The incident in London last week has given Republicans their last hope of driving all America into becoming a fearful cowering nation that looks to them for protection. With the November elections on the horizon this is their plan to keep the House and Senate. They’re all taking their lead from the seven times deferred from the Vietnam War yellowbellied chicken hawk Dick Cheney. The reality of this plot to blow up passenger jets is that Bin Laden is still out there planning attacks. It is proof of the ineffectiveness of Bush’s war on terror. It is proof we are no safer now than before 9/11. It is proof Bush’s failure to capture or kill Bin Laden is a major strategic blunder. It is proof America needs new intelligent leadership in the War on Terror before another successful attack does occur.

I’m sitting in a hotel on the Ohio Indiana border after many hours in the saddle today battling disgusting CONservative talk show hosts. All over the airwaves in the Heartland the party of fear is using the London terrorist plot to rationalize the taking of our freedoms by the Bush Administration. The officials in London knew exactly whose phone to tap after being clued in by officials in Pakistan. Spencer Hughs, host of Fox Across America, totally distorted the way the case was broken by insinuating that NSA warrantless eavesdropping of random conversations led to the arrests of the terrorists. It was his way of legitimizing Bush’s wiretapping of our phones without a warrant. I don’t wonder anymore about how Hitler was able to take control of Germany! (Link to Audio)

CONservatives are also regurgitating the old Iraq - 9/11 connection argument. John Gibson, another Republican mouthpiece, joins the two and adds weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq! America is not buying the argument this year and people like John are viewed more and more as the lunatic fringe. (Link to Audio)

Republicans are jumping on the Lieberman bandwagon in the hope he wins in Connecticut. It seems they classify all the people that voted for Lamont as spineless in the ‘War on Terror’. The old ‘you’re not Patriotic’ unless you ‘stay the stupid Republican course in Iraq’ routine. The ‘Shake n Bake Democracy’ that is the Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, and Rice fantasy has cost over 2500 American and 100,000 Iraqi lives. It is clear Lieberman had the same dimwitted belief that Iraq was our path to some imagined national security. Never mind that Iraq had no part in 9/11. Brian and the Judge, another Fox prize, feel that Lamont’s victory was the equivalent of running up the white flag to Bin Ladin.(Link to Audio)

Ben Franklin was quite clear on the topic of liberty and security:

“They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security”

We must never follow the lead of weak frightened cowardly individuals. Republicans have kept our nation fearful for long enough and these people are so afraid they are ready to give up the Constitution at the first sign of a fight. Republicans would let Bin laden win by trampling our Constitution. Republicans are the party of fear led Bush and Cheney and who knows more about fear and cowardice than these two idiots. Bravo to Judge Anna Diggs Taylor for being brave enough to think of our nation and the Constitution and having the guts to defend both by ruling against warrantless wiretapping. I’m proud to know President Carter appointed her because a Republican would have been too cowardly to rule for the Constitution and against the Bush administration. After all what does 'Supporting the Troops' really mean!

I drove across a huge swath of the American Heartland on this trip from New York to Omaha, Nebraska with my 14 year old nephew. He is starting Jr. ROTC in ninth grade this year, (they are getting them young), and I wanted him to see a good piece of the nation. I asked him why he enrolled in ROTC and he had no idea other than wearing a uniform once a week. The school gives them credit for taking ROTC in lieu of Gym. As I listened to the news and CONservative talk radio I thought of him four years from now if we stay the stupid Republican course in Iraq. We’ve had a lot of fun on this trip and I can only imagine the feelings of anyone, American or Iraqi, who has lost their child.

P.S. The FISA Court allows tapping of communications as long as a warrant is gotten within 72 hours of the said tapping. This fact is totally ignored by all the CONsevative talking heads.
