Monday Updates:

  • 5:00 pm: 18 Democrats betrayed all of us by voting with 55 goose-stepping Republicans to defeat the filibuster. We were betrayed by many Senators we worked very hard to elect. Call those Senators and share your anger (in a controlled way, of course) with their receptionists: Akaka (HI), Baucus (MT), Bingaman (NM), Byrd (WV), Cantwell (WA), Carper (DE), Dorgan (ND), Inouye (HI), Johnson (SD), Kohl (WI), Landrieu (LA), Lieberman (CT), Lincoln (AR), Nelson (FL), Nelson (NE), Rockefeller (WV), Salazar (CO)
  • 4:15 pm: Ted Kennedy was passionate and inspirational - this will go into the history books. 15 minutes til showtime - keep calling!
  • 3:44 pm: RawStory's John Byrne reports filibuster supporters are now in the "thirties." Durbin spokesman Joe Shoemaker says "Durbin and other Democrats aren't willing to give up the fight."
  • 3:30 pm: The Gang of 14 went into closed-door meetings to stop our peasant uprising. Alito's personal trainer, Lindsay Graham, will lead the charge against a filibuster. How many of these media-adored "moderates" will vote to help Alito nuke the Constitution? (Alito opponents in italics) Republicans * John S. McCain III, Arizona * Lindsey O. Graham, South Carolina * John Warner, Virginia * Olympia Snowe, Maine * Susan M. Collins, Maine * R. Michael DeWine, Ohio * Lincoln Chafee, Rhode Island. Democrats * Joseph I. Lieberman, Connecticut * Robert C. Byrd, West Virginia * E. Benjamin Nelson, Nebraska * Mary Landrieu, Louisiana * Daniel Inouye, Hawaii * Mark Pryor, Arkansas * Ken Salazar, Colorado. Call the offices of all the anti-Alito Senators and tell them they must filibuster Alito or their vote against Alito is meaningless.
  • 3:13 pm: Thanks to siun, we are moving Jim Jeffords (I-VT) into the "Kickass Caucus" (#23)
  • 3:00 pm: After his kickass speech, Bob Menendez (D-NJ) joins the "Kickass Caucus" (#22)
  • 2:42 pm: Thanks to Randwolfe, we are moving Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) into the "Kickass Caucus" (#21)
  • 2:17 pm: Thanks to Randwolfe, we are moving Kent Conrad (D-ND) from the "Craven Caucus" to the "Traitor Caucus." Here is Conrad's idiotic statement, which we will use as Alito's Articles of Impeachment when he breaks his first promise to Conrad.
  • 2:04 pm: Thanks to Thersites, we are putting Joe Lieberman (D-CT) in the "Craven Caucus" -  we must turn him around!
  • 2:01 pm: Thanks to Anjali Khosla, we are counting Mark Dayton (D-MN) as pro-filibuster (#20)
  • 1:50 pm: Thanks to Real American for linking to a Las Vegas TV report that Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) was hospitalized early this morning after a serious car accident. We wish him a speedy but restful recovery. This makes it harder for Sen. Frist to get 60 votes for cloture today - he needs 9 Senators from our list below, not 8.
  • 1:00 pm: Cablevision customers watching C-SPAN 2 watched Kerry morph into sexy Indian dancers selling mortages for at least two hours. Cablevision claims it was just a technical glitch - yeah right! Call Tom Garger, Director of Local Programming at 516-803-1378 and demand uninterrupted 24-hour coverage on all 3 C-SPAN channels!
  • 12:50 pm: John Kerry is giving a magnificent speech on C-SPAN 2
  • 12:35 pm: Jim Jeffords (I-VT) supports the filibuster! (#19)
  • 12:30 pm: Contrary to earlier reports, Chafee is undecided on the filibuster - keep calling!
