It looks like Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) is going to get his wish to follow up his failed "Health Care Week" with "Wedge Issue June" as Senator Wayne Allard's (R-CO) "Marriage Protection Amendment" made it through the Senate Judiciary Committee today on a straight party line vote -- after which, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) left the room following a sharp exchange of words with Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA).

Allard's bigoted bill, which has a zero chance of passing the full Senate when it arrives for the June 5 date set by Frist, has 29 Republican cosponsors and says that "… marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman."

It also "prohibits the Constitution or any State constitution from being construed to require that marital status or its legal incidents be conferred upon any union other than that of a man and a woman."

The Associated Press reports that Feingold, a vocal opponent of the measure, got into a heated exchange with Specter after the vote.

"I don't need to be lectured by you. You are no more a protector of the Constitution than am I," said Specter after Feingold said he was leaving the meeting. "If you want to leave, good riddance."

Said Feingold: "I've enjoyed your lecture, too, Mr. Chairman. See ya."

Up next, look for Orrin Hatch's (R-UT), S.J.RES.12 -- also known as the "flag-burning amendment" -- to pass Committee and find its way to the Senate Floor in June as well. The Hatch amendment proposes to amend the U..S. Constitution "…to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States" and Frist has promised a roll-call vote on it as well.

With Frist trying to set the table with nonsensical issues for the midterm elections, it's gonna be a long, hot summer.

Allen Spector has been really "testy".
He appears to want all of the hearings
to be scripted according to his plans.
He is very much a solid right Republican,
but he wants the press to present him as
an open-minded person. He is not. He is
a Bush Republican.

In my 50 years of life, it's been my life's experience that those who strongly oppose gays are really repressed closet cases. I think the Repukican party is FULL of closet cases.

The entire Republican Party is a closet case. How many countless books, movies, journalistic pieces have appeared in the past 30 years in this country detailing and explaining that those who have their panties all up in a knot over homos are really homos themselves? And homos of the worst order, closeted, perverted, twisted from their self-loathing spewing their fear and hatred all over the rest of us, the Roy Cohns, the J. Edgar Hooovers the Karl Roves and of the world. (All the preachers are!) Hundreds, possibly thousands of such articles and movies and books. But as Gore Vidal has pointed out, this is the United States of Amnesia and one of our charms as Americans is that we never learn.

So true!

And it's been speculated that Hitler was a repressed homosexual, too.

And I was watching the Nuremberg Trials on PBS, and Hitler's top official -----ack, forgot his name -- began with a G. He came off as a repressed gay to me as I was listening to him talk. And then they were showing how much he loved to dress in flamboyant colorful dress -- always wearing some new colorful get-up prancing around so everyone could see. There were many other reasons than that, though, that he appeared to be a repressed case.

Anyway, like you said -- it's the self-loathing and spewing of their hate and fear outwards to others. And a NEED to excel and be on top and to feel more important and better than others. Repressed gays are capable of GREAT destruction because they turn their self-hatred outwards.

I just want to say....

THANK YOU Russ Feingold, for being a
MAN and standing up against tyranny! Spector, Frist and all the rest of
these clowns that support this kind
of blatent hate and bigotry toward
those that fall outside their idea of
mainstream seem to forget what America
is all about. And if that is what they learned in church I don't want any
part of it.

This GOP controlled Congress should be kicked in the fanny. The article below pretty much says it all:

WASHINGTON (CNN) A decorated Marine colonel turned anti-war congressman has said Marines killed at least 30 innocent Iraqi civilians "in cold blood" in Haditha in November, suggesting the death toll may be twice as high as originally reported.

Rep. John Murtha, D-Pennsylvania, told reporters Wednesday that he got his information from U.S. commanders, who said the investigation will show that the Marines deliberately killed the civilians.

The U.S. Marine Corps has declined to comment on the report, which initially stated that 15 were killed.

"There was no firefight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood," Murtha said.

Murtha, who was decorated for his service in Vietnam, said the death toll may be more than twice as high as originally reported.

"They actually went into the houses and killed women and children," the congressman said.

Citing an ongoing investigation, the Marine Corps said, "Any comment at this time would be inappropriate and could undermine the investigatory and possible legal process."

The Iraqi civilians were killed while troops from the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines were looking for insurgents who planted a roadside bomb that killed a member of their unit.

