Stop the Democratic Surrender on Iraq - Call Your Representative NOW
In their meeting with Bush last week, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid tried to offer Bush a naked surrender covered only by a figleaf (timelines with a "waiver"), but Bush wouldn't even accept the figleaf.
So Pelosi and Reid spent the weekend strategizing and appear to have chosen naked surrender.
In grudging concessions to President Bush, Democrats intend to draft an Iraq war-funding bill without a timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops and shorn of billions of dollars in spending on domestic programs, officials said Monday...
Democrats in both houses are expected to seek other opportunities later this year to challenge Bush's handling of the unpopular conflict.
Democratic officials stressed the legislation was subject to change. They spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss provisions before a planned presentation to members of the party's rank and file later in the day.
So what will happen in the meeting? Will the Democratic rank-and-file surrender to their surrenderers-in-chief?
Or will they stand up for the overwhelming majority of Americans who want them to find a way to end the war as soon as possible?
This afternoon's meeting is crucial so call your Representative at 202-224-3121.
Update 1: NPR reports the Pentagon plans to stay in Iraq for "a few decades":
A series of military installations could be maintained around Iraq, with a total of total of 30,000 to 40,000 U.S. troops, for a long period of time — maybe a few decades.
Update 2: AP reports Bush is turning the screws on Iraq's parliament to turn Iraq's oil over to U.S. oil companies for a few decades (under 30-year "production-sharing agreements"), but that pressure is backfiring:
Senior Kurdish lawmaker Mahmoud Othman confirmed that U.S. pressure was mounting, especially on the oil bill, which was endorsed by the Iraqi Cabinet three months ago but has yet to come to the floor of parliament.
"The Americans are pressuring us to accept the oil law. Their pressure is very strong. They want to show Congress that they have done something so they want the law to be adopted this month. This interference is negative and will have consequences," Othman told AP.
Update 3: Big Tent Democrat offers this plan:
We must ALL press for an end date certain for the funding of this Debacle. We must insist that NO BILL be passed funding the Iraq Debacle after a date certain. We must insist on the Reid-Feingold framework. The rest is not only a waste of time, but, as the House Supplemental efforts that started this mess, harmful.

Gutless Dems
I just called my Senator and also left a message for Pelosi. She's the one calling the shots, so everyone should bombard her with phone calls and Email. I told her I don't want to hear about anything but impeachment. If they can't get anything done while they are in the majority, then we need to get rid of the man at the top who just recently found his veto pen!!!!!
Andrea, you lost your comment because you are one...
of those Borgen Project cultists from Washington State who want to talk about that and nothing else.
None of you seem to understand that unless we can change the administration, nothing can be done.
You have a worthy cause. That is not the problem. There are more pressing needs that must be accomplished before world hunger can be addressed. If we do not get our government back, we will have massive hunger right here in this country.
Please do not continue to cleverly camoflage your particular interest into the threads of others.

The greatest derangement of the mind is to believe in something because one wishes it to be so.
Bush is not God
Some Democrats treat Bush like his favorable ratings were in the 90s rather than the lower 30s, or by some polls the upper 20s. Bush is a lame duck president, so worship of him is not necessary.
Voters indicated they want our troops out of Iraq. If Democrats have a "tin ear" and do not get the troops out of Iraq, they do not deserve to remain in power after the next election.
If Democrats approve funding without strong benchmarks with consequences if they are not met, they do not deserve to remain in power after the next election.
Democrats, get some backbone!
Dems Surrender
I could carve people with more backbone out of a banana. I'm ashamed to call myself a Democrat.
A much cheaper solution to spending the Tax Dollars
A much cheaper solution to solving the waste of tax dollars on the little pieces of the puzzle, is to go forward with full Impeachment hearing and air all the dirt in one swoop. Drum them out, like Branded and show them as the treasonous liars to the American People who still support his Bush It. Americans once the truth is know will make the right decision. Democrats, send a Immigration Guest worker plan withthe timeline and if he wants something, he'll have to bring something toward America's table for progress either onthe troops home or the Katrina debaucle
One way or the other, don't fall for the temper tantrum DEMOCRATS, all brats do this.
Discipline Bush's spoiled Arse and Impeach the rest of his cohorts in charge who are swindling Americans out of their hard earned History!!
