2004 Election ProtestsThere They Go Again, Planning An Attack On Iran, Unless We Speak Out NowYou remember what they told us about Iraq, that they had to launch the attack because the assets were already in place? Don't tell yourself they aren't that insane. They ARE that criminally insane. And don't think they won't stage a Gulf of Tonkin type phony attack to justify it all. They've done it before. Sun Sets on the 'American Century'It is not morning in America and the sun may in fact be setting on this great experiment in representative democracy. Some American Century, eh? I've been making this case for the past year in my own words. Perusing the Web for interesting news this week, I ran across a guest column in a Texas newspaper by a journalism professor who makes the case so explicitly that I literally fear for his job and even his life. So I will share his piece with you and see if you agree. Robert Jensen, a journalism professor at the University of Texas at Austin and the author of Citizens of the Empire: The Struggle to Claim Our Humanity, starts out with these shocking assertions. "The United States has lost the war in Iraq, and that's a good thing," he writes in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "As a U.S. citizen, I welcome the U.S. defeat for a simple reason: It isn't the defeat of the United States — its people or their ideals — but of that empire. And it's essential that the American empire be defeated and dismantled." Is this guy a traitor? Or a true patriot? Protests Planned for Bush's InaugurationBy Glynn Wilson BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Dec. 3 (SDN) ‹ Democratic and independent activists from all over the United States are planning protests to coincide with the inauguration of George W. Bush on Jan. 20, 2005. Several Washington-based groups will lead the protests, including United for Peace and Justice and D.C. Anti-War Network (DAWN). While spokesmen for both groups were reluctant to talk about specific numbers, some activists on Internet Weblogs, discussion forums and e-mail listservs have been calling for as many as 10 million people to descend on the nation's capital. "We are urging people to go to Washington," said Bill Dobbs, media coordinator for United for Peace and Justice. "We also encourage local protests and the white ribbon wearing" campaign for peace. The goal is to show the world that Americans are just as fed up with the U.S. electoral process as the youth movement in the Ukraine, he said. |