At first, the Marines said the civilians were killed by a roadside bomb. Later, they suggested the victims may have been caught in a firefight.

An Iraqi human rights group, Hammurabi Human Rights Association, caught the scene on video, which was obtained by Time magazine. A criminal investigation ensued.

Time Warner is the parent company of Time magazine and CNN.

This GOP controlled Congress have declared..."LET THE GAMES BEGIN" by shoving the Gay Marriage issue to the front burner knowing that they will never really act on this bill, they use it strictly to control the religious right.

What this GOP controlled Congress needs to be addressing are the irefutable facts of what has happened in Iraq and Afghanistan the past week.

When will the American people wake up and understand that this GOP controlled Congress doesn't care about their children dying for a "fool's errand".

Gay marriage should be the last on the totem pole, along with whether we will demand that everyone speak English.

Blood is being spilt based on a President and Vice President lying about WMD's so they could start a war and make more money on oil and big contracts. Bush is worth as reported between 7-18Million dollars, and Cheney is worth $94 Million.

Bush and Cheney never served this country. They don't care about our children.

We are now going to have to listen to their mantras about gays and lesbians, even though Cheney's daughter is a lesbian. Who the heck cares.

We have these two men, who go around the country preaching and pandering to the religious right and in their own back yards they are dealing with dysfuntional children. Two that just love to drink and party and one who is a lesbian.

We need to bring our troops home and let Halliburton scratch to get the oil. Stop using our children as your personal security guards to line their pockets with more money.

This country is in shambles, we have children who will go to bed tonight hungry, thirsty, but does that mean anything to these pseudo Christians, NO! It means nothing.

In November we need to vote them all out and get a fresh start.

The GOP with the help of Bush and Cheney have destroyed this country and the American people have sat and allowed this to happen.

It is a crying shame. How can Cheney and Bush know about war, Cheney with 5 deferrments and Bush is still AWOL>

Gay Marriage "Ban"

Will this crap never END??!!! What the hell is with these guys?!! Does it MATTER in any possible way whether the couple next door happen to be two men or two women?! What possible effect that has on "traditional marriage" totally eludes me. I know gay couples who have been together 25, 30, 35 years....a lot of "one man, one woman" relationships (marriages, if you will) cannot boast that kind of record. How did this EVER become such a ridiculous issue in the first place? Oh, I'm sorry...I forgot...there are those in this society who feel a driving need to DEMAND that we all conform to their views and edicts. What B.S.! Seems to me that innocent human beings dying by the minute in ego-driven pre-emptive wars and genocide, not to mention rampant disease is just a tad more important and deserving of attention and action than this silly marriage issue. We are all humans and should be accorded the same rights when it comes to whom we choose to enter into "wedded bliss" with! The edicts of "man-made 'law'" will never trump the human heart.

To show a bit more about the direction the...

RR is moving, try this: Cape Girardoux MO: Landlords will not be able to rent to couples who are not married. It just gets worse and worse the longer these folks are allowed to play with the people of this nation.

What kind of government worries so much about a home where two people live in harmony, love and respect each other, and are the same sex when in the house next door, a woman may be beaten and children molested by a real true heterosexual. Let's just call Specter and Frist what they are. They are panderers. Pat Robertson was on the line to them and said God had told him that in addition to 2006 being a bad hurricane season, it was also time to attack the gay community. Pat (not God of course)wants us all to send in our $20/month to help his cause. We are being governed by lunatics and bigots. I was proud of Russ Feingold for saying adios. Cape Girardeau is the place where Rush Limbaugh was spawned. What more can be said? Remember Missouri also wants to make Christianity the state religion and the burning bush the state tree. Did anyone see Mary Cheney on Letterman, She has the charm of her dad and the face of her mom. What a combination. She must find it hard to live with herself. Since she works for people who don't approve of her and she has to sell herself out for a paycheck. Shame on Dave for not knowing her book verbatim since Mary herself couldn't explain the duplicity of her life and wants us to buy the book to get the picture. I think that I prefer Reagan's daughter who just plain didn't like her dad until he arose from the dead on the second day and governs above with God. Praise the Lord,I for one,am not buying Mary's book and think Frist and his gangs's amendment violates peoples' rights.
