Speaking in Colorado this weekend, Gov. Sarah Palin tried to explain the recent federal bailout by claiming that lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had “gotten too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.” The companies, however, “aren’t taxpayer funded but operate as private companies. The takeover may result in a taxpayer bailout during reorganization,” McClatchy noted. Palin’s satement “is somewhat nonsensical because up until yesterday there was sort of no public funding there,” said Andrew Jakobovics of the Center for American Progress Action Fund. “The ‘too expensive to taxpayers,’ I don’t know where that comes from.”

Should we look beyond 30 second sound bites and the Pink Cloud of Sarah Palin's newness on the National Scene?? We know she's pretty and smart, but is that enough?

Remember the (pure fantasy) resumes for president referred to at the Republican National Convention? Here is a version of (the real) Sarah Palin's Resume for Vice President. (Or President-if God forbid, John McCain should be elected President and have some tragedy befall him.)

Experience:

1. Figurehead mayor in a city of 5,000 (at that time). After threat of recall, Sarah Palin was pressured by her party to hire a city administrator who did the day to day work of running the city. (This may mean that Obama has more city experience than Sarah Palin, since he actually did the work of being a city organizer himself.)

2. Governor of a state which is smaller than some cities. (Alaska has 670,000 residents)

On June 8, 2008 Palin was publicly blessed, with the "laying on of hands" before six thousand Wasilla area church members, by Head Wasilla Assembly of God Pastor Ed Kalnins and on the same day both Kalnins and Palin described, at a "Masters Commission" ceremony at the Wasilla Assembly of God church, how she had been blessed prior to winning the Alaska governorship by an African cleric known for driving the "spirit of witchcraft" out of a town in Kenya, after which town crime rates allegedly dropped "almost to zero". Palin used state funds to fly from Juneau and attend the event. Kalnins, in a Wasilla AoG sermon, has called for "Jesus" to be installed as literal lord and king of the Wasilla area.

Back in the early days of the seemingly interminable Afghan
conflict, a young American, trapped in Afghanistan by the US invasion

not the real American Taliban. That title surely belongs to our new
Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin.

The banners, buttons and signs say McCain-Palin, but the crowds say something else.

''Sa-rah! Pa-lin!'' came the chant at a Colorado Springs rally on Saturday moments before Republican nominee John McCain took the stage with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a woman who was virtually unknown to the nation just a week earlier. The day before, thousands screamed ''Sa-rah! Sa-rah! Sa-rah!'' at an amphitheater outside Detroit.

Sarah Palin has been compared to a lot of politicians, both real (Dan Quayle) and fictional (Tracy Flick). But the best comparison is America's most hated President himself, George W. Bush.

Like Bush, Palin is a folksy-acting Governor with few accomplishments and plenty of scandals.

Like Bush, Palin took a budget that was running a surplus and left behind a huge debt.

Like Bush, Palin destroys the careers of any underlings who dare to disagree with her.

Like Bush, Palin is happy to lie about her non-accomplishments and stonewall her scandals.

Sarah Palin sure likes to brag about cutting wasteful spending, but the biggest project she undertook as Mayor of Wasilla was a disaster for city taxpayers, according to Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal:

The biggest project that Sarah Palin undertook as mayor of this small town was an indoor sports complex, where locals played hockey, soccer, and basketball, especially during the long, dark Alaskan winters.

The only catch was that the city began building roads and installing utilities for the project before it had unchallenged title to the land. The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin's legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla.