  • 12:26 pm: Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) is in the "Gutless Caucus" opposed to Alito but also quietly opposed to the filibuster - we must turn him around!
  • 12:12 pm: C-SPAN 2 is scrolling 56-35 for Alito on a final vote - but no tally on the filibuster. John Kerry will speak on the floor at 12:30.
  • 11:45 am: Bill Nelson (D-FL) still opposes the filibuster - we must turn him around!
  • 11:42 am: Tom Harkin will abstain, which is great! (#18)
  • 10:55 am: AP's Jesse Holland is singing an entirely different tune: Kennedy leads final effort to block Alito. That means it's too close to call!!!! Kennedy offers the perfect filibuster sound-bite: "He is the wrong judge at the wrong time in the wrong place." Jeffords opposes Alito - but will he filibuster? Keep calling the undecideds!!!
  • 10:35 am: joanneleon and tanya are gathering all of the feedback at DailyKos - we still have LOTS of undecided Senators to call!
  • 9:18 am: Leahy supports the filibuster (#17)
  • 8:45 am: Olympia Snowe is up this year too: 207-799-0221. She has always been supported by pro-choice groups like the Women's Campaign Fund (202-393-8164) and Republicans for Choice (703- 212-0890) - urge them to convince Snowe to oppose Alito.
  • 7:45 am: Jim Baron says Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) will cast a crucial vote against the filibuster to placate the GOP, and then cast a meaningless vote against Alito to play his voters for suckers. We'll know for sure at Chafee's 10 am press conference - watch for Karl Rove standing behind the curtain. Chafee is in a tough election - his campaign phone is 401-921-1920.
  • Baron says Jack Reed (D-RI) will vote for the filibuster (#16)
  • 7 am: Mark Pryor (D-AR) opposes a filibuster because "there is not a smoking gun in his past." Well, we just found a SMOKING CANNON. Karl Rove's ho at the NY Times, David Kirkpatrick, reports Alito's nomination was entirely engineered by the treasonous Federalist Society - the same people who brought us "legal" torture and "legal" wiretapping - and is the culmination of a plan to push federal courts to the far right that began as a conspiracy at Yale in 1982. Three points: (1) Do Alito's Democratic supporters in the Senate  - and the swing votes - know that Alito's nomination was engineered by the Federalist Society? (2) Did David Kirkpatrick tell Bill Keller about this before today, and if so, why did Keller withhold this crucial information from NY Times readers? Is he treating his readers as suckers yet again? (3) Let's take the fizz out the Federalist Society's champagne by launching a successful filibuster!
  • 7 am: Vichy Democrats has a plan for this morning - let's pick up the phones!
  • The man who must stop the filibuster is Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a.k.a. Terri Schiavo's personal physician. Frist was on Meet the Press yesterday, where Tim Russert ripped him to shreds (courtesy of the Ostroy Report). Why should Democrats support this jerk on anything?
  • Lots of great resources at the Alliance for Justice's Supreme Court Watch
  • Today's best blogs: Bog Geiger, BuzzFlashArmando, Thom HartmannBev ConoverBooManLinda Starr, Gen. JC Christian, Alternet, Duke1676, Todd Gitlin, Paul Savoy...
  • Bush is going to Nashville tomorrow - bring your "Filibuster Alito" signs to the protest!

