Laughable GOP Hypocrisy on Democratic VideoBy Bob Geiger In an act that would be as hysterical as Jack Abramoff lamenting the undue influence of lobbyists in Washington, the Republican party and their brain-dead shills in the right-wing blog world are all atwitter today over a video being run on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) web site. It seems those sensitive souls are upset over the fact that a tiny part of the video shows flag-draped coffins coming back from Iraq. The http://rnc.org " target="_blank">Republican National Committee (RNC) is aghast. "DEMOCRAT DISGRACE," screams their web site. "New DCCC Fundraising Ad Uses Images Of The Coffins Of Dead U.S. Soldiers." "It makes my stomach turn to see national Democrats so blatantly exploit the sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces," says National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chairman Tom Reynolds (R-NY). "Well, frankly, I think this is the most tasteless gesture I've seen in my time in politics," whines Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY). Wow. Where to start with this? To begin with, I guess the GOP figures they'll get more mileage out of this bogus controversy by labeling the DCCC's effort a "fundraising ad." But the fact is, in both the e-mail sent by the DCCC announcing the ad and on the organization's web site itself, donations are never overtly solicited in conjunction with the ad. The e-mail has a generic contribution link, that's at the bottom of all DCCC communications and the main message in the body of the e-mail is to "join our movement," not give money. Similarly, the page running the ad on the web site has boxes below to join the DCCC by providing e-mail address and zip code -- that's it. So there goes the money-for-coffins story line. And, while I'm sure all progressives join me in grieving for Reynolds' turned stomach and the traumatic shock experienced by Congressman Davis, it's a bit hard for us to take seriously given that this is the party that threw racist Willie Horton ads at Michael Dukakis, smeared the patriotism and sanity of their own John McCain and linked Vietnam Veteran -- and triple-amputee -- Max Cleland to Osama bin Laden to win his Senate seat. It's also the same group who more recently railroaded decorated-Veteran John Kerry in 2004 and are now trying to do the same thing to Congressman John Murtha, a highly-decorated Vet with 37 years in the Marine Corps. Yeah, you can see how this ad would offend their sensibilities. And speaking of that, the Wicked Witch of Monongahela, PA, Murtha opponent Diana Irey is also faking outrage and demanded in a press release yesterday that Murtha join the faux patriots in the GOP by "demanding that Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel apologize, and then insist that the DCCC forward any funds raised off this disgusting solicitation to appropriate charities.” I truly hope Irey holds her breath waiting for that to happen. My prediction: By the end of the summer, a desperate Irey will post a photo-shopped picture of John Murtha burning a flag with Osama bin Laden and demand that he apologize. Just a hunch. Let's get to what they really hate about this ad. From start to finish, it highlights what a miserable time this country has had under Republican leadership -- and, yes, the sad sight of dead Americans coming home from a worthless war is a legitimate part of that picture. As are corporations having free reign to pollute the environment, devastating gas prices, incompetent response to natural disasters and corruption in the White House. So there you have your Republican mock indignation of the day, from the same people who have used the 9/11 tragedy every day over the last five years for their own benefit. I guess when, like the folks at the RNC, you exist in a pool of slime every day, you automatically assume that everyone else is just like you. You can reach Bob Geiger at geiger.bob@gmail.com

I watched it
And I loved it!!!! They should run this ad on T.V. in all the battleground states!!!!! I wish they would run it here in Kentucky!!!
This Video speaks the truth.
This Video speaks the truth.
Ken Lucas
Is going to ad more "traumatic shock" to Davis's diet when he sends his butt packing in the fall!!!!!!
Check him out here:
http://www.weneedkenlucas.com/
He needs all the help he can get!!!!
There was one thing missing from that great filmclip ....
An Cartoon image of a Donkey kicking an Elephant down three flights of stairs...TO HELL WITH THE GOP AND THEIR COMMENTS!
Let's see if I have this straight
It's okay for them to show images of 9/11 and fetuses (Fetii?) to scare and disgust Ma Kettle down in Dog patch but if we point out the a significant number of America's best and bravest got fed into a sausage grinder and that more will die because they are to prideful to change a policy that clearly isn't working we're the bad guys?
Hey Tom Reynolds (R-NY)...Suck my D$@k!!!!
Never doubt that a small committed group of citizens can change the world - it's the ony thing that ever has !
I say let's make another video
showing the hypocracy of the republicans
I'd start out by showing the coffins and saying "So Democrats so blatantly exploit the sacrifices,(show them saying that on the video) while the republicans are so outraged by this, why would anyone exloit this, and show all the times they said Sept. 11th, and the war on terror. I'm sure someone could come up with a rebuttal video that would make the point.
DCCC video
A very moving video--hence the strong Republican response. How strange a group those diehard dopes are. Aren't those flag-covered coffins coming back here because of the decisions of Republican warhawks like Davis and Reynolds? Reality bites.
I honestly hope
They don't cave to pressure and pull it. It is an awesome ad, the best one we have come up with in a long time. As Pippilin so eloquently put it:
Reality Bites!!!!!!!!
I'm trying to understand their reasoning.
The Repub shills are outraged because the ad shows the coffins of our soldiers,
casualties of Bushie's oil wars.
The next clip shows a soldier, head bowed before the symbol of a fallen comrade.
This is disrespectful? How? Doesn't this honor the soldiers who continue to fight, deployed
over and over again? We grieve for the loss, their lives, their families and our country's loss.
These Repub shill buttheads will try anything to discredit us, won't they?
It won't work- the ad is terrific.
I refuse to believe that a vast majority of Americans will believe this crap.
We're smarter than that.
What's worse?
The swift-boating of John Murtha.
Their 'support the troops' rhetoric is just that - empty rhetoric.
They elect a dry-drunk draft-dodger, HIDE the images of the coffins (which is dishonoring to the soldiers in the first place) and then mouth off about people bringing it up?
Morally bankrupt.
OUT! OUT!!!!! OUT OF MY WHITE HOUSE!!!! RIGHT THE F--K NOW!!!!!!!!
And while we're discussing 'dishonor'
How about the 'Purple Heart Band-aids' seen prominently at the Republican Convention??
Spit on all the men and women who've been injured for their country??
Bet those 'band-aids' got a huge laugh in the amputee ward at Walter Reed.
Sorry, the level of just flat-out evil in the Republican 'party' is revolting.
I use that word for a purpose.
Has the ad been pulled?
Do you think it's possible that the DCCC pulled the ad? I went to their website and couldn't find it.
Unfortunately yes
Here is a link to the story. I really hope they were actually moving on to other things and not being spineless yet again. This was an awesome ad and there wasn't a damn thing wrong with it. The people who were offended NEED to be offended.
FINALLY SOME BACKBONE
This ad, or something equally as courageous, should have used in 2000, 2002, and especially 2004. When I heard the buzz about the ad and the response from the neo-fascists in the GOP I was encouraged that maybe the Dems are starting to show some spine. I hope that they do not back off but use this ad, and more like it, to let people know that there is some real, honest, grass roots outrage over the kidnapping without ransom of our Country.
Welcome to the site!!!!!
And I couldn't agree with you more!!!!! What, they are supposed to run any mud-slinging under the belt crap ad they want, and we can't even respond with the truth? I personally think it was a hard-hitting ad that painted a picture Americans need to see, and realize it is there. Awesome ad!!!
