Presidential Primary Poll: April 2007
The 1st Quarter fundraising results are in, and Obama's results are amazing given that Hillary and Bill Clinton have built their national fundraising network over 20 years, while Obama built his overnight. And while Clinton slightly outraised Obama in dollars, Obama had twice as many donors. But John Edwards also did extremely well - all three candidates broke the previous Democratic record.
| Q1 | Net | Donors | |
| Clinton | $26M | $4.2M | 50,000 |
| Obama | $25M | $6.9M | 100,000 |
| Edwards | $14M | $3.3M | 40,000 |
| Richardson | $6M | ||
| Dodd | $4M | ||
| Biden | $3M |
But money doesn't elect Presidents, voters elect Presidents. So looking at announced candidates only (sorry Gore fans!), who do you want to be the Democratic nominee in 2008?
This is an Instant Runoff Vote (explained here), so rank you choices in order. If no candidate gets a majority in the first round, the losing candidate's votes are re-allocated to their second-place choices, and so on until someone gets a majority and a winner is declared.
The table below shows you the number of first place votes for each candidate in each round until one candidate emerged with a majority in the Final round.
- John Edwards (66.6%)
- Dennis Kucinich
- Barack Obama
- Hillary Clinton
- Bill Richardson
- Joe Biden
- Mike Gravel
- Chris Dodd

He's capable to Bark with the Big Dogs
I'm so proud of the americans who have kept up with Obama in his campaign and supported him financially. He is great. The American People have the chance to see a leader long overdue, take this country down the people's track, not just the corporations.
Go Obama, go America! The winds of great change are blowing on the dry bones.

Obama?
I'm not impressed at all with Obama. I have made a concensious effort to keep up with his campaign. What am I missing that makes Obama your candidate? Why is he great: Issues and plans only. Each answer, I find evasive; what is his plan? Thanks!
What's so great about Obama?
Where does he stand??? Go to http://www.barackobama.com/ and join us! I love Hillary as you do, but we need a fresh perspective and Barack has that!
"Fresh Perspective"
A "fresh perspective" is not an answer to a question about the man's positions, it's a sidestep.
What I know is that he's undermining the underpinnings of Brown v Board of Education. He's not alone in that among the Dem candidates -- all but Kucinich are doing it -- but, as an African-American, his shirking of the responsibility to safeguard that decision is especially troubling.
Brown v Board of Education?
What is Brown v Board of Education about?
You must be joking
Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas was THE decision that declared unequivocally that segregation was illegal.
Have you ever hard of Rosa Parks? (No connection, just wondering...)
No I am not joking - what
No I am not joking - what makes you think that? Why the arrogance? A lot of people learn from discussion here. Not everybody knows everything all the time.
Assumptions
1) That because you haven't heard of the most famous US Supreme Court case in history, I'm arrogant - wrong, insulting, and completely unnecessary.
2) If you really don't know what it is, google it.
You're just being a troll.
You're just being a troll. You picked me - it makes me wonder the motive.
Troll?
I'll take that as a compliment, since I have no idea what it means, and I know you wouldn't go around insulting people whom you don't know and who happen to agree with you (at least about Obama).
I "picked" you because in browsing the comments, I noticed what started all of this - Brown v. Board of Education. That's all.
Don't take it so personally - I don't know you well enough to be personal. Let's agree on Obama and fish around for better things to disagree on.

