Republicans Only Want Tax Cuts for the Rich

This is the Republican plan for preventing a Depression, as authored by Jim DeMint (SC):
o Permanently repeal the alternative minimum tax once and for all;
o Permanently keep the capital gains and dividends taxes at 15 percent;
o Permanently kill the Death Tax for estates under $5 million, and cut the tax rate to 15 percent for those above;
o Permanently extend the $1,000-per-child tax credit;
o Permanently repeal the marriage tax penalty;
o Permanently simplify itemized deductions to include only home mortgage interest and charitable contributions.
o Lower top marginal income rates from 35 percent to 25 percent.
o Simplify the tax code to include only two other brackets, 15 and 10 percent.
o Lower corporate tax rate as well, from 35 percent to 25 percent.
Every provision would mostly help the rich (except the child tax credit), even though the current recession was caused in large part by massive tax cuts for the rich. As President Obama said,
Those ideas have been tested, and they have failed. They have taken us from surpluses to an annual deficit of over a trillion dollars. And they have brought our economy to a halt.
Still, all but 5 Republicans voted for the DeMint amendment, proving Republicans have no intention of bipartisanship. As John Cole says (h/t Digby),
I really don’t understand how bipartisanship is ever going to work when one of the parties is insane. Imagine trying to negotiate an agreement on dinner plans with your date, and you suggest Italian and she states her preference would be a meal of tire rims and anthrax. If you can figure out a way to split the difference there and find a meal you will both enjoy, you can probably figure out how bipartisanship is going to work the next few years.
Update 1: Paul Krugman writes,
Thirty-six out of 41 Republican Senators voted for the proposed DeMint amendment to the stimulus bill — a massive package of permanent tax cuts that would create a huge hole in the budget, while doing very little to help the economy.
There isn’t much room for bipartisanship when 87.8% of the other party is totally irresponsible.

Stimulous
All the Limbaugh / Hannity ' followers; are flooding their Reps in Congress-with calls- saying NOT TO SUPPORT THIS BILL .We need to do the same asap. All the GOP ever talks about is tax cuts. We need this money for job creation-infrastructure- - new technology - whatever will help America.We won and we won decisively- we need to act like it. The Hard Line GOP responds only to one thing, strength ! The Reagan / Bush policies of Deregulation- trickle down - greed - Wall St bankers having no rules along with REagn- then Bush's massive tax breaks for corporate America-have led us directly to this current crisis.
DEM v GOP
Obama has intelligence and class .He has wined and dined the GOP. It did not work. Time to act like we've won. The GOP wants Obama and his bill to fail - SO THEY CAN REGAIN POWER ! It's that simple.
