Social Security has successfully kept generations of older Americans out of poverty. Due to Social Security tax increases under Ronald Reagan, it is fully funded through 2047. There is absolutely no reason to raise the retirement age or cut benefits.

If Congress wants to cut spending, it should bring our troops home from Iraq, close some of our 800 overseas bases, and cancel some enormously expensive weapons programs. In addition, Congress should eliminate huge tax loopholes for corporations and the rich.

In addition, Congress should try to find the hundreds of billions that were stolen during the Bush-Cheney Administration.
