.

The reason this history is crucial to understanding GW Bush
and his ties to the Manhattan Institute is that these same
themes-Wall Street investing, Eugenics, the oil and drug
industries, working for the Rockefeller family, manipulating
the media and the directorship and ideology of the CIA-are the
foundation on which the MI and it's influence within the new
Bush administration can be understood.

The connection between Nazi Germany, the Bush family and
the CIA is simultaneously political, financial and ideological. It
encompasses investment banking, legal and illegal drug dealing
and Eugenics, the pseudo-science of population control. Unlike
openly racist groups, they are equal opportunity employers
carefully cultivating operatives among all races. Academics,
politicians, doctors, clergy, prominent new anchors, social
scientists and in some cases even street gangs are among their
assets in the war to exert social control.

If you visit the MI website you will find a list of academics
who are their roster of so-called conservative experts. Their
areas of expertise are race, eliminating welfare, deregulation of
business and the privatization of virtually everything the
government presently manages-including education, prisons,
parks, streets, social security, courts and welfare.

A number of their experts, including Bush's domestic policy
advisor Stephen Goldsmith and Rev. Floyd Flake, are slated for
cabinet positions. Others MI notables, including Myron
Magnet, are the inventors of Bush's doublespeak theme,
"compassionate conservatism". GW has stated that next to
Jesus and the bible, Magnet's book on the so-called underclass
has been the single greatest influence on his ideas.

The Pioneer Fund, perhaps the world's greatest promoter of
Eugenics, funded MI's best-known resident scholar, Charles
Murray, during eight years in which he wrote The Bell Curve.
Despite tremendous controversy about his ideas Murray
remains the MI's leading expert on welfare reform, IQ and
affirmative action. The Bell Curve advances the idea, as do
virtually all Pioneer Fund projects, that African Americans are
genetically inferior, disease prone, have low IQ and are a drain
on the US economy. Murray's books have been heavily
promoted by the MI and are the intellectual foundation for the
movement in the US to end affirmative action and welfare.

Murray is glowingly mentioned hundreds of times on their
website, speaks at their seminars and is cited as a brilliant
scholar by none other than GW Bush's top domestic policy
advisor, Stephen Goldsmith.

Many Americans didn't seem to mind seeing the CIA ruthlessly
manipulate the political and social fabric of other nations for
the second half of the 20th century. How they will feel about
America being openly run by the CIA and this circle of racist
corporate gangsters may well determine the history of the next
century.

Killing Conservatism

With conservatives still reeling from their losses in the mid-term election, and President Bush's approval ratings heading for record lows, for the first time in six years liberals have something to cheer about. Rather than gloat about Bush's ineptness, or the failure of the GOP-controlled 109th Congress, liberals should focus on their opportunity to sink the conservative ideology that has dominated American politics for twenty-five years.

There are ten pillars of conservative political wisdom that liberals should attack:

1. Government is bad: Conservatives believe the Federal government is unnecessary, except for the military. They maintain that entitlements for the disadvantaged-the poor, elderly, and disabled-are counter-productive, as they foster dependency. Most Americans believe in the necessity for the Federal government and these entitlements. It's the role of liberals to provide a new justification for government, in general.

2. Competence is overrated: Because conservatives don't believe in government, they feel the only salient qualification for political office-such as President and Vice President-is ideological purity. As a result, the Bush White House has proved to be the most conservative and least competent Administration in modern political history. Liberals must insist that elected officials have a record of accomplishment; they should believe in working for the common good and know what they are doing.

3. Cutting taxes fixes everything: Beginning in 2001, the conservative Bush Administration reduced taxes, claiming this would reduce the size of the Federal government and a "rising tide would lift all boats." Instead, this ill-considered "panacea" created a record Federal debt and lifted only the yachts of the rich. Liberals need to roll back these tax cuts and take a stand for fiscal sanity.

4. The market will provide: Conservatives believe that, in the absence of Federal programs, the market will solve national problems. America's healthcare crisis demonstrates that this is naïve: the market doesn't care about problems that affect the average American. And, the market doesn't respond to disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina. Liberals should argue that only government can solve certain national problems and resurrect the notion that government provides a "the safety net."

5. Our best foreign policy is a strong military: Even though the US has by far the largest Defense budget in the world, conservatives continue to lobby for billions of dollars for wasteful Pentagon projects. They argue that big is better, that America's best defense is a strong military. They ignore the fact that our armed forces didn't protect us on 9/11 and haven't won the war in either Afghanistan or Iraq. Conservatives also argue that the military is our best instrument of foreign policy. It's time for liberals to demand a complete review of our defense strategy and foreign policy.

6. The U.S. is at war: Since 9/11, conservatives have argued we're engaged in a "war on terror." But we're not. Terrorism isn't a military campaign waged by countries that don't like us; it's a social disease that requires America to use a variety of means to combat extremists. Liberals need to stop calling this a war and begin lobbying for a balanced campaign that includes diplomacy and use of police and intelligence resources.

7. Don't ask questions: President Bush has consistently argued that it's not necessary to understand why terrorists want to attack us, all that's required is knowing they "hate our freedom." However, most experts on terrorism argue that terrorists have readily understandable motives, and we can head off future attacks by understanding what these motives are: for example, they want us to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace accord.

8. Trust the Commander-in-chief: Since 9/11, Bush and his conservative supporters have argued that the President, as commander-in-chief, has special responsibilities that obviate the necessity for the balance-of-powers logic in the Constitution: because the US is at "war" the President is above the law. Liberals need to attack this notion and roll back legislation that restricts our civil-rights.

