CNN's Soledad O'Brien Calls Russ Feingold "Crazy"

Monday morning at 7:15 a.m., CNN American Morning anchor Soledad O'Brien conducted one of her regular vicious jihads against a Democrat. Her victim this morning was Senator Russ Feingold, who has the audacity to propose censuring George Bush for repeatedly breaking the law by authorizing warrantless wiretaps of law-abiding Americans. (CrooksandLiars.com has the video.)
Feingold's proposal was introduced with full seriousness and recognition of its gravity. But O'Brien didn't want to discuss the substance of the proposal - she just wanted to call Feingold crazy, which she did repeatedly.
Namecalling is easy and cheap. If I wanted to smear Soledad O'Brien, I could call her a "fascist." In fact, I just did - see the image on the left.
There is only one way to stop these kinds of vicious attacks, and that is by demanding an immediate apology. So here is the comment I submitted at
http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5.html?2
I DEMAND AN IMMEDIATE APOLOGY FROM SOLEDAD O'BRIEN AND CNN FOR REPEATEDLY SMEARING SENATOR RUSS FEINGOLD AS "CRAZY" BECAUSE HE BELIEVES GEORGE BUSH SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR BREAKING THE LAW.
I hope you'll join me in this rapid-response protest.

IMO, She doesn't want wiretapped
Because the rest of our legislators have abrogated their responsibilities and broken their oaths of office by granting the Executive too much power and looking the other way while the POTUS of the US spits on our legal and court systems, 'journalists' (I use the term lightly when referring to any talking head who can't report the news without interjecting meaningless opinion.) know that to keep from being wiretapped, one must kiss the butt of the Wiretapper King. George W. Bush never met a hidden wire he didn't like.
I'm just going to call him Watergate George from now on. The only difference is that Nixon was held to account - sort of.
Soledad
Don't forget that her mother is Cuban..............and most all of them are Dumbya and Jebby supporters. Feingold has a lot of courage to do what he is doing................even though with a Repug Congress, he's going nowehere with this censure thing.
Reporter's opinions
Reporters are supposed to report the facts not their opinions. In fact my belief is that Mr. Bush has broken the law and has purposefully and purposely lied to the public on many occasions including as a reason to get us into war with Iraq. If Mr. Clinton can be impeached for a private matter then surely Mr. Bush has to be held accountable for much more serious matters. Please let Ms. O'Brien know that a majority of the American people don't think the idea of impeachment is farfetched. On the contrary,we think it well justified.
Soledad needs to thank the Democrats...
for having a job on CNN.
Soledad and New Orleans
Just remember Soledad as she walked through the Superdome where the US government a la George Bush abandoned poor people. All that she could talk about was the smell. Did she care that people had starved and had died there? No way! She had her little nose wrinkled the whole time. I feel about the same way about her broadcasts. She is an intellectual lightweight and should be filed under the irrelevant idiot category.
FACIST
I'M SO SICK AND TIRED OF THESE MORON REPUGNANT (W)ITCHES THINKING THEY HAVE A BRAIN !!
SHE'S AS BAD AS THAT DUMB UGLY BLONDE THING WHATS HER SNAKE NAME OH YES ann coulter. THE FACIST PIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't worry too much
about Miss Can't Hold a Job. I can't imagine that anyone pays any attention to her, not even the Fox crowd. Her comments today are a good example why. Who the heck cares about her opinion? BTW, Bob, why the heck were you watching CNN? The WB channel is far more informative, and more intertaining.
Have you ever heard her try to laugh? She would better serve herself to just say "Ha. Ha."
Mourn not the dead that in the cool earth lie, but rather mourn the apathetic throng, the coward, and the meek, who see the world's great anguish and its wrong, and dare not speak.

Feingold's NOT CRAZY, the lazy Democrats are
Feingold's censure resolution is a start. EVERY DEMOCRATIC SENATOR should be immediately e-mailed and asked to support Feingold's resolution. Here's a copy of my e-mail to my Senators, Boxer and Feinstein:
Dear Senators Boxer and Feinstein:
I urge you to support Russ Feingold’s resolution for censure of President Bush. Bush, so far, has gotten away with “murder” with respect to the illegal wiretapping taking place in the recently discovered NSA program, and, other than the party line vote in the Intelligence Committee last week, the Democrats in Congress have shown little interest in pursuing an investigation.