Brown vs Board 1954 Inequality of education in schools
This case ws the leading factor to the desegregation of schools. It showed through physical examination the black childs preferance for white dolls and how he viewed all successes as only white. All good things are white syndrome. The black children chose over 80 or 90% the white doll with straight blonde hair.
The world they were to participate in didn't value them as people. The courts ruled to give us the chance to change that perspective where they would learn to love their people too. That's the importance in our society, we have to see people like us to function as a whole for progress. EXAMPLE; You are a child under ten, at you impressionable years. If all you see are black leaders and mentors, presidents, business leaders, would you listen to a poor white, who had nothing, house, clothes, shoes, suits, cars, finance. This allowed us equal access to education with educated teachers, and although we bore the brunt from the 50's until 1965, when the marches started, it is still just as important today to have like mentors to communicate to our youth in times of trouble to straighten them out.
Since 1977, the laws on diciplining our children were taken away because a few,(screwed up apples took dicipline to mean only arse kicking and took it to the extremes. When the child was taken from the home and placed in a foster care home and it happened then too, the government took it upon themselves, to eliminate all physical punishment from parents of poor children. Maybe they thought, children could guide themselves, while no parent was in the home. It's just caboodle of shit, that destroys families. Instead of getting that parent help from the stress of struggle day to day finances, they turn undiciplined kids into the streets, for the court system to lock up when they don't have the answers needed to control themselves under pressure. (Virginia Tech)
It proved itself again, in the sixties and seventies when over 900 African American citizens, after getting severly weary of oppression and racism, followed a REV Jim Jones to Ghana, in hopes of living a respected life away from racism. (Messiah Complex)
Well, he was on LSD and those who didn't voluntarily take a poison were forced to do so. They ran from the problems of oppression and racism to live in peace, in Heaven. duh! The only ones living in the land of milk and honey now are the rich. Our freedom is our heaven, you can't take that away from us. We will fight to the death for it.
Anyway, the Jim Jones thing really worked at our nerves. Searching for a white messiah because he had the money nad power to lead you down the path of suicide and hell. See what I mean.
It's a horrible story.
Check it out , they had it on three days ago on documentary channel at 11pm.
I relived it and cried at the pleading for justice in America. This happened after the Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, and Bobby Kennedy Assassinations, all in the 60's.
America's Real Shock and Awe, of hopelessness. I hope I have been of some help to give you some insight. Some people don't realize we all didn't live through it as it unfolded. I am 47, that puts me right there in the mix and is why we started the Black Panthers to keep these dope headed false profits from leading our elderly and young down the wrong path, right under our noses. It turned black people from churches lead by white preachers. One bad apple can spoil a whole bunch.
We have one bad apple in the White House now. Let's prevent the next catastrophie.

