Primary Against Nick Lampson (TX-22)

EVENTS

VENUE:

10701 Corporate Drive
Stafford, TX 77477

starts: 09/09/2008 - 12:00am

On 5/10/07, Rep. Nick Lampson betrayed the voters and troops of Texas's 22nd Congressional District by voting to continue George Bush's disastrous Iraq War forever.

Democrats.com is looking for an "aggressive progressive" Democrat who will challenge Lampson in a Democratic primary in 2008.

Read our Candidate Guide.

Leave Nick Lampson alone!

Nick Lampson barely managed to win the 22nd District that had been vacated by Tom DeLay.  As one might easily guess of a District represented by Tom DeLay, it's one of the most conservative in the state.  A number of factors worked in Lampson's favor, but he'll not have any of those in the '08 race, and I believe it unlikely that a Democrat, even a conservative one, will be able to hold onto the seat.  Have you looked at Lampson's record?  Despite this vote, it's fairly impressive.  On the off-chance that he might be able to win re-election, he doesn't need a challenger in the primaries.  Your attempt to put up a progressive against him will guarantee the Republicans reclaiming the District.  Working on the Nader-factor as you are is shameful.  I hope you've studied your plan of action a little more carefully in other Districts!

I just replied to the e-mail

I just replied to the e-mail I received on this topic. It absolutely sickened me.

With friends like this, we'll see a Republican in the White House in 2009 and Republicans in charge of the U.S. House and Senate again.

You'd think we were already in charge of everything with a solid hold. Not like we have anything more important to do than fight among ourselves.

Nothing like people who don't even live in the district deciding the Democrat there isn't Democrat enough for them.

I grew up in Lampson's district (Santa Fe) and I worked on his campaign and in his Congressional office (back when it was TX-09). I know what the district is like. Not every district is lucky enough to be like OR-03 (quite the liberal district), which is where I live now. We have to have a variety of different kinds of Democrats if we want to win in districts that aren't heavily Democratic.

But some people just don't see it that way.

even Lampson's district

opposes the endless occupation of Iraq.

2/3 of all voters want to bring our troops home by March 2008.

if Lampson wants to avoid a primary, all he has to do is vote to end the occupation.

Nick Lampson is worse than a Republican

I don't see a difference between a Democrat that votes for warrantless wiretaps and the Iraq war and a Republican with the same voting record.  So, another Democratic candidate in the primary, brings the chance for a positive voice from District 22 from none to, at least, finite.

Nick Lampson and his bluedog Democrats are hurting the Democratic Party and what it stands for.  Their votes prevent the Democrats from ending the war and from fighting attacks on our constitution.  Thus, folks (with encouragement by the press) start to think what the heck good are all these Democrats anyway, and this lack of enthusiasm helps Republicans win back seats.

Nick Lampson's dismal record

Lampson is my congressman and 'till today I didn't know he had such an appaling record.

I'll ask those others who say we should let Lampson keep voting Republican while portraying himself as a Democrat:
MAKE YOUR CASE.

Why should we support such an asshole?

Is it because being a "Democrat" he'll be counted as one when deciding who will control the agenda in the congress? May be you got a case, but I wanna see more reasons.

I'm disgusted 80 so-called Democrats are voting for a bill to protect criminals like Bush and the Telecoms who helped him to brake the law.
AS LONG AS THERE IS IMPUNITY WE WILL NEVER SEE JUSTICE!!!!

Many of those 80 "Democrats" voted AGAINST the same bill a month ago, so why did they change their vote? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
did they get any enticements????
If this is the way those supporters of Lampson want to live in this country, while thinking they still live in a democracy, freedom, justice? They are dreaming.

There is only so much you can "negotiate" in a democracy until the point comes when you have already lost all your principles.

You already lost what you claim you were fighting for.

Nick is a TRAITOR

I live in Nicks district in Santa Fe. I worked on his campaign doing phone banks, putting up signs in the pouring down rain. door to door canvassing, etc. I thought he was the man to back. I have followed his voting record closely. I am ashamed to say I made a big mistake. This man needs to go back to his Tax Assessor-Collector job in Beaumont were he came from. He's just another hog at the trough. He has sold out his integrity for votes. I'll not vote for him again and in fact will encourage my union to no longer support him. He is a traitor in my book. I hang my head thinking I voted for him.