Democrats, for the last 34 years, since McGovern’s loss in the 1972 election, have been running from the right wing’s mantra of “don’t trust the Democrats on national security.” As a result, over the last 15 or so years, the Democrats have attempted to position themselves as “the same as the Republicans on national security.” Witness Bill Clinton’s aggressive use of military power during his Presidency.
9-11 did change the world, at least insofar as American politics is concerned. For the Democrats to say that “we’re the same as the Republicans” on national security, is to concede the issue entirely to the Republicans. That position will NEVER win an election for Democrats. If “Joe Voter” is most concerned about national security, he may as well vote for the party that has sold itself as the “national security party,” the Republicans.
There’s no question that as long as Karl Rove is around, the Republicans will make EVERY election about national security, regardless of the economy or other domestic issues.
The Democrats need to take a stand on the “War on Terror,” in a way that clearly differentiates them from Bush and the Republicans. Here’s my suggestions on the stand:
First, yes, 9-11 was a terrible thing. But to fear 9-11 is to give short shrift to the far greater threats that this nation faced with World War II and the Cold War. Al Gore stated this in his speech on MLK day, far better than I could. The Democrats need to get the nation beyond infantile fear of 9-11.
Second, the Democrats should emphasize that failure in Iraq is due solely to Bush’s incompetence in conducting the War, especially with respect to troop levels and failure to involve other countries in the post-invasion reconstruction.
Third, as they have recently with the Dubai ports deal, the Democrats need to emphasize that protecting America from another 9-11 is more than just fighting wars in Iraq and perhaps Iran; it’s protecting our borders, our sea ports, our trains, and our nuclear power plants. Diablo Canyon, a nuclear power plant, has no greater protection than any ordinary power plant. What’s to prevent a terrorist from loading a boat with a massive amount of ordinary explosives, and bringing it up the coast, to explode it next to the nuclear plant, perhaps causing a massive radiation leak?
Fourth, the Democrats should come up with a unified strategy for Iran that involves all nations of the world and the U.N., not just a pre-selected “coalition of the willing,” as was done with Iraq.
Fifth, the Democrats need to urge that they are the party that will restore the world’s confidence in the United States as a true beacon of liberty, not the false one that Bush has created. “Winning” the “War on Terror” means holding true to the ideals that made this nation great, including respecting the constitutional right of privacy that the FISA law was meant to protect. The Democrats need to hammer the Republicans in Congress for their blind support of the idiotic and destructive policies of “their” President, in dismantling the prior 50 years of alliances and trust that many Presidents, both Democrat and Republican, had built upon since World War II, and Bush’s dismantling of our Constitution by his illegal acts, including the runup to the Iraq War and the NSA illegal wiretapping.
Democrats cannot simply say on the issue of national security, “we’re the same as Bush and the Republicans.” Nor can they simply ‘nuance’ the discussion, as Kerry attempted to do in the 2004 election. He lost (assuming he did lose, more below) because he failed to articulate a national security position that was truly ‘different’ from Bush.
Obviously, the Democrats should also talk about the domestic issues that the Republicans have made such a mess of, including, in order of importance, health care for all, deficits caused by tax cuts for the wealthy, the flight of manufacturing jobs from the U.S. because of laissez-faire trade policies, and the Republican corruption scandal.
Finally, I contintue to urge that the Democrats need to fix the election system. I know that you are both co-sponsors of the Democrats’ election fix bill, which apparently has languished in committee. As members of the party out of power, you can’t control the agenda. But you need to make very public the issue of restoring confidence in the vote, by demanding a voter-verified paper trail for ALL ballots by this fall’s election. I have no doubt that Bush’s charlatans played with the electronic voting machines in Florida and Ohio, states critical to the Democrats regaining control of Congress and the Presidency, possibly causing Kerry to lose. Unfortunately, those two states, I believe, don’t have state laws guaranteeing a paper trail for ballots counted this fall.
