It's George Washington's fault

The lies are getting ridiculous and it really is getting embarrassing. Gonzalez, who was not put under oath because Spector thought it would not be a good way to begin the hearing, [Roll the video tape] has apparently explained to America and to our legislators, that Bush is not in error when ordering warrantless surveillance on Americans because:

President Washington, President Lincoln, President Wilson, President Roosevelt have all authorized electronic surveillance on a far broader scale.

[Roll the Video Tape]

I don't know about presidents Wilson and Roosevelt, but when it comes to Washington and Lincoln, I'm finding a hard time believing that either one of them authorized wire tapping.

Washington, president 1789-1797
Lincoln, president, 1861-1865

Telephone patented by Bell, 1876

I believe Washington even missed out on the telegraph.

So, how did Washington, especially, authorize electronic surveillance on a far broader scale when he had no telephone, no radio, no telegraph - hell, not even a phonograph...

The lies are getting so ridiculous it's frightening and our legislators just sit there. Some of them - like Spector - think it's just great that someone like Gonzalez can lie through his teeth to lawmakers but it's ok, apparently because Gonzalez wasn't sworn in.

I'm just wondering if any of them ever get embarrassed.

George Washington authorized electronic surveillance on a far broader scale than Bush did...You just can't make stuff up like this, folks.
