No More Funds for Iraq
George Bush is bullying Congress to give him $102 billion more to continue the disastrous occupation of Iraq into 2009 and beyond. Bush's Iraq disaster has already cost American families the loss of 4,000 soldiers and cost American taxpayers $562 billion, and could cost $3 trillion if it continues. The occupation of Iraq has greatly increased Al Qaeda terrorism worldwide, devastated the morale of American troops through repeated deployments and lowered recruiting standards, increased oil prices to $110 per barrel, and pushed the U.S. economy into a recession. George Bush is defying the will of the American people, who elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 to end the occupation. Polls consistently show over 60% of Americans disapprove of the occupation, and over 70% of Iraqis want us to leave. If Bush rejects all Democratic plans to bring our troops home, Congress must simply refuse to provide any more funds. Of course we don't want our troops to be endangered in any way, so it would be George Bush's duty as Commander-in-Chief to use existing funds to bring our troops home in a safe and orderly fashion. And if George Bush steals funds from other important programs to keep our troops in Iraq indefinitely, or delays their withdrawal and leaves them exposed to unnecessary harm, it will be the duty of Congress to impeach him immediately. Petition InstructionsThank you for taking a stand on this important issue! Our petition system (created by The People's Email Network) will deliver the message on the left directly to your two U.S. Senators and one Representative, and you will see their names after you press submit. We request your address so (a) we can identify your Representatives; (b) your Representatives can verify that you live in their district; (c) your Representatives can send you a reply. If you are a U.S. citizen living abroad, use your U.S. voting address (usually your last U.S. address even if you no longer get mail there.) Sections (2) and (3) are purely optional. We hope you'll use (3) to tell your friends because the more people who sign our petitions, the more Congress will listen to us. You should expect a reply from your Representatives by email or snail mail. If you do not, call their office at 202-225-3121 and ask why they have not responded to your constituent email.