Please support Senator Feingold’s censure resolution.
John Farbstein
Excellent!
Thanks for a really great analysis, Farbie. You've done a great job of explaining why Dems can expect the same results as before by running as "republican-lites."
The ports deal has blown the lid right off of Bush's national security gambit and exposed just how poor a manager he is. After watching the tragedy on the gulf coast as our fellow Americans begged and pleaded for food, water, sanitation, medical care and evacuation, no one can look at the ports as secure. Bush has done as lousy a job with that as he has with everything else.
That said, Senator Feingold's initiative does put Mr. Bush on notice that he is accountable to the law, and that is, at least, a step forward. I hope all our Democratic senators support him on this.
Very good, John
100% in agreement with you, and may I add that we had a primary election with only 8% of the people participated in. These so-called “caucus” was about as trustworthy as a kangaroo court of law, right from the start. The first thing we hear is the elections cost too much! And they start cutting costs by axing our “democracy”, [A true democracy is the freedom to elect by majority of the all the people of the United States of America]. With our polling places are in turmoil, anything and everything will go wrong as we can see from the last election. Let use go back to pencil and paper ballots, [the old fashion way]. Computers are not a good alternative for paper ballots because it has no paper trail or foolproof backup system to go back on, and the Internet is a hacker paradise. With a “computer” what can go wrong, will go wrong. We know what happen the last election, and nothing is being done to fix the problem, so we can look forward to a rerun of the last election. It is as simple as two and two make four.
Censure is only a slap on the wrist...
For what Bush has done, he needs to be impeached and convicted of the crimes he has committed.
Censure doesn't cut it.
"Feingold" a man with a backbone!
I was born a Democrat and will die one, but I do have a right to my opinions and everybody has that right. A third-party is only a smokescreen set forth by people who are
Discouraged with politics or think something or a third-party will do better. The Democratic Party is a party for “ALL” the people; the people we elect are the ones who have strayed from our party beliefs. And to see our Democrat Senators telling us that Feingold is wrong at this time to introducing a bill to Censure Bush! When is a good time? These Democrats are in the wrong Party! I say we should stop donating money to these dead beats tell they start talk and acting like Democrats! And start doing something for the US Citizen for a change instead of just filling their pockets.
Bravo, Old Geecer!
I couldn't agree more.
We need to support true Democrats,
not DINOs.
Third party candidates only take votes away
from our party. Right now, they are not
the solution.
Feingold has the courage and conviction we
need in our leaders. I support him 100%.
Speaking of our spineless leadership...
I understand that Tom 'SPINELESS' Daschle is thinking about running for the presidency. Guess he couldn't find another job in his home state.
Those interested should be sending Daschle emails/letters telling him to put a sock in his plans.

CNN
Lets rember cnn and crew spend all their wakeing moments worrying about some guys organ that quit working and they want you to give up all your time to get an ulcer worrying with them with republicans in charge i guess theres nothing to worry about. they gave us our guns back avoiding becomeing a police state.now they want to spy censor wiretap and force their failed fbi on us .The trade off isnt worth it .It is becomeing apparent that some democrats are going to need replaceing this election for the good of the party they need to face the fact this is the computer age and information such as voteing records are getting out
Maybe Soledad is right
if so, we need more crazy Democrats in Congress. Harry Reid said yesterday that he didn't want to vote on the censure resolution. Durbin also said he didn't think it would come to a vote. They look like they are running away from it and it's not even for impeachment. Why aren't more Dems lining up behind Feingold?
A answer to your Question
Very simple answer to your question is, we have to many so-called Democrats that are imposters, and these imposters are there for personal gain not for the US Citizen. A true Democrat has his heart for what is the best for all the people, not just a group or special interest people. The true “tragedy” of this is we keep voting for these imposters.
