American Bar Association Asks Bush to Comply with FISA Law
Michael S. Greco, president of the ABA, wrote this letter to Bush asking him to comply with the FISA law when conducting domestic electronic surveillance, on February 13, 2006.
This was after they completed a Task Force program review on Domestic Surveillance in the Fight Against Terrorism.
ABA requests Bush to abide by Constitutional limits imposed in President:
RESOLVED, that the American Bar Association calls upon the President to abide by the limitations which the Constitution imposes on a president under our system of checks and balances and respect the essential roles of the Congress and the judicial branch in ensuring that our national security is protected in a manner consistent with constitutional guarantees
ABA Opposes Surveillance without FISA Oversight:
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the American Bar Association opposes any future electronic surveillance inside the United States by any U.S. government agency for foreign intelligence purposes that does not comply with the provisions of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, 50 U.S.C. §§ 1801 et seq. (FISA), and urges the President, if he believes that FISA is inadequate to safeguard national security, to seek appropriate amendments or new legislation rather than acting without explicit statutory authorization

Anyone think Bush is listening, cares or even read the letter or the report? My bet is on - NO!
Of Course, Bush believes he is above the law, makes his own laws and why would he listen to the American Bar Association?
He doesn't listen to anyone other the the guy whispering in his ear- Karl Rove, or the voice in his psychotic head- "God."
Or maybe in Bush's mind they are one in the same?
Does that make Dick Cheney the Devil?

Since the ABA has been left
Since the ABA has been left out of the nomination process for SCOTUS replacements, The Federalist Society is all that matters to the neocons. Speedy Gonzales said it was okay to torture POWs, and to spy on American citizens, so Dubya thinks he is on "firm legal ground."
It's that Dictator fantasy don't ya know...
Bill, honestly, how do we put a stop to the Bush madness
Not to go off on a rant, but each day all the members of this board, a thousand other good blogs, great politicians like Feingold, Dean and Conyers, Constitutional scholars like John Dean all the way to the ABA, along with 50 million other democrats and 66% of this nation our disgusted and appalled at Bush and want him out. (I am sure I left out a plethora of other notable people.)
It is almost becoming insipid if not over-whelming to keep up with the lies, the spins, the cover-ups and outright treason Bush commits, yet he remains in office!
What must we do to stop the madness of ‘King George’ and halt our slide into the abyss of fascism and an autocracy rule? To stop the assault on the Constitution and bring the Iraq war to an end- restore hope and peace instead of fear and hate?
It seems that no matter what is said, proven and brought to light, this misanthropic moron still occupies our highest office; where he least belongs.
Is a second Revolution needed to stop the Bush dynastic rule?
"Its time to replace fear with hope. This is the crucial message that America must begin to hear and believe in again. For hope is the mortal enemy of fear; and fear cannot succeed in the solidarity of inspired hope."
We need the press!I must
We need the press! Specifically TV News.
I must admit that Count Down with Keith Obermann on MSNBC really does behave as a real press should. I mean he breaks in as if Republican lies and incompetence are important NEWS items.
Can you imagine how wonderful this Nation would be if even half the TV networks broke in with Watergate like coverage of event after event after event?
This is a shameful time to be a Network.
Frank, I believe that the
Frank, I believe that the short answer is, "follow the money." I sincerely believe that the general populace is beginning to feel the first pangs of regret and uneasiness about the excesses of the corrupt PNAC neoconservatives currently in charge of our country's assets and honor.
Those of us who involve ourselves politically, and make it a practice to try and stay "on top" of current events, saw these atrocities coming from afar. The general American public however, is sometimes slow to judge, and would rather trust their rose-colored glasses than engage in direct confrontation. I believe that the glasses, and the gloves, are beginning to come off and Americans will finally say -- enough!
Just as your tag lines says, it is time to replace fear with hope. To answer your question of "how do we..." however, we just keep doing it the hard way: one American heart and mind at a time.
Jim, do you think the netroots is making a difference?
Jim, do you think the netroots is making a difference?
Are we the grass roots movement, (ala the 60's peace movement) 21st century style?
Or are we all just spitt-balling here, hoping against hope?
The inability to bring the BA to justice seems to defy logic.
It's as if Bush is the new John Gotti- The Teflon Don...NOTHING STICKS!

The blogs are making a difference.
I see it in the way some talking heads are starting to realize another pissed off mob with cash and voices (other than the Right) is rising.
As I’ve said before, gaining victory ain’t that sweet as we have been fleeced, and while Republicans have started to chaff their former apologists on many issues they did gain them cash.
Still, after all is said and done, we will have injected a new political template into the political dialogue. People will know how to be Democrats again from the ground up. It had to come. Young folks could take for granted the gains gotten them by previous Democrats and could entertain the nonsense of the Right. Those same young folks could not always understand the anger from the Left but they are putting two and two together now. They will continue to as the shit hits the fan.
My only worry is if some of our tentative social allies in high places abandon us and allow the mob to be placated as the shit DOES hit the fan. Such placation can only come from scapegoats that are beaten pretty badly and I do not want to see that.
On the bright side economics hold a lot of factions together and if you go to a mall you will see that many Americans are oblivious. I am betting that the powers that be do not want a full blown clusterf*** on their hands.

Can George Bush read? I don't think so. He must be able to pray well enough. Anyone else who had committed the treasonous acts that he has done on the American people would be facing a noose. Following the money is a good idea. Now the Dubai Co is upset that their stockholders may not benefit fast from their great deal. You know the one that I mean, the selling off of America. Does anyone else own them other than the royals? We need to awaken the sleeping giant of American conscience. We need our own Pearl Harbor that can be traced back to George Bush. The decimation of New Orleans wasn't enough since the poor people who were forced out can't fight back because they have no homes, no jobs, are still searching for missing/dead/victimized children and relatives, and are our homegrown displaced persons. If this is a nightmare, I want to wake up now. IMPEACH BUSH.