What's so great about Obama
I find that when I think of my ideal America, the first thought that comes to mind is an awakened and engaded community actively deciding the vision and direction of the nation.
What is so great about Obama is that he has challenged a hungry population to live up the obligation of citizenship and they have responded.
What is so great about Obama is that he has recognized that he is merely a focal point for a power unstoppable when moved toward a common goal, a determined American will, and challenges each and every (red/blue) one of us to listen to each other and remember that we all want the same things.
What is so great about Obama is that he dosen't come with prepackeged ideas that we must choose to accept, rather he reminds us that in a country of over 300 million blessed souls no one voice is right, we must all take a hand in building our future if we are to have a future at all.
What is so good about Obama is that he motivates people who never thought about politics want to learn about politics. Not just the high drama stuff but universal health care, alternative energy and education equity.
He has stated over and over that his plan is to dare you to decide for yourself what the plan should be.
All very noble words and
All very noble words and ideals, but not worth two cents unless the Congress is divorced from neoconservative corporate influence. One man, or woman, however charismatic and well-intentioned, can not turn the Ship of State alone.
The problem is not who will be president, but rather who will our Congress represent: corporate masters who provide their campaign financing in return for "pork," or the People of the USA?
It makes little difference who occupies the office of POTUS, unless the corruption is removed from the real seats of power in Washington -- the House and the Senate. The neoconservatives of the self-appointed Democratic "Leadership" Council," and their counterparts in the Rovian Republican cabal must be removed and replaced before any meaningful change can occur in our government.
Noble words
Should Senator Obama win the Presidency it will be because the ground swell of grassroots efforts all over the country will place him there. Simply because of his percieved negatives by the establishment (convention wisdom), that kind of mandate is self evident. The message "We want CHANGE, and we want it NOW!!"
That kind of powerful message unheeded by congressman/women of any stripe, like 2006, is a death blow. It makes ALL the difference who holds the office of POTUS!!
The Executive Branch and the
The Executive Branch and the POTUS are at the mercy of the Congress, and this has been proven time and time again. As long as the neocons are in charge of Party policy and corporate money-laundering, the POTUS can only suggest change, but not demand it. The president has no power to enact campaign law reform, to mandate term limits, or in any fashion, separate the Congressional neocons from their corporate pimps.
The POTUS is virtually powerless without Congressional support, and becomes very dangerous with total partisan support and lack of oversight. The Congress was Constitutionally designed to be the voice of the People, and NOT the current, temporary, POTUS. The Congress and the SCOTUS are institutions, while the Executive Branch is nothing more than temporary hired help.
And lastly, we Democrats are working very hard to clean up our side of the street. What are "Independents," Republicans, and Third-Parties doing besides whining and embracing apathy while waiting for a "savior" to come to their rescue? Constitutional integrity and American values can not be restored from the top down -- they must be pushed from the bottom up.
Too true Bill...
...and I'd almost rather get rid of the Joe Liebermans in Congress than have my personal choice for president be picked. My hope is, that we can at least elect a democratic president that will help us do that, so my own decision about who to support as a presidential candidate must take that into account. Obviously that lets Hillary out totally. It removes Obama from the list too. In fact, it gets down to Edwards for me every time I reacess the situation. I believe that he would be the most helpful to our party, and the most influential in Congress.
"He has stated over and over
"He has stated over and over that his plan is to dare you to decide for yourself what the plan should be."
This sounds a bit abstract. Of course we all have to have a hand in figuring out what direction to go in but the point is we need a leader to guide us there. The leader will set the agenda for the country by listening to the people's wishes. Does Obama have the experience to guide the country after listening to the people. Listening to 300 million people is a big job. If Obama motivates young people, that is a good thing. But health care, alternative energy, education, etc. are not just "high drama stuff". Those are real issues for those 300 million people.
Obama
I am somehow on a right-wing "news" blog called NewsMax. They've written articles that seem to support Obama. That scares me into thinking he's not all that good. He may be dipping into the same corporate pockets as Hillary.
Bet on it...
Bet on it...
Except Obama was against
Except Obama was against this war from the very beginning and he will bring our troops home, Hillary has no chance this time, she's a war mongerer.
I'm waiting for Wesley Clark to run.
Except Obama was against, except he voted for
Every time, he has voted FOR money to continue the "war", and AGAINST bringing the troops home.
What kind of opposition is that???
Obama voted twice last year against bringing troops home
Last year, Obama voted against two separate amendments to bring the troops home. He also voted to commend the bombing of a villiage that killed lots of civilians. And he loves to vote for funds to continue the war. One of his biggest backers is General Dynamics, a war profiteer. He has had 22 major votes in support of the war. How do 22 votes in support of war make one opposed to the war?
He says one thing and does another. He is well known for that.
Did anyone here happen to notice what he did to his four Democratic competitors in the race for state senate or to his Democratic competitor in the race for U.S. Senate? If I told you, it would probably be deleted. However, if I were a Democratic candidate, I'd be concerned. So, I recommend you do the research yourselves.
LOOK! Stick with the FACTS, as per the ACTUAL VOTING RECORD
of Barack Obama,
see below.

Any more misrepresentations, false accusations, and
hearsay will be deleted.
I have not deleted anything yet, but I will if this blarney continues.
As Bill has also stated, it violates the rules of this site.
Thanks Kwahlf for the WP link...sort of blows the fantasy...
espoused by a couple of posters out the window.
Clear back to 2005, looks like Obama voted pretty much the way the Dem party needed to have him vote.
As for his 22 votes for the war, what utter nonsense. Some of you guys need to do some serious reading and catch up with reality.