Sunday Updates: (Scroll to bottom for Saturday's news)

  • 7 pm: AP's Hope Yen claims the AP did its own canvass and found "at least 62" votes for cloture. I don't believe she actually verified her count with Senators this weekend - as opposed to just using my tally below, which relies on secondary sources - and I just emailed her to prove it by sending me the list. If she doesn't, she's a propagandist and a liar and I will demand a written apology from her Editor in Chief.
  • 5:15 pm: Here are the campaign numbers for the other Senators who need Democratic money in 2006: Akaka 808-522-8972, Bingaman 202-314-3222, Byrd 202-546-9292, Cantwell 202-314-3225, Carper 202-546-0909/202-546-6916f, 202-314-3224/202-314-3235f, Kohl 414-276-5645, Lieberman 202-546-0474/202-546-0476f, Ben Nelson 202-546-8100/202-546-7493f, Bill Nelson 202-547-0010/202-547-3419f. Call repeatedly - if we really piss them off, maybe they'll abandon private financing and pass Clean Elections with Public Financing!
  • 5 pm: Tanya explains the problem with - and importance of - NJ's progressive Senators, Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez: Alito is from NJ, and actually from Menendez's former Congressional District. While Lautenberg provided the Senatorial courtesy of introducing Alito at the hearings, he was up front about his disagreements so I'm not worried about him. However Menendez is a brand new (and hence unknown) Senator, so I am worried. We have major leverage with Menendez because he must run in November, and several Democrats (Rob Andrews, Frank Pallone, Rush Holt) would primary him if he failed to filibuster. So let's inundate his campaign at 201-271-1661 (press 2 for the Finance Director who has to ask loyal Dems for dough) and Also call newly-elected Gov. Jon Corzine, who appointed Menendez to his vacant seat: 609-292-6000
  • 2 pm: WTF??? One week ago, Dick Durbin told Daily Southtown (IL) reporter Kristen McQueary he had 37 votes for a filibuster - all but 8 Senate Democrats. Why hasn't Durbin shared that list with us so we could identify for certain the "Alito 8," rather than trying to guess? And Armando asks the right question: "Have Kennedy and Kerry held those votes? Added?"
  • 12:20 p.m.: Mark Pryor said he won't filibuster Alito because there's no "smoking gun." But there is one, as Adele Stan points out: either Alito lied to the Senate when he said he wasn't a member of Concerned Alumni of Princeton, or he lied to the Justice Department in 1985 when he said he was a member! He lied on one federal job application or the other - that's a smoking gun!
  • 11:45 a.m: More good news: Sen. Biden told Wolf Blitzer he would vote for the filibuster (#15) - but just once, and then he'll vote against it. So I'll take him out of Filibuster Opponents - silent & scared, but I need to create a new caucus of one: the "Filibuster Flip-Flop Caucus," for Senators who will vote for the filibuster before they vote against it. I can't imagine Biden wants to spend much time in the "Filibuster Flip-Flop Caucus," so let's keep pounding him until he votes for it twice... thrice... as many times as it takes!
  • 10:10 a.m: Good news and bad news: Sen. Obama told George Staphylococcus he will (reluctantly) support the filibuster (#14), but also that it would fail - without identifying which Democrats would cause it to fail, which would help us turn them around. Obama said he opposed "procedural maneuvers" and wished Democrats had framed the substantive issues better. Hey Obama - when a wide receiver drops a pass, he doesn't walk over to the other team's coach and forfeit the game! No, he goes back to the huddle and tells his quarterback to throw him the ball on the very next play and then he makes damn well sure he catches it. Your next play is tomorrow so get over your past mistakes and catch the goddamn ball by preventing Bill Frist from getting 60 votes! Then you'll have plenty of time to frame the filibuster debate as it drags on for day after day...
  • 9:00 a.m.: Great news!! There is nothing new in today's NY Times or Pentagon Post or the AP about Alito. That means Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats have not unilaterally surrendered to Bush - yet. Stay tuned for the morning talk shows...
  • There are many phone, fax, and email lists circulating, including the long list of local numbers below. I will try to figure out the best list for all of us to use today, since nearly every known voicemail box is full (hooray!!)
  • Tomorrow (Monday) is the Big Day. Starting at 9:00 a.m., we must flood Congressional offices with calls - even shut down the Capitol switchboard.
  • 20-odd Senators can't figure out what to do. With a hat-tip to Josh Marshall, I'm calling them the "Clueless Caucus" and tracking their statements at AlitoWaffleWatch
  • On Saturday, Ted Kennedy held a conference call (I wasn't invited - hint, hint) and urged activists to target Senators Pryor, Lincoln, Cantwell, Murray, Baucus, Harkin, Levin, Bayh, Lautenberg, Menendez, and Lieberman. In addition, he said to keep the pressure on Republican Senators Snowe, Collins, Chafee, and Stevens. These Senators are all on our list below, so us activists are holding up our end of this team effort!
  • Thanks to for their kind words about our humble efforts. Read the excellent blogs by DigbyBuzzFlash (everyone should subscribe to Buzz's email alerts), jasonwhat (brilliant!), Georgia10
  • The NAACP supports a filibuster (news story) and so does the DLC - is this the dawning of the Age of Aquarius?

