Lieberman Calls 1 pm Press Conference

My sources say that Joe Lieberman's campaign has just called a press conference for 1pm today at the state capitol in Hartford CT. The word is that it will be a major announcement.

Is this the day that Lieberman finally -- formally -- leaves the Democratic party?

Update: From the Hartford Courant:

"Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman is to announce today he will petition for a place on the November ballot as an "independent Democrat," giving him a chance to stay alive politically should he lose an Aug. 8 primary for the Democratic nomination."
