Senator Nelson angry about Canadian drug seizures
From the NAPLES (Florida) DAILY NEWS (normally a Repug rag, but even they couldn't handle THIS!)
"Eliminating competition?
U.S. Senator Bill Nelson was right. It was U.S. Customs that had been seizing prescription drugs mailed from Canada and destined for patients in Florida and other U.S. states.
It took him two weeks to get the official confirmation, and now we even know how many envelopes and packages were seized-some 13,000.
Still unanwsered: Why? Why were legal, 90 day supplies that previously sailed through without incident suddenly intercepted by America's border police?
We trust Nelson will stay on that case, too. We are counting on him for answers, as his Republican colleague from Florida, Mel Martinez, isn't being much help, which fuels Democrat Nelson's contention that the drug interceptions seem somehow related to President Bush's Medicare Part D prescription drug program.
In the absence of more information, Nelson's initial suspicion seems right on the mark. The Bush administration is trying to eliminate the competition.
The competition, on the other hand, is what matters most to the people who ought to matter most-Americans who need affordable prescription medicine."
Bush/Cheney: Never met a corporate lobbyist they didn't love. Never met a poor working stiff they wouldn't fleece. Why are we putting up with this?

The answer to your question about the drugs...
at one time legal...coming in from Canada and being seized is very simple.
It is all in the Medicare prescription drug bill that was ramrodded through by the Repugnants with the help of many of our so-called spineless dem leaders.
Doubt this? Google it.
How did Nelson himself vote on that bill?
Nelson
Probably voted for this bill as "better than nothing". This is what a lot of Dems are doing since they have no clear-cut, decent leadership. The Democratic Party discourages me more and more. They seem determined to nominate the unelectable Hillary Clinton in 2008. And they don't seem to have any plans for taking back the House and Senate this fall. Considering how low Bush/Cheney have sunk in the polls, this should be a piece of cake, but the Dems seem CLUELESS as to how to go about it.
Nonetheless, if I want to get my prescriptions from Canada, as most people my age are doing, I don't want the damned Repugs telling me I can't! I'm retired, but not old enough for Medicare at this point. Bush and Co. have INTENTIONALLY made these Medicare plans so complicated that most end up actually paying MORE money than they did with the old plan and they deserve to be called on their unlawful use of the immigration forces to seize these medications.
Dumbya and his corporate cronies are destroying the middle class, and they are doing it intentionally.
I'm not a big fan of Nelson's because he is "Republican lite", just like most Southern Democratic Senators, but we have a choice of him or Katherine Harris, the former Florida Secretary of State who called the 2000 election in Florida for Dumbya and does exactly what Jebby tells her to do. As for our other Senator, Repug Mel Martinez, the less said, the better. He's another Cuban Dumbya lap chihuahua.
I have been doing
A lot of phone banking and have come across many seniors who are very upset and scared about the problems you brought up about Medicaire. This is what disgusts me the most about these Repugs is they prey on the weak, the ederly and the poor. Hearing 90 yr old widows like one I talked to the other day, scared of losing their medicines really gets at my craw. With all the worries of being 90 and alone, now she has that to worry about too. Your point on Hillary being unelectable was right on. I don't want her nominated. Your other point about the Democrats not being able to come up with real ideas or a plan to win with, the grassroots are the only ones trying. We do need a plan akin to the Contract with America (except not total BS) to present our ideas and what we are going to do when elected. Also, your have the coolest username ever!! I argued on here for Nelson before, for the same reasons you elaborate, What would be the alternative?

Aaaahhh, another fine failure of team Bush and his band of merry-men- one that the dems and everyone here warned about this happening from day one!
"Its time to replace fear with hope. This is the crucial message that America must begin to hear and believe in again. For hope is the mortal enemy of fear; and fear cannot succeed in the solidarity of inspired hope."
