It's George Washington's fault

The lies are getting ridiculous and it really is getting embarrassing. Gonzalez, who was not put under oath because Spector thought it would not be a good way to begin the hearing, [Roll the video tape] has apparently explained to America and to our legislators, that Bush is not in error when ordering warrantless surveillance on Americans because:

President Washington, President Lincoln, President Wilson, President Roosevelt have all authorized electronic surveillance on a far broader scale.

[Roll the Video Tape]

I don't know about presidents Wilson and Roosevelt, but when it comes to Washington and Lincoln, I'm finding a hard time believing that either one of them authorized wire tapping.

Washington, president 1789-1797
Lincoln, president, 1861-1865

Telephone patented by Bell, 1876

I believe Washington even missed out on the telegraph.

So, how did Washington, especially, authorize electronic surveillance on a far broader scale when he had no telephone, no radio, no telegraph - hell, not even a phonograph...

The lies are getting so ridiculous it's frightening and our legislators just sit there. Some of them - like Spector - think it's just great that someone like Gonzalez can lie through his teeth to lawmakers but it's ok, apparently because Gonzalez wasn't sworn in.

I'm just wondering if any of them ever get embarrassed.

George Washington authorized electronic surveillance on a far broader scale than Bush did...You just can't make stuff up like this, folks.

Who is in charge?

Really.

This is insanity.

Whoever it is -

Is a certifiable idiot and the embarrassment is just getting overwhelming.

Imprison Bill Clinton

If a Democratic President had done one tenth of what this Republican President had done, Republicans would have impeached, prosecuted and imprisoned him for life or worse.

Republicans bullshitted for a decade and half about Government getting off our backs when all they obviously meant was we are not allowed to use Government to improve our lives.

Americans need a pound of flesh:

If we have passed through the looking glass then let’s just imprison Bill Clinton.

I'm stunned

speechless, flabergased, flumoxed. This is a mystery of the highest magnatude. Washington? Was he given the technology by aliens? Electronics powered by Franklin's Kite?

What kind of putz could possibly say this?

More importantly, what kind of putz could possibly believe this?

Saving the world from stupidity
One Republican at a time
Since November, 2004

I have no troube believing

I have no troube believing that anyone attached to this adminstration can/will say outrageous/stupid/false things. Hasn't that been going on since 2000? I will agree though, they are reaching new (lower) depths.
How anyone could sit there and listen to this and not question it, or just say nothing, is what is frightening to me.
Has everyone in Congress completely "zoned out"?

Gonzales

What I want to know is, who was sitting in front of Gonzales when he made the statement about electronic surveillance, and why did no one challenge his remarks!?

I was watching at the time, but I don't have the names of the senators who were present at the time these remarks were made. Perhaps each and every one of them needs to hear from each and every one of us!

Complicit

I believe that every legislator who sat there and swallowed that crap without speaking out or challenging Gonzalez on it has admitted complicity in believing it.

I'm wondering what would happen if I wrote one of my republican legislators, quoting Gonzalez, and ask him to explain to me how it is that he (not Gonzalez) believes that Washington authorized electronic surveillance. Better yet, I might ask what form of electronic surveillance Washington authorized.

I think that's a good idea.

I think that's a good idea. I have repug senators and I think I'm going to just that!

Lemme know

if you get a reply, and I'll do the same.

I certainly will. I'll be

I certainly will. I'll be doing it today.
I have to admit it's been a while since I've been able to get an answer to ANYTHING from my repug Senators.
But I'm going to enjoy writing it.

We red staters

have to grab excitement wherever we can find it.

Watch the press yuck it up about how it was a simple mistake!

Yeah, for an entire room of Government officials. A Government we gave the power to destroy the World many times over with the press of a button.

There is collusion going on here and it stinks to high heaven! Everything has become a team sport and not all of it is simply Republican. It crosses into the stink of some of our Representatives. Hell, it is certainly a pox on anyone who remained silent during yet another passion play.

Gonzo

Gonzo knows just as much about history as he does the law. I think that I heard that King Tut used electronic surveillance. George Bush also prevented the terrorist attack from Kansas when Dorothy's house tried to land on the White House. This country has become the Land of Oz with the Witless Wizard leading the flying monkeys. How can anyone with any brains believe anything these guys say? IMPEACH GEORGE BUSH (I am shouting now.)
