Rove Indictment is Imminent
Karl Rove gave up the policy part of his job for a simple reason: he's about to be indicted and frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs, thus making Joe Wilson's dream come true. Sidney Blumenthal is right:
For months, Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, has assured the press that his client, who was believed to be vulnerable to indictment for perjury, is in the clear. But Libby insisted that he was entitled to "disclosure of such documents" in Rove's files "even if Mr. Rove remains a subject of a continuing grand jury investigation".
Karl Rove is a subject of Fitzgerald's investigation - this is the headline buried in Libby's filing.
In white-collar criminal investigations, individuals who fall under the gaze of a prosecutor fit into one of three categories: witness, subject or target. Rove's attorney has suggested that Rove is simply a witness. But that is untrue. He is a subject. A subject is someone the prosecutor believes may have committed a crime and is under investigation. If the prosecutor decides he has accumulated sufficient evidence to prove guilt, he will change the designation of that person from subject to target and then indict him or her.
Having successfully completed his most extensive investigation and prosecution, ending with the conviction of former Governor Ryan, Patrick Fitzgerald returns to the unresolved case before him. The federal grand jury considering his evidence began meeting again this morning. Karl Rove remains a subject--for now.
If Rove had been indicted while holding all of the important White House jobs, the damage caused by his indictment would have been fatal. So by unloading his policy job, Rove is making it possible to resign without taking the whole White House down with him. Remember, Rove would throw himself under Air Force 1 to save Bush's stolen presidency.
Update 1: Taylor Marsh thinks Rove is taking over the K Street Project since DeLay is history. I don't think so - being a bagman is a job anyone can do. But only Rove can steal the Senate and House at a time when Bush's polls are in the mid-30's - and falling.
Update 2: emptywheel thinks Rove is effectively taking over the Republican National Committee because Ken Mehlman is going to be indicted in the New Hampshire phone jamming scandal (a.k.a. Watergate 2), and is likely to bring the whole Republican Party down with him. I think that theory has a lot going for it.
Update 3: ThinkProgress says Rove will keep his security clearance, despite his role in the outing of Valerie Plame. Will Joe Lieberman and Henry Waxman demand its revocation?

Just a BIG dream..
Take that photo ...replace Bush's face on it...Just seeing him "man handled" or tossed out of the White House would be so much fun. (ANYONE UP TO THE PHOTOSHOP CHALLENGE?)
Where were you in 2000?
I was under house arrest for my activism. It took me several years to get clear. I wanted to take it to the streets, then. Bush is worse than Harding.
Next time I recommend riots, rather than allowing the ilk of Bush assuming power in America by stealing elections. It's hard for working people to impeach people like Bush.
There was no support on the internet, then. You people are here, now. That's good, but late. I was so disappointed I gave my computer away to my teenaged daughter. I finally bought another.
I am trying to help build low power radio out here in the poor hard-working red state areas. This is where you all need to be, instead of goofing around sitting on your asses, if that is what you are doing. Then we won't have another situation like this proposed impeachment...that poor people know little about. It's the third world out here, in the real world of the USA.

P.S. The Democrats never come out here & support their candidates. I am a Democrat. I know.
Just fyi, many of us on this
Just fyi, many of us on this blog have been activist Liberal Democrats for many years before 2000. What makes you so special that you can just barge in here and accuse us of "sitting on our asses?"
Democrats.com does not advocate violence of any sort, and that includes inciting people to "riot." I suggest that you try and be a little more civil, and offer a few "real world" suggestions instead of trying for a second violation of the law.
Passion is a good thing -- fanatacism is not.
Anger is not enough.
Talking heads have to be reached as well as descent citizens. The internet allows this. If you do not understand that then at least one cheek of your ass has been sitting too long. If you have worked long enough to discover something useful then share it.
Glendon, instead of working on low-power radio in...
why don't you just get people to listen to 50,000 watt KGO out of San Francisco. Reception is good at night--Bernie Ward and Ray Taliaferro on the night shift make for interesting listening. Thats what we do, we who live further north than you do.
Ray, before offering suggestions, you might try reading some of the material already on this sitee. We have been quite active here since the middle of 2000.

Grinch is right, KGO at night, and then supplement your day with AIR AMERICA by day...Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, Tom Hartmann, Sam Seder,Janeane Garofalo, Rachael Maddow, Lara Flanders, Al Frankin and others telling it like it is in a spin free zone.
Yes, do listen to Air
Yes, do listen to Air American Radio. You can catch them over the internet at airamericaradio.com if you can't get a local radio station in your area. I discovered it here in MN early in 2004 after being totally disgusted with the local news coverage and even public radio after the Thugs got control of it. The whole group of announcers are great and some of the show you can call in and ask questions or give your comments.
Reducing Rove's Portfolio
I am not so confident that the reduction in Rove's portfolio means a likely indictment. I think it has more to do with Rove running the 2006 elections. There may have been election laws implicated with keeping the policy positions while running the 2006 elections.

If Rove is working on 2006 elections, he should be paid by the RNC not the White House.
Check out Red State on why Rove switched, with the proposed Republican agenda.
Rove is both using foresight and protecting turf, according to the American Spectator. After all, there's office politics as well as national politics.
Bye Karl
