Around 9:30 a.m., MSNBC's Contessa Brewer hosted a mini-debate over Pat Leahy's proposed "Truth Commission" between Republican rightwinger Pat Buchanan and Democratic centrist Tad Devine.

Buchanan was, as always, full of sound and fury, insisting a non-partisan Truth Commission would bitterly divide the country along partisan lines.

Buchanan is, as always, completely full of shit. A majority of Republicans (52%-43%) support an investigation of the partisan Republican firing of U.S. attorneys. Near-majorities of Republicans support investigations of torture (44%-54%) and wiretaps (41%-56%). In addition, large majorities of independents support all three investigations.

So the country is largely united behind investigating Bush's crimes. The only divisions are among those who spent the last 8 years on TV - like Pat Buchanan - or in Congress cheerleading for those crimes.