Original Post:

We need to stop George Bush from getting 60 Senators to end the filibuster on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

That means we must convince 41 Senators to either support a filibuster or stay away from the Senate on Monday, preferably by visiting maimed soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital.

Below is a list of 44 Democrats, 1 Independent, and 3 Republicans whose support is possible - the "Alito 48."

We will keep a tally below, relying on you to report back on your calls.

  • Crossed out names support the filibuster - don't call them
  • Underlined names will be absent - which is good but keep calling them
  • Bold names will probably vote against Alito, but oppose the filibuster - call them first! (Our info sources are numbered and linked)
  • Regular names will probably vote against Alito, but have not declared their position on a filibuster - call them second!
  • Italic names will vote for Alito and against the filibuster - call them third and try to convince them to change!

This is the latest tally:

Goal We Lose
Filibuster supporter: 20+1 Abstain or Absent: 1    22  48  -
Filibuster opponent: 5+3 Alito supporter: 5    13  0  9

Here are the "Filibuster 48" with their direct phone numbers. You can also use these toll-free numbers (and ask for the Senators by name): 888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641.

Ask the question clearly: will Senator X support John Kerry's filibuster of Judge Alito, or will (s)he oppose Kerry's filibuster?

We need a firm yes or no - be polite but persistent.

Post the results of your calls in the comments below.

My Own Version of Game Plan - FYI

I’ve posted an updated summary of where the Alito vote stands, which senators are on the fence, phone numbers, etc. We have today (Friday) and maybe part of Monday to win back ONE anti-filibuster vote and enable Kerry to block the Alito nomination. Please make the most of the time we have.

Feel free to use my game plan as a supplemental guide, so we don't waste time calling Senators who've already committed:

Updated Vichy Dems Anti Alito Head Count and Game Plan.

Good luck and keep the Dem phones ringing!! Thanks.

According to his office, Senator Levin "has not made yet decided" regarding the Filibuster but is voting NO for the nomination.

So far I've called 16 senators and the following are the only Yes or No's I have gotten.
Senator Ron Weydon of Oregon and Senator Hillary Clinton will support a fillibuster.
Senators Tim Johnson of SD and Ben Nelson of NE are voting for Alito.

Phone calls

I am so angry right now, I could spit!

I have spent the entire morning contacting the Senators on the list and I am so disappointed in how many fence sitters there are and how rudely I was treated by some offices. I was polite, and asked the question - and stated I am a life-long democrat and I'm making these calls on my own, out of my own pocket and I'm disabled and on a fixed income, because that is how concerned I am and I wanted to make it clear I am under no one's influence.

Here is my tally so far - the lines were busy in many cases and in one or two no one answered the phone at all.

Prior No Decision
Lincoln No Decision although the aid told me she will vote against Alito - however the staff member could not get rid of me fast enough and hung up on me in mid-sentence.

Salazar - nor supporting
Liberman - No Decision
Dodd - No decision
Carper - No decision
Biden - Not supporting
Nelson No decision
Inouye - No decision
Harkin - No decision
Obama -No decision
Bayh - No decision
Mikulski - No decision
Sarabanes - No Decision
Levin - No decision
Dayton - No decision
Dorgan - not supporting
Conrad - No decision
Nelson - No decision
Menendez No decision
Bingaman No decision
Wyden - No decision
Reed - No decision
Leahy - No decision
Cantwell - no decision - statement on Monday
Murray - No decision
Kohl - No decision - voted no in Committee
Rockefeller IV - No decision

Byrd - No decision PLEASE NOTE:

I am from West Virginia and generations of my family have and are still living in WVA. The aid in his office was the most rude person I have spoken to. I just about had my name out and was about to ask how Senator Byrd was going to support or not support and this woman could not cut me off fast enough - she told me she was too busy and had to go -and this made me very angry (although I did not express how angry I was to her. She would not have liked it, I can assure you of that! However, it would not have done any good anyhow-because she ended up hanging up on me anyhow, rather than listen to my opinion as a life-long democrat and with deep roots to WVA.

She said it's not going to happen anyhow - look at the numbers. Yeah - I'd like to give her a number. Arrogant and snooty - so unlike West Virginia's people!

