Obama's Grandmother Dies One Day Too Soon

Sadly, Madelyn Dunham didn't get to watch her grandson make history. From Barack Obama and his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng:

It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.

Our family wants to thank all of those who sent flowers, cards, well-wishes, and prayers during this difficult time. It brought our grandmother and us great comfort. Our grandmother was a private woman, and we will respect her wish for a small private ceremony to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to any worthy organization in search of a cure for cancer.

RIP.

Obama's Grandmother & Moses - A Poetic Symmetry

I keep envisioning this beautiful historical symmetry:

Moses sheperding his people to within eyesight of the promised land and dying before having the pleasure of setting foot upon it, and Obama's Grandmother guiding her grandson up to last hours of this election and passing away just as we begin our historic crossing over to a new America.

I think/hope perhaps Madelyn Dunham was exhausted and at peace after seeing the promised land her grandson has led us to, and thus was able to release her grip on this world.

Remember her name.

"I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither."
- Deuteronomy 34:4

I like the analogy, Blue Planet.

She had taken him so far, and knew he was destined
to lead us.

As Obama said, " she's gone home".

Thank you.
