Steny Hoyer Attacks His Democratic Base

Nancy Pelosi is the "Speaker of the House," and is therefore supposed to speak for all House members, Democrats and Republicans. By her very title, she's not supposed to be excessively partisan - although former House Speaker Newt Gingrich certainly never behaved that way.
But one step down the Democratic hierarchy from Pelosi is a fellow named Steny Hoyer. And what is his title? Majority leader. By his very title, he's supposed to be the ultimate partisan in the House, just like his predecessor Tom DeLay.
Well apparently Hoyer despises the voters who put Democrats in the majority and gave him his title - namely the Democratic base.
"I know the base is mad at us – and I’m mad at the base." When he tossed that off, I inquired "Because.....?" He basically said the base has unrealistic expectations in terms of ending the war, and the Dems can’t de-fund it because doing so would anger the moderates they need to win more seats in ’08. (I must be delusional in thinking that the 70% of the public opposed to the war includes some independents – that’s obviously not the thinking in Hoyer-land).
According to our latest poll, 73% of Americans want Democrats to use their spending power to bring all troops home within a year. That includes 86.5% of Democrats, but that's apparently not enough for the "Majority Leader."
It also includes 78% of Independents, and 52% of Republicans. Is that enough for you, Mr. "Majority Leader"?
If not, exactly what percent of voters have to demand an end to the war before you will provide the "Leadership" to represent our will?

Is an idiot and a disgrace to our party. Why doesn't he just change over? Because he would never get elected in Maryland. Let him be mad all he wants. Can anyone say primary?

I almost forgot that Hoyer was even in Congress. Thanks for reminding us of his role. He's no leader. He's certainly a hack without supporting Democratic values. The Democratic leaders look like they vanished into thin Republican air.

When the Dems came in I was hopeful. Now, I'm just disappointed. I'm glad Hoyer is mad at the base, and I'm glad that he told me so, because I'm mad at these invertebrate cowards, the whole lot of them.
I'm mad that we have a House speaker who, after Dems around the country worked to install this crew, turned around and said that "Impeachment is off the table!" thereby granting permission to Bush & Co. to commit more high crimes and misdemeanors.
She showed no respect for the rule of law or for our Constitutional system of government. She is in bed with the fascists.
Actually, Nancy inherited Reid and it was the Democrats...
in the House who voted Hoyer in as whip. More like a wimp I think since his counterpart across the aisle was Tom DeLay who was a whip.
Nancy has one weak supporter(Reid)and then to get Hoyer as whip was too much. It is very possible that she is stalemated by Reid and Hoyer. Certainly these two dummies are part of her problem.

Yep, you're right, and thanks for the wimp-whip chuckle.
Chip, wimp is the only acceptable word I could think of...
other than a word that describes him perfectly but would insult at least half of our membership. That word, we don't allow anymore.
Another alternative would be Admiral Fallon's use of "Ass licking chickenshit," but that won't quite do either. Licking whose posterior you ask? Why, that of Al From of the DLC of course.
Hoyer is DLC to his very marrow. As is Landrieu, the two Nelsons, and all the other ALCS(see Fallon's comment above)that we AND Pelosi have to contend with.
All our wormy-squirmys on our side of the house are leaving we the people with fewer and fewer options. Perhaps they will be waked some night by the flickering light of torches in front of their homes--the tar hot and the feathers ready.
They must really hate some of us. We demand that they do something in return for the princely salaries and perks we provide them.
A shame that there are no federal initiatives available to we the people--we could reduce them to minimum wage without the perks. The pigs would walk away from the trough and perhaps then, we could get someone in their place who care.

I Blame Pelosi, too
I blame Pelosi, too, for single-handedly selling out our nation's Constitutional checks and balances by declaring that impeachment is off the table. Poor Nancy, she has to contend with Hoyer.
She is a politician who has demonstrated her allegiance to skewed, adulterated partisan values rather than upholding Constitutional values.
Let the investigations and impeachments begin. There is no higher calling now.
If someone like Steny Hoyer is angry with the Dem base...
it seems to me that we, the Democratic Wing of the Dem Party are doing something right, i.e., doing our jobs the best we can to protect our country and our Constitution. It also seems obvious to me that we have a group of leaders who are so out of touch as Hoyer/Reid are. Obviously they fail to learn the ins and outs of the internet. Perhaps they feel that they are still rooted in the 19th century. Hoyer is one of those sucking syncophants who must think of the world as flat and that the sun revolves around us rather than vice versa.
Hoyer has to go. Reid has to go. Who are the best choices(from the very limited selection we have available)we have to replace them?
Nancy, whilst attempting to stay above the fray, finds herself in a position where she cannot even face her supporters in the Bay Area. Unfortunately, she will have to defend her seat at some point...and that will be where the rubber meets the road.

Hoyer was put into leadership to have "no leadership". Just like Emanuel had no Democratic agenda to end the war, etc. and make sure these Faux Democrats won elections.
Just as frustrated
We are just as frustrated as everyone about this war not coming to an end, but, we cannot blame the Democratic Party. We can only place the blame on the voters who barely gave us the majority. We need more Democrats to end this war as the Republicans seem willing to take their chances and stick by Dubya.
It is a numbers game and right now we just don't have the numbers.
I think Pelosi made a mistake when they took impeachment off the table. It is done and in the past.
We all need to unite and know that in 08' we need a larger majority in Congress and a Democrat in the White House to stop this war.
I would like to see the names of all of the members of Congress who still stand by this moron we have for a president. Those members need to be targeted for the 08' elections.
We are playing right into the GOP hands when we attack our own party. Good or bad the Democratic Party is still our best chance at getting this country back on it's feet after what this corrupt administration has done.
We must unite and get a real majority.

I like being attacked by elected authority otherwise I wouldn't be here. Certainly better than getting Tasered by campus police. I believe Hoyer (what kind of name is Steny anyway?) is speaking for a majority of Dem electees who are tired of us nagging at them like wives wanting a new kitchen. "Use the one you have or go get a job and pay for it yourself."
My rep, the honorable Too Tall Joe Crowley only thinks about his imaginary Repug challenger. So he sponsors bills that serve corporate interests just like the rest of them. He's rewarded at election time. That's the system he deals with. And so do we. Where are the challengers from the PDA or anywhere else in NY07? No where in sight.
How do we react? Blog, blog, blog. Safe and secure. Instead of getting in the Dems hair for aminute, we should be like bedbugs. Get in their beds forcing them to change the beds or forever scratch.
There will always be Dem candidates. Will there be supporters? Who knows. This bunch has turned off so many progressives I wonder.
I'll watch the primaries carefully before I make a spectacle of myself. When monks burn, governments churn.