Some of these staff members should remember it's our tax money that pays their high salaries. I am on a fixed income, disabled and all these phone calls I'm paying for because I believe in the importance of letting our elected officials know how I feel. If the woman is getting too many calls today - too bad! If she can't take the heat, then she ought to get out of the kitchen as they say.

She should take a course on being polite to all members of the Democratic party, and polite to the public period.

Jeffords - No decision
Stevens - No decision
Snowe - No decision (my State Senator - we don't have a Democratic Senator in Maine - we need one! and we already know where Collins support is.
Chafee - No decision

They are back in session now.

I have to say how discusted I am with a bunch of fence sitters - who don't have the courage to stand up and state their decision. Rather than having the courage to say, I'm for or against, the majority of them prefer sitting on the fence to see which way the wind blows and how it will impact on them.

I'm from the generation of grass roots and our fight for civil rights, women's rights and on and on. Because of women just like me, women today have all sorts of opportunities and we were glad to make the sacrifices we did to ensure that future generations would. When I was in my early 20's, self-supporting and more than able to afford it, I could not get a bank loan - they wouldn't even take an application back then from a woman.

All the strides we've made, we seem to be losing more ground every day. What about our future generations? What about our country and the continual loss of our freedoms as guaranteed to us under the Constitution? What did our people die for in so many wars? For freedom - and Bush and his buddies turn their backs on all of that - but oh yeah, Bush never served anyhow - and the preferential treatment he received so he wouldn't be in danger and yet he couldn't even honor that by going awol.

My Dad is a Pearl Harbor combat vet. More and more cuts are being made to the veterans' budget and services. He says, they are waiting for us to die off so they won't have to fulfill their promises to us.

All of our veterans are putting and have put their lives on the line and have given their lives for this country and now we are living in a country that if Alito gets in, we'll have to become conservative Christians and give up our rights or end up in some enclosure like Quatanomo Bay (spelling?) Sorry about that, but I am so very disappointed in the Democrats I've called today. They walk around in their 500 suits and get their perks, while ordinary Americans wonder how we can heat our homes, get the medicines we need, and so forth.

People in LA and Mississippi and all the areas hits so hard by the hurricanes are still in a state of emergency - and this is the good ole' USA? Bush has spent billions on his stupid games - the war in Iraq -now he's eyeing Iran and has done so much damage to our reputation in the global community, who knows if we will ever regain that?

Sorry for blowing off so much steam - but I am disappointed as a life-long Democrat and as an American citizen.

Thanks to Senators Kerry and Kennedy for having the courage to take such a stand. I lived in Massachusetts for many years and was very involved politically and one thing I have to say about Massachusetts democrats - they do care for the ordinary citizens like you and me. (most of them anyhow).

I will be praying that the fillibuster goes through and most of all, that Alito is not approved. Between him and Cheney andthe rest of the Bush gang - God knows what will happen to us if this happens. For certain, a woman's right to choose will be taken away.

I am not pro-abortion - I am pro-choice. I do not feel I can tell another woman what to do with her body- that's a very difficult private and personal decision for a woman to make and it should be between her, her physician and her spiritual beliefs.

If I have to continue to live under the Falwell, Cheney Bush mentality - I may move to Canada!!!!!

However, I'd like to note, that I'm living in Maine and Baby Bush is not supported or liked in this state at all. We did not support him in the election. I'm proud of that. It's just too bad he was able to steal it and get away with it.

In the struggle,

Senators Still Have E-Mail Addresses

While many members of Congress use contact forms, their offices still have valid have e-mail addresses in the system. I figured out Barack Obama's address by sending him a single e-mail message addressed to several possible e-mail addresses (based on the current Senate naming conventions). Got back a confirmation on this one. Below are the e-mail addresses I've found so far.

Spread the word. We can still contact members by e-mail to support the Alito filibuster, etc. If a Senator isn't on the list below, we just have to be creative (by trial and error) to contact them.

Thank you, Jeanne.

We are a household with a few disabled members,
trying to make ends meet and life long Democrats.