Because they think it would
Because they think it would hurt their political careers, to stand with Feingold. They are all moving to what they perceive to be the center to get reelected. Remember the republicans lost seats after the Clinton impeachment debacle and now that we are "at war" they don't want to appear to be attacking the president. Apparently to most Americans bush's lies are not all that important. It could be a smart political move, actually. Not with me and not with the liberal base, but it could help them , some of them, pick up some disgruntled repugs and a few undecideds.
Ok that is as far as I can go in explaining them. I am NOT defending them just trying to understand how they seem to be thinking.
This is how they do it:
Proud member of the reality based community.
rant.
OK, people like you give good honest liberals a bad name....
#1: Soledad O'Brien did not even ONCE call Feingold "crazy." Yes, the word came up a couple times during the interview, and each time she made it VERY clear that she was quoting Bill Frist. In fact, she said that "crazy" is Frist's own word more times than she said the word "crazy." Did you actually watch the interview, or did you see someone else post this myth and decide it was juicy enough to spread and call your own?
#2: I am ashamed of everyone here. Did anyone bother to pull up the video of the interview? I doubt it, since my post is the first to make this correction. You can't believe everything you hear and read - especially on the Internet - even if you WANT to believe it. That's what the conservatives do, and we're supposed to be better than that. We're supposed to be the THINKERS. I'm sad to say that liberals are just as guilty of spreading propaganda as any neocon... those of us who care about truth and honor and CHANGE should check references. Frankly, none of us look good when caught spreading lies like this.
#3: People, we need to watch more Fox News. Why? Because you keep your friends close but your enemies closer. I watch FNC so I can intelligibly debate their neutrality with their "base." You never get anywhere or learn anything if you only surround yourself with the ideas you already agree with.
#4: Also, watch more C-SPAN (and C-SPAN2, and C-SPAN3...) Why? Let me put it this way: I'm a cigar smoker. If CNN is a political cigarette, C-SPAN is a political cigar. It's unfiltered, natural, flavorful, and it goes well with scotch. I'm a scotch drinker. Did ANY of you who actually support Feingold's proposed measure WATCH him deliver it? I did, and maybe farbie did. It was kinda sad watching the rest of the Democrats with their thumbs up their asses, and you'd only get that by watching it directly.
#5: To all those who wish to discredit me or attack me: Fuck you. We're on the same fucking side. Bickering like that is what makes us weak. Liberals of all shapes, colors and creeds need to unite to undo the damage that has been done. That means we have to stop tripping on our own words. We have to stop worrying so much about offending people. We have to grow balls and face down our distinguished colleagues on the other side of the aisle. Most of all, we have to stop telling people what they want to hear and just TELL IT LIKE IT IS. That's why I've always supported Feingold, even on the rare occasion that I don't agree with him. Hell, that's why I support Senator McCain, especially on the rare occasion that I agree with him.
#5: While I'm ranting.... people, let's stop with these smoking bans. If anyone here dares call Soledad O'Brien a fascist while supporting a smoking ban, I'll extend a virtual dick-slap through your monitor. Now, I'm not the kind of person who thinks laws should be convenient for businesses, but the hospitality industry is really suffering and people are losing their jobs. I just saw a commercial on TV that said restaurants in Madison, WI saw a 24% boost in business after the smoking ban went into effect... what they neglect to mention is that this doesn't include the restaurants (and bars) that went out of business. Across the board, they average around 35-45% drop in business, which means hundreds of thousands of dollars (and tips) not going to waitstaff. We are supposed to be pro-labor, and a smoke-free work environment is a good thing... but a smokey work environment is better than a smoke free unemployment office.
6: Lastly, Soledad O'Brien is a fine broadcast journalist. She should leave her husband and begin procreating a super-race with Stephen Colbert. They should wrap Bill O'Reilly in a cocoon and feed him to their spawn.
Do you have a fucking job?
I ask that ever so tenderly because you drone on and on instead of doing exactly what you demand others not to: bicker.
If you think for a second that the Right gives a shit about truth or accuracy you have yet to open your lids. I am not making an excuse for any faults, anywhere, but to act as if the Right gives a rat’s ass OR those who are mesmerized by the Right, is just plain silly. To hit and run with a single post also shows poor form.