9. America can go it alone: A cornerstone of conservative foreign policy is the belief that our allies are stupid and, therefore, don't care if we act like bullies most of the time. The Bush Administration philosophy assumes that since the US has a bloated military, it doesn't matter whether or not we use diplomacy or participate in international organizations. Conservatives believe that because America is big and powerful we can do whatever we want in the world: go it alone. Liberals need to point out that the strategy hasn't proven successful, that it hasn't built the alliances required to solve problems such as terrorism, AIDS, and global warming.

10. Winning is everything: Finally, the operating philosophy of conservatives has been that it doesn't matter how you accomplish your objectives, just that you win: the ends justify the means. This has been the modus operandi of a conservative Bush Administration that lied to the American people. Liberals need to stand up for telling the truth, argue that Americans are governed by a morality that that values the common good, and places the public interest above personal ambition.

In short, liberals need to provide a resounding defense of democracy.

In the entire history of our Republic, there is one day that rises above others as the profound and mysterious moment of the great American Idea: July 4, 1826.

On that day, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams lay dying, two of our greatest patriots and founders, one the father of the more progressive impulse, the other the father of the more federalist, two giant fathers of our democracy...

Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Franklin and the rest created a Republic with protections directly designed to prevent the abuses of the Crown, while General George Washington led the Contintental Army, as our commanders lead our armies today, with fervent disdain for the use of torture and fervent support for the rules of law to prevent it.

Our Founding Fathers directly decreed, and the first generation of Americans directly ratified, that we are not a Nation of secret detentions, secret courts, secret defendants, secret crimes, secret trials, and secret tortures masked by labels of deception.

If there are policies that need to be pursued for special circumstances, let them be proposed in the open, debated by an informed citizenry, decided by a knowledgable legislature, and subject to accountability. Even today, with all of the revelations of abuses and wrongs, not only are there abuses condemned by every democracy on the face of the earth, but our debate is deformed by a secrecy so pervasive, that whole giant blocks of policy are entirely removed from the traditions of our democratic debate...

It is not true conservatism, nor progressivism, nor Americanism for any President to treat the Constitutional procedures for enacting laws as nothing more than mere formality, to be violated at will, signed without sincerity, and violated unilaterally, in what is so far removed from the Americanism of our Founders that it constitutes a systematic contempt, for the American notion, of the rule of law.

It is not true conservatism, nor progressivism, nor Americanism to have our vote counting itself done by electronic machinery, often of foreign origin, using secret codes, without adequate record keeping. This is neither partisan nor conspiratorial; there will be governments of both parties, and voters of all viewpoints must be assured integrity in the most sacred aspect of freedom, the counting and if necessary recounting, of votes. The status quo is a formula for scandal.

It is not true conservatism, nor progressivism, nor Americanism, for the legislative branch of government to systematically abandon its sworn duty of government oversight, its sacred oath to perform its duty in the fateful decision about whether, or not, our country should go to war.

Jefferson, Madison, Adams and Franklin did not design the Congress to be a Potemkin village of partisan cheerleaders, for an incumbent faction, in a one party state. They designed the Congress to serve as a check and balance against abuses of executive power, or Presidential misjudgment...

We can debate our policies, and on many, reasonable people can disagree. But it is not true conservatism, nor progressivism, nor Americanism, to devalue our respect for truth, to demean each other as Americans, to destroy our checks and balances, to disregard the ideas of our democracy so casually, so lazily, so destructively, and so systematically.

In recent days, in response to several pieces I have written on the subjects discussed here, I have received an enormous number of email. I want to thank each and every person who has contacted me.

Because these matters involve great issues at a momentous occasion, what I read in these messages were mostly, but not always, from the progressive side. What was touching about them, in ways I cannot begin to find the words to fully describe, was a quiet, sincere, deeply felt patriotism and love of country that came into my box, one after another, day after day, which I read while we honored the heroes who gave their lives for the country we love, on that day five years ago, and since.

The Mom who taught her four year old about responsiblility and freedom; the painter in New York who was inspired to art; the 15 year old young woman with her brief but eloquent words of patriotism, the sixtysomething grandma who faxed 53 letters to people of responsibility; the Canadian who said he wished he were an American so he would stand with us; a senior Disney official who wrote me privately that he was shamed by his company and stood with us in his heart.

These are the good people of America, with kind hearts and deep spirits that soar above what rules in the Washington today, that Mr. Smith has long ago left.

It is not true conservatism, nor progressivism, nor Americanism, nor the way to defeat the Bin Ladens of the world, to turn against each other, and turn against the institutions and ideals that Jefferson and Adams gave our Nation, as they spoke of each other, and spoke to us, on their last July 4, fifty years from our greatest July 4.

What I urge, propose, implore and call for is an urgent summit of the financial leaders of the Democratic and progressive community, supported by President Clinton, President Carter, and Vice-President Gore to finance an emergency infusion of $25 million into Air America, the progressive blogoshere, and African American, Hispanic and Labor groups to combine a massive communications assault with a massive voting power assault for the closing weeks of this historic campaign.

I come from the JFK, Kenny O'Donnell school of politics and we are in the fight of our lives and it is time fight hard, and fight to win.

It is time to be deadly serious and understand the full magnitude of the coming assault that will soon be launched against us, and the ominous and deadly consequences if they prevail again.

It is time to do what the financiers for the one party state have been doing for thirty years.

It is time to put real money, real muscle and real power behind the real voices of real Democrats, and to fight like hell for the real democracy, and the real majority, of the real America.

It is time to man the barricades, with a sense of urgency and passion, with an immediacy and power equal to the magnitude of the forces we are up against, the unprecedented attack that is hours from beginning, and the extreme consequences of two more years of one party rule.

It is time to cut the cards, cut the crap, cut through the niceties, and play to win…
