A "Moral Values" Measurement!

Re: the following clip from the Salt Lake Tribune Opinion Page:

Let's see how Bush stands up to a "moral values" measurement:

o) Bush planned to go to war with Iraq from the start of his Administration.

o) Misleading Americans about Iraqi WMDs, Iraq Participation in 9/11 and the Iraqi al Qaeda connection.
o) Saddam was getting enriched uranium from Niger.
o) President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair were ready to go to war against Iraq with or without a second UN resolution.
o) Bombed and killed Iraqi civilians (collateral damage).
o) Will hunt down and kill Osama:....."He's not relevant anymore."
o) Mission Accomplished!
o) Outed Valarie Palme.
o) We went into Iraq to spread Democracy in the Middle east. ---NOT!
o) "This is an impressive crowd: the Haves and Have-mores. Some people call you the elites. I call you my base."
o) The "swift boating" of John Kerry.
o) "4"..Number of days residents of New Orleans went without federal relief supplies.
o) "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."
o) The survivors of the hurricane "will experience a tidal wave of compassion." (their still waiting)
o) "Because so many of the people [harmed] were underprivileged anyway" the disaster "is working very well for them." ~Barbara Bush

o) Elimination of the Estate Tax ($70 Billion windfall for the rich).
o) A Bankruptcy Bill that rewards credit card companies at the expense of Americans that have experienced a financial crisis.
o) Trade policies that allow corporate America to exploit both American and foreign workers.

o) Trading with a country that has a totalitarian government and a record of egregious humanitarian and civil rights abuses (China).
o) Detention of American citizens without due process.
o) Imperialistic plans for world domination.

And to top off this litany of "moral values" that the Bush Administration and the Republican led Congress have displayed we now have ..."murder"!
Of course Pat Robertson of the "Moral Majority" says that the assassination of Venezuela's President Chavez is OK, so assassination must indeed be a true moral value

The Clip:
U.S. is back in assassination business
Patrick Shea

Thirty-one years ago I worked for Sen. Frank Church of Idaho on the first U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee. What began as an analytic investigation of the U.S. intelligence community rapidly devolved into a much-televised investigation into the U.S. policy of attempting to assassinate foreign leaders.

Early in 1975, Vice President Nelson Rockefeller turned over to the committee the "family jewels"- a collection of notes from people within the U.S. Intelligence Committee that then-director of the Central Intelligence Agency, James Scheslinger, had gathered from CIA employees he had asked to chronicle the wrongdoings they had observed.

The handoff from Rockefeller to Church began a two-year investigative process involving 142 staff members and 11 senators. In the end, more than 10 volumes of information were produced and various legislative and regulatory reforms were implemented. One of the most significant was a unanimous recommendation that the United States adopt a statute prohibiting political assassination.

The Congress did not adopt the legislation. However, in 1977 after President Carter was sworn into office with Walter Mondale as his vice president, an executive order was issued prohibiting the use of political assassination. Mondale, a former member of the Church committee, implemented the policy in the new administration.

Under Presidents Reagan, Bush "41" and Clinton, the executive order prohibiting political assassination was maintained and honored. As has now been publicly revealed, the administration of Bush "43" secretly repealed the prohibition on assassination. In its place, under the omnipresent 9/11 rationale, the U.S. is back in the business of assassination.