You're welcome, Grinch.
I'm trying to stick with the facts, since they have been very distorted
here, lately.
WaPo may lean to the right, but they will post an acurate voting record
of a candidate. Unlike all the untruths that have been posted about various
candidates, except Dennis Kucinich, WaPo got the record right.
Facts speak for themselves.
Just the facts.
Rather than a pro-war Republican site (like the Washington Post), I prefer Thomas, the official Library of Congress Site.
This news article written by a team of liberal youth scholars, some of which started college at 9, contains a breakdown of the votes from Thomas. I prefer links so I don't have to post things so long. I'm just posting the part of their news article that is relevant.
And four times yesterday I posted just links and all four postings of just links were deleted by someone, not Bob. I don't know who. This year, he as voted additional times for the war. There are a couple of votes for this year the article misses. It only lists 20 war votes.

Below is Obama's 2005 and 2006 voting record. This was collected by a national liberal Democratic organizaion. The news team at Creative Youth has thoroughly checked it out in Thomas.loc.gov and found it to be completely accurate. Get out your vomit bags and see who Obama is and what he really stands for.
Edit- the readers can click on the link.
This "record" is not his actual voting record.

Kerry voted for war - Obama didn't
You vote for war once - and that's to initiate it. Only one vote counted.
Here is what I read on Obama's website:
This kind of realism has been missing since the very conception of this war, and it is what led me to publicly oppose it in 2002. The notion that Iraq would quickly and easily become a bulwark of flourishing democracy in the Middle East was not a plan for victory, but an ideological fantasy. I said then and believe now that Saddam Hussein was a ruthless dictator who craved weapons of mass destruction but posed no imminent threat to the United States; that a war in Iraq would harm, not help, our efforts to defeat al Qaeda and finish the job in Afghanistan; and that an invasion would require an occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences.
http://obama.senate.gov/speech/061120-a_way_forward_in_iraq/index.html
Obama didn't vote for war. If he had voted for it, he would have been in a very long line of democrats who were leading the charge. How did Kerry vote? Oh, yeah...he voted yes, didn't he?
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=107&session=2&vote=00237#position
Why yes. Yes he did. I don't care for Obama. AAMOF, I don't have a dog in this hunt. It's just that I have a strong distaste for spin. It wasn't Obama who voted for it. It was your guy.

Kery won: Hate to point this out to you...
but kids who start college at 9 are still just 9 years old. Very smart 9 year olds to be sure, but still naive and inexperienced.
The WP article, which we all know to be biased toward the right, still managed to cite the actual voting record and not your imaginary one dreamed up by kids still very wet behind the ears.
Just one example of many: Obama clearly voted against the border fence bill.
Some of the bills Obama voted against--were also voted down by many members of both parties. That was a Repugnant Congress at the time. Some of the things he voted for were the same.
Is Obama perfect? No. Has he the basic qualifications for the presidential job: Yes. Has he a chance of being elected: Yes. Can he obtain funding to make a good run: Yes.
One thing you have not done, is to compare Obama's votes with the votes of the other candidates on the various issues. You have not shown why he voted this way or that...yet you continue to slam him for his votes.
The WP, whatever you think of them, would not falsify an actual voting record since it is so easy to challenge them on such activity.
Have you personally read the bills he voted for or against? I doubt it.
We are willing to accept that Obama is not your candidate. For the record, he isn't mine either. But that is besides the point isn't it.
If you want an honest candidate who is pure as the 'driven snow,' you are in the wrong country.
You really love to quote bright 16 years olds who were only 9 when Bush came to power.
Is there anything that Obama has done that you think has been good?

Clearly the young know more about politics than most adults
This goes to the question of who should have the vote and who shouldn't. Do you know that thousands of kids are taking college classes before they reach Jr. High age?
The level of skill of the articles at Creative Youth and at the National Youth Rights Association websites are phenomenal. The trouble is that the vote is age based and not intelligence based. Most young Americans are coming to the conclusion that the voting age should be eliminated and a national intelligence or knowledge test instituted for voting. Most people in both parties would wind up on the sidelines while their kids voted.
It's a shame they don't vote.
Isn't it?

