The Green Beer Party
By David Swanson
The tea and coffee parties have cornered the market on vacuous meanness and niceness, respectively. But brownbagging is where the substance and sustenance are. Every third Wednesday of the month, those who want war defunded and everything useful funded are bringing brown bag lunches to vigil at their congress member's local office. This month that means March 17th, St. Patrick's Day. And that means more than food: Kicking off the Green Beer Party.

Iraq just held an election where at least results were posted at polling places and Diebold wasn't the only one permitted to know the results, so you'd think we could bring the troops home now (scroll down). The news from Iraq is not all good though, depite what you may have read.

Imagine if students knew all the money went to the military and thought they could stop it: California students angry about higher-ed cutbacks rock campuses Speaking of which, if you can't afford college and join the military, you may get electrocuted by KBR, which will then get big new government contracts.
For the 1000th day in a row most of the content of liberal blogs is devoted to rightwingers and the corporate media and other groups we've voted out of power, have no use for, or simply excel at repulsiveness.

Single-payer advocates in California are optimistic, but why are they helping Jerry Brown imply he might sign the bill and ignoring his statements that he won't? Is that how you're going to force him to do it? This is a disaster in the making for the Hopey Changey crowd and masochists everywhere.
Can you really end anonymous holds? David Waldman points out that they've been ended by law, although there's no consequence to behaving otherwise. Yet, I want to know why we can't force the Senate to end non-anonymous holds and filibusters and minority-rule of all sorts. And why can't that ALL be done with rule changes rather than legislation?

Rightwingers, teabaggers, and the corporate media shouting "socialist" all the time has had one interesting effect: increased support for socialism.
