Kentucky's Second Congressional District and Colonel Mike Weaver

Greetings fellow Democrats!!! As many of you know I worked on a primary that fell short in the First Congressional District of Kentucky. I still have remained committed to changing Kentucky's Congressional delegation however. Recently I posted about Ken Lucas from Kentucky's Fourth Congressional district, because he has been targeted by the DCCC's red to blue program. We have another candidate who also made the DCCC list, Col. Mike Weaver in the Second Congressional district. Now, I honestly believe we need new ideas and leadership to win this Congress. I would just like to fill you in on something Col. Weaver did to introduce himself to his constituents, and point out the failure of Ron Lewis in representing the people of his district against big oil. The Weaver camp set up at a Marathon station, had the price set back to $1.20 a gallon, and then his campaign paid the difference for the many drivers who lined up for just a little relief- relief our Congress refuses to provide!!!!!! Here is the text of the story from www.hillbillyreport.com, an awesome Democratic blog here in Kentucky:

Col. Mike weaver Exposes Failed Republican (Rubber Stamp Ron Lewis) Energy Policy. (See Photos)

The Hillbilly
Radcliff, Ky.
Dixie Food Mart
August 16, 2006
The Weaver campaign dropped gasoline prices to $1.20 a gallon, paid the difference and vehicles were lined up for blocks to take advantage of the low fuel price. This was a Mike Weaver event, but Ron Lewis people were also there. Jim Wiese Chairman of the Hardin County Republican Party was interviewed by a local TV station. The Ron Lewis people also shot video of Col. Mike Weaver being interviewed by a local TV station. The Ron Lewis people had better luck attending the Col. Mike Weaver event than I had attending the Ron Lewis event in Owensboro, when I was stopped by 5 police cars, held up by the Feds. and not allowed to get near The Most Reverend Rubber Stamp Ron Lewis. This tells me that Col. Mike Weaver is accessible and Rubber Stamp Ron is not. Noticeably missing at the event was Larry Ashlock, chairman of the Hardin County Democrat Party. Wonder if The Most Reverend, Rubber Stamp Ron Lewis will come out of the closet and debate Col. Mike Weaver?

Please go and check out the photos of grateful constituents recieving a break from a man who wants to be a REAL Congressman. Here is the link to the photos:

I think Col. Mike Weaver is an up and coming leader in the Democratic Party of Kentucky, and is an innovative campaigner!!! We need to look at this campaign and support Mike Weaver in his attempts to unseat Reverend Rubber-Stamp Ron Lewis!!!!! Here is a link to Col. Weaver's website, please visit and show your support for lower gas prices!!!!!

Best wishes to everyone working to change this Congress!!!!!

Looks like Wes knows like the rest of us in Kentucky, this seat is up for grabs, and Col. Mike Weaver is a Winner!!!!!

Check this out

I have talked on here before about helping State Senator Dr. Daniel Mongiardo in his bid to unseat "screwball" Jim Bunning in the 2004 election. Dr. Dan was recruited at the last moment because of a sex scandal involving our former Governor Paul Patton who was going to run against Bunning. Despite starting late, being heavily outspent, and having to endure vicious personal attacks, including being told he looked like "one of Saddam Hussein's sons", and an ad that called him a "Medicaid millionaire" because he was one of the only doctors in Eastern Kentucky who would take a poor person's medical card- at $17 a patient- and having a Lear jet shown in the ad he didn't even own. Despite all this, and the fact that at one time he trailed by over 20% in the polls Dr. Dan came within 1.7% of the vote from unseating Bunning. Here is the video of him giving his endorsement to Col. Mike Weaver in Kentucky's Second District.

Richard, Mike Weaver is the man to do the job.

I wish him great success in his run for Congress.

Thanks for the links. I especially like his speech on
alternative fuel sources.

;-)

I met

The fellow from hillbillyreport.com at a DFA training seminar in Elizabethtown, Ky. You talk about a dedicated Democrat, it is him. He had a huge Fire Ron Lewis sign in the back window of his pickup in January, before anyone even announced to run against him. He was extremely funny and was Democrat to the core. As far as Weaver goes, I am not affiliated with his campaign, but I like how he runs it. I decided to try and introduce him to some of the people on this site who may be interested. There are things some members of this site might not agree with him on, but overall he is a great candidate. I see him as a great chance to pick up a seat we desperately need. I am glad you liked his video, and that is one reason I like his campaign is that he makes things like that video available online. I plan on keeping everyone informed on this race.

Right on cue

We have an article on Comcast news that details this race, and the uphill battle that Col. Mike Weaver faces. Check it out:

More video

From Col. Weaver. Hey, I can tell you why this guy is a good candidate, but why not let you see and hear it from the man himself? This video was also shot on Labor Day and features Col. Weaver talking about the reaction to the lower gas prices his campaign gave for a day in Radcliffe, KY, reported on above in this node. Check it out:

I would like to say to Col. Weaver, No, thank you for running a tight race and giving us a chance to win this seat, and our Congress. We all know that Ron Lewis is tied up with the alcohol industry, so "Give em hell, Mike"!!!!!!!!

This Tells it All

Check out this resolution from the Kentucky House:

Upon his last day in session as a member of the House of Representatives, Commonwealth of Kentucky, Mike Weaver's colleagues in the General Assembly had one final item for business - to honor a " ... public servant and patriot."

A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of Representative John Michael "Mike" Weaver upon his retirement from this august body following nine years of dedicated service to the people of the Commonwealth, and a lifetime of patriotic service to his country.