Grinch, it's obvious that
Grinch, it's obvious that Kerry Won will not listen to reason, or give anyone a chance to point out the obvious half-truths and innuendo in her diatribes. As with most zealots who are only focused on a single issue, she has no time for "nuance" or different shades of gray.
Her posts on this, and other forums, are a monotonous repetition of the same theme: vote for MY pick, and I will not support any other Democrat. She also touts a Libertarian, Ron Paul on other forums, so that should give you a clue as to her real political leanings. She professes to be a long-time Democratic "insider," but that claim should be taken with a grain of salt.
The nomination is about so much more than a single issue, and the selection of a candidate with a well-rounded agenda would be preferable. Personally, I don't care who is elected to the office of POTUS -- it's the makeup of the Congress that I am concerned with.
Democracy
Democracy is what you are describing here, the root of the name of our Party. It is about time we return to our roots, but in order for it to work, we need to get out and VOTE. I for one, will be voting for Obama.
Obama can't win
I like Ralph Nader but I wouldn't waste my vote on him. Who are you kidding? No minority, no woman can be elected president in this country. We're going to lose the 08 election with this craziness. This country is 70% white. Why would you expect a black to be elected president? If the country were 70% hispanic wouldn't you expect a hispanic to be elected president. I know of no country where a member of a minority group is elected to the top spot. It won't happen here either, not with a 70% majority. You keep dreaming and the repubs will win the white house again.
Hi gcee, Please wake up.
Hi gcee,
Please wake up. You're dreaming. This election is far too critical for that.
Obama nor Hillary can possibly win the general election. Obama hasn't a chance at getting
the nomination. We need a nominee who can win in the general.
Impressed with Obama
Read his book "The Audacity of Hope". If it doesn't move you and give you hope...you must be dead.
Look at his record. If it
Look at his record. If it doesn't wake you up you must be dead! :-)
Obama
He is a great man who has given his life to further the rights of all Americans. He wants to see this country united again. He has vision. He is not after money (yes for the campaign, but not personal). He wants healthcare and education for all. He is not tainted or tempted by the lobbyists. He will be just. He sees the big picture. He's not like any other politician I have ever seen. He is everything I aspire to be!!!!
GRAND IDEA for the chewing of the right wingers
OBAMA & CLINTON make a pack.. that if either of them take the win in the primaries.. that they will pick the other to be the VP! this will take the wind out of the GROPER GOPer SAIL .. of turing the Democratic candidates into cannibals during the debates.. they are counting on us to burn each other as they did Dr Dean during the NH & IOWA debates. REMEMBER & LEARN!!!!!!!! and don't forget the phone jamming & the crossover gop voters who will never vote on our election when the time comes so they will pick the candidate for us .. the one that they can smear the best.
we must be on the OFFENSE not defense .. let's not let them put us in the corner of eating each other again!!!!!!!!!!!!
damn will we ever learn. THEY MARCH IN LOCK STEP. we can always get in and force the DEMOCRATIC PARTY LEFT LEFT from within.. duh! people a 3rd party isn't in the cards but we can take over the Democratic hard right wing like the neocons ripped off the moderate republican party.
GIVE IT A CHANCE.. work in lock step.. vote even if you have to hold your nose.. and then hold their feet to the fire.. we are the people .. they work for us.. once we win a trifecta.. we can have the power of the purse... and not let bush have his fake death like ken lay and other infamous deaths.. where no body is shown.. just a picture and all is forgotten.. except for all the poor souls who lost their life savings .. at ENRON.. while Ken lives out the rest of his natural life in some far a way island .. where all the rich crooks go after their FAKE DEATH..
good night and good luck..
chil420
oh my God
hi chil420,
my worse nightmare. Hillary and Obama on the same ticket. The republicans would be thrilled. Either one of these two on a ticket with anybody will assure a republican win ---- AGAIN!!!!! Is that what you want? Are the repubs putting you up to this? The top two dem contenders are people any two men the repubs run, and they will be two white men, would soundly defeat.
Obama can't win the nomination. If Hillary gets it, we're done. And I'm done with this party.
Great candidates but who will America vote for?