Yes, posters that are well known are given the benefit of the doubt. (Especially the president of the site.) We did not need a book to point out a mistake, if it has occurred, and that is why I ask about your employment. I for one did not pull up the video as I’m a bit busy.
By the way, plumbing codes cost money too. If you would rather shit out a window like a medieval gent, be my guest. I hope however you don’t mind if I get pissed. I am pro labor but you are not. Otherwise you would have sat your ass down and developed arguments for aiding the vast majority of workers. Further you worry about minutiae because you offer little bits of fluff as OTHER LEFT, while Democrats here offer massive changes for labor.
The main topic of your rant could have been accomplished in one sentence and without screwing people over. Thanks for bringing this to my attention however. I will check and get back to ya.
Oddly enough I don’t hate ya. So far you seem like a curmudgeon rather than a Republican Troll. Either that or you have the serious hots for Soledad.
I agree about c span and ANY other non political source for data.
I have a job, and I'm a
I have a job, and I'm a college student. And I am definitely NOT a Republican troll, and I have no delusion that the right gives a shit about truth or accuracy... I'm actually damn sure they don't give a shit. But that's no excuse for us to lower ourselves. Admittedly, a misquote like this isn't really that big of a deal. It was just the straw that broke the camel's back (and my rant spilled out of its hump).
I mentioned that I have a job. It's not my job to sit here and write an exegesis of Democratic doctrine, or of my own doctrine. I said in the headline that it was a rant, so take it at face value. It was hardly enough to pigeonhole my political standing.
Also, I'd like to point that, while some may I am guilty of the bickering, I offer constructive criticism. I'm not here to insult or attack anyone.
Well now, you’ve begun to
Well now, you’ve begun to put things in perspective.
The “rant” warning is a help but no license for lack of discipline.
You will not be shielded from Right Wing attack by acting holier than thou or above the frey: E.G. exclaiming that “liberals are just as guilty of spreading propaganda as any neocon”
That is bullshit and an attempt at false centrism/compromise. When is the last time for example you saw Liberals attempting to coerce kids into praying to Jesus or Zeus, or studying that the earth is 5000 years old?
Okay, I watched the video
Okay, I watched the video and you’re either a troll or you need to stop fantasizing about Soledad and find a 3d woman. (If shy, you can do that by photoshoping two images, shot at slightly differant perspectives, next to each other and then viewing them cross eyed.)
She threw EVERY Republican ploy against Feingold and he clobbered her. It was disgusting that she FOUGHT against censuring this President. What will it take for the Press to get back even 1 percent of that showdown hunger they had for a certain Democratic President?
Not only did Soledad throw Republican “logic” at Feingold but also VERY clearly used the “crazy” comment offensively with inflection filled with anti censure emotion. Your footnote does not change her clear objective. Get real.
Wow, wouldn't the media be
Wow, wouldn't the media be so great if every investigative reporter agreed with the person he/she is interviewing? Feingold handled it fantastically, and I think that did more for his image than if he just sat there and she smiled and nodded. Frankly, I don't know what her political views are, and neither do you... it was her JOB to get as much out of him as possible, and she did that well. Honestly, if you really want to label her, do a little more research than one interview.
NO. FALSE. NEGATIVE. The
NO.
FALSE.
NEGATIVE.
The press’s job is to be BIASED. They are NOT to give each “side” a 50/50 pass.
That is for idiots.
Let’s leave this specific issue for just a moment. Tell me in what areas you agree with the above statement if any.
Puhleeze
If you knew anything about true journalism, you'd know it's a hatchet job, ala Faux Spews.
The story was supposedly that Feingold wanted the POTUS censured because he broke the law. It wasn't Frist. It wasn't about who is crazy. It wasn't about what Soledad 'believes.' Soledad was Frist's mouthpiece. I wonder how much she's getting paid for her PR. Using the word 'crazy' is one of those shiny objects the media is told to throw in there to attract the rabid dogs of fundamentalism.
That was supermarket tabloid journalism and I fully expect to see a picture of Soledad in one of those rags right next to the mug of the bat boy soon.