WHEREAS, Mike Weaver was born in Livia, Kentucky, and grew up on a farm in rural Daviess County, just south of Owensboro. He left high school in 1956 to enlist in the United States Navy, beginning an outstanding military career that would span some three decades. After serving for three and a half years as a Navy electronic technician, Representative Weaver enlisted in the United States Army in 1961, completing Armor and Calvary assignments until his selection for Officer Candidate School in 1964. The following year, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and assigned to the 1st Calvary Division in Viet Nam in 1966, where he served as platoon leader. In 1969, he was reassigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Viet Nam where he was a Tank Company Commander and Troop Commander. While serving in that capacity, he was selected for a degree completion scholarship; and

WHEREAS, Mike Weaver received his undergraduate degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1972, and his master's degree four years later from the University of Missouri. Upon completion of his graduate studies, he was assigned to the Royal Armor School in Bovington, England, where he taught Soviet Studies for two years. Later, he commanded an Armor Battalion in Korea, followed by an assignment as the Deputy Brigade Commander for the 8th Army Special Troops Brigade. After more than 30 years of continuous active military service, this great Kentuckian retired from the Army as a Colonel in 1992; and

WHEREAS, following his military career, Mike Weaver successfully ran for the House of Representatives in 1996, and took office in January, 1997. As chair and ranking member of the Seniors, Military Affairs, Veterans Affairs, and Public Safety Committee, he has successfully sponsored more legislation expanding benefits for and the rights of America's veterans than has been enacted over many decades. He has also served on the Economic Development Committee; the Rules Committee; the State Government Committee; and the Transportation Committee. He has been the primary sponsor of military affairs and homeland security legislation, and has been a strong advocate for education reform, health care reform, and economic development initiatives. His devotion to family, faith, and freedom led him to help found the Commonwealth Democrats in 2004, to help preserve and protect the Commonwealth and the institution of the family; and

WHEREAS, for more than 45 years, Representative Weaver has been married to Lois Morris Weaver, who has been his companion, partner, and source of support throughout their life together, and they have been blessed with four daughters and eleven grandchildren. He has lived a life of honor, integrity, and service to his fellow citizens, leaving a lasting legacy to those who will follow in his footsteps. Throughout his military and legislative service, he has epitomized these words: "What do we mean by patriotism in the context of our times? [What] we mean is a sense of national responsibility. . . a patriotism which is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime";

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives salutes the Gentleman from Hardin 26 upon his retirement from this chamber, and extends to him our thanks for a lifetime of service to his country and his Commonwealth.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of John Michael "Mike" Weaver, public servant and patriot.

I don't think I can add much to that except that I think Americans really need men like Mike Weaver in the Congress. Evidently fellow legislators feel the same. This race could really turn out to be a huge pickup for our party. Please keep this race on your radar because we could pick up several seats right here in Kentucky!!!!

Weaver statement

Recently Congressman Ron Lewis of Kentucky's Second Congressional district has decided to cancel a fundraiser with House Speaker Dennis Hastert, because of his role in the page scandal. Here is Col. Mike Weaver's response:

"I find it interesting that Congressman Lewis is choosing to distance himself from a man he agrees with 97% of the time.

"If Congressman Lewis takes the Speaker at his word, which he says he does, then why is he canceling the fundraiser? If Congressman Lewis truly believes Speaker Hastert is telling the truth, then there should be no reason to believe the event would have negative political consequences and the fundraiser should proceed.

"However, if Congressman Lewis doubts the Speaker's honesty, I would ask him to join me in calling for his resignation along with the resignation of other members of the House who were aware of Foley's conduct and failed to act."

I think Col. Weaver hits the nail on the head. If Hastert has done nothing wrong, why cancel the fundraiser? With leads barely over the margin of error, Lewis needs all the help he can get. If Congressman Lewis indeed does know more about Hastert, enough to distance himself by canceling a fundraiser, why doesn't he join Col. Weaver, myself, millions of Democrats, and a growing number of Republicans calling for the House Speaker to resign?

Kentucky needs a real Congressman in the Second District!!!!!!! Col. Weaver is a man with conviction and common sense who knows how to lead. He would bring respectability to the House, which is desperately needed!!!!! Visit his site and wish him the best!!!!!!!

Duckin Duck Ron Lewis

Recently the Hardin County News Enterprise attempted to host host a debate between the candidates in Kentucky's Second Congressional District, hoping to give citizens a chance to get to meet the candidates as neighbors and ask questions. However, Congressman Ron Lewis evidently doesn't think meeting his constituents face to face and answering to their real concerns is worth his valuable time. He would rather use his big money war chest attained as an incumbent to smear a retired Colonel in thirty second attack ads.

Col. Mike Weaver has already served his country honorably in the military, and is a proven leader. He believes he should have to meet his constituents and answer to them and debate his opponent on the issues in their presence. Since Col. Mike Weaver showed up to debate, they decided to give him a chance to address the questions of the people attending. Check out the video, it is pretty good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPsP5EFhXgw

Note: Special effects added by the good hillbilly at www.hillbillyreport.com (an awesome and entertaining place to look into this race further)

I would just like to say that even though I am a district over in Kentucky and am not affiliated with this race that I really have a lot of respect for Col. Mike Weaver. He has served honorably in the military, and state government. He is truly a leader and a man of true integrity. He is trailing in the low single digits, and could still pull this race out. Please visit his site and help out in any way you can.

Best wishes to everyone who ARE changing this Congress!!!!!