Personally, I think we have three outstanding people running for the presidential primary. I just worry about who the masses in this great country will vote for, cross over for, etc. Hillary is the most qualified but so many people seem to hate her just because she is a strong, independent, smart woman in a leadership position. I have met her, heard her speak live on three occassions, and I love what she stands for. ( I am an upstate NY Democrat, though!) Obama is also great and has the vision and energy I love. But I still think John Edwards is best suited to actually win the White House. I LOVE a person who comes from a working class family, works hard and makes it in this country! He should have been our VP already! The fact that people are putting him down because his wife has Cancer is outrageous. I would like to see a Edwards ticket with Hillary or Barak as VP. I LOVE that a woman might make history in my lifetime but I worry about another four years under the current climate if we as a party are not careful. Gosh, I miss Bill Clinton! I'd like to see him back there again too!
Hillary Clinton
While I would love to see a woman President, the reason I am not overly fond of Hillary Clinton is that she only recently started speaking out against the war in Iraq. Given that the war is the overriding issue nowadays (I think so anyway), we need a presidential candidate who has been consistently and forcefully AGAINST the war!
great candidates but who will America vote for
There are more than 3 candidates. I attended MoveOn's virtual townhall last night. Only one of the 8 candidates who participated did not equivocate on the question of getting out of Iraq and to whom the Iraqi oil belongs. Only one talked about the Israeli/Palestinian conflicts that so strongly affect US policy in the Middle East. That was Dennis Kucinich. Everyone says, "Oh, he's not a real candidate." I ask them why. They can't answer. It is because they believe what they hear from the media. The media brainwash people into believing that the only honest candidate who is not influenced and paid off by AIPAC (Hillary is so beholden to AIPAC that she's practically like a neo-con in that respect), is not a "viable candidate." Wake up, folks. There's is only one candidate calling for impeachment. That's Dennis Kucinich.
Integrity and foresight
Personally, I'm disgusted with Clinton, Obama, and Edwards. They are all war mongers ready to attack Iran. From my perspective, they might as well be on the Republican ticket. The only candidate I see with real guts is Dennis Kucinich. Here is the ideal Progressive Democrat. End the War Now- HR1234, Impeach Cheney HR333, Health care for all through Medicare with no insurance companies swallowing 1/3 the cost of health care (sorry I forgot the #) College Education for your kids, end NAFTA to put all workers on even footing=more jobs for US workers, WGA jobs rebuilding our country/environment and healthcare. Dept of Peace for Diplomacy instead of War. This guy has concrete plans for our country, not Smoke and BS like the above mentioned candidates or any others for that matter, who were all (I believe) sucking up to the AIPAC for $$$$. Sorry but I'm disgusted. I'm going to vote for Kucinich or no one because I'm sick of voting for the "Lesser of 2 Evils" just because the media says they "can win" That's how our country got in this sickening mess. We need campaign reform so honest people CAN WIN. Kucinich comes with "No Strings Attached" If you want a real Progressive candidate, send him a contribution because the rest of them are already bought and paid for by the Corporations, Insurance Companies and "Outside Interests".
Edwards, Obama, ?Clinton
I miss Bill too, but I'm not sure if Hilary has all that it takes. I'm a woman, but that's not a reason for me to vote for a woman and not even to make history. (The crook we have now is making history too.) I really like so many of the candidates. I listened to most of the program on C-span when they introduced themselves. Edwards really seems down-to-earth. Barrack too and I think they hate the war as much as I do. I don't understand why so many people voted for the war while so many told them not to. If I was in the know all of our Senators and Congress people should have been too.
Oh, I believe that many of
Oh, I believe that many of the Senators and Representatives knew full well what was going on when they voted to authorize Dubya to begin his phony "war on terror," and illegally invade Iraq. PNAC and the leading DLCer of the time, Joe Lieberman, had already spelled it out, and published it for everyone to read.
The main difference between what "we" knew, and what "they" knew, was that Halliburton, Lockheed-Martin, and the other corporate war profiteers, would cut off the DLC's campaign funding if they didn't vote with the neocons.
As with almost every political travesty in this nation's history, all you need to do is follow the money. Blood-soaked oil and war machine money pouring into campaign coffers can buy a lot of "looking the other way," and tainted votes.