I agree with you, our veterans have been shafted by
their so called Commander-in- Chief, and basically every
bit of social and political progress we've made in the past
50+ years is on the line , right now! I'm glad you're not
giving up- neither am I or millions of other Americans
who really care about our country. Hey- they are not just
Democrats- we've been getting a few very ticked off Repubs.
joining us here on the blog. I'm not talking about trolls, either.
These people are fed up and ticked off, too!

I'm honored to meet you - someone else who is strong enough to stand up and be counted. I'm really happy to hear that we have some Republicans joining us. This is an issue that will impact upon all of us, regardless of our party.

I hope I live long enough to see Americans standing up to these thieves to remind them that our country is suppose to be by the people and for the people not a country run by the likes of a Bush and all his corrupt, greedy, poverty pimp followers. They live off the backs of the working man and woman and the poor and have forgotten why they are suppose to be there. Some of them have no understanding or sense of integrity, honesty or humility in service to the public either. They need to be taken down a peg or two and some definitely need to be kicked out of office for good.

I use to do a lot of community organizing when I was younger and it was so frustrating sometimes because the people don't seem to get the fact that we are a strong power of one, if we are unified against the wrongs that have been committed for far too long by elected officials. If we all stood together against the corruption, the lies, and the illegal activities of elected politicians, we would see change start to happen. I believe that with all my heart and will never stop believing it - that is the power we have and that is why they purposely frustrate us - because they fear the power we do have as citizens of this country.

I do as much as I can, as I know you and your family do as well as all the other committed, concerned Americans, who participate in this forum and take action when and how they can.

All we have to do, when we become so discouraged, is to think of the sacrifices people have made throughout history in the name of freedom and liberty for all of us. Yes we are still a "free" country in some ways, but the most important liberties we have enjoyed and often taken for granted, are threatened now, more than ever. I want a future for the generation now and those to come, where a family can realize the American dream of a decent-paying job, a home of their own, medical care when needed and the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.

We CAN do it!!!

Best wishes, Jeanne

I just wrote a scathing e-mail to him after reading his comments in the NYT.

Then I saw the NEWSWEEK article and wrote back to him, asking him if he thinks that information is enough for him to understand that the TIME is NOW to vote NO and NO because a YES on Alito or a YES on cloture will allow Bush to get away with his crimes, based on Alito's unitary executive vision of presidential power.

We will stop them... anyway, if you can call his office as a constituent, then please do that and ask me to explain what I'm talking about if you don't understand after looking at the article.

It is proving difficult to get through to Senator Landrieu. The line has been busy for hours, and when I did finally get through, I was asked to hold and then no one came back to the line. But I think we need to keep trying her office.

Some office seem open to calls from outside their states, and some are very particular, insisting on your zipcode. I just tell them that I consider all of the Senators to be my representatives.

It's cowardly to hide behind zip

codes when what they're considering is lifetime appointments to courts. That affects us all, not just their constituents.

This morning I called the 48 and the DNC and the DSCC. My results: All 48 mailboxes were full except: 1) Sen. Jack Reed's. I was able to leave a message with him and a second one with his press secretary's voicemail as well. 2) On Sen. Ken Salazar's line, phone #(202) 228-3630 is still open. 3) On Sen. Ted Stevens's, you can still send a message "regular" delivery or "urgent." I was able to send an urgent message.
I was able to also leave a message with the DSCC.
Interesting...Sen. Johnson's voicemail says that you've reached, "Senator Tim Johnson's night service." (!??!)
Sen. Sarbanes's line just kept ringing.
Your list states 5 categories: crossed-out names, underlined names, bold names, regular names, and italic names. I can't find the underlined ("Will be absent-which is good but keep calling them") names anywhere.

Does anyone have their emails?

It's quick and it doesn't cost anything. My guess is that a whole lot more people would take part if it was made as convenient as possible. Can't think of anything more convenient than an email.

Busy day...we got what we deserved!!!

I worked this weekend AND all day today...up until 4:29:55 pm...calling...e-mailing...faxing...calling...e-mailing...faxing...etc, etc, etc. Some offices were busy all those I e-mailed and faxed twice! I cataloged 102 calls (not including busys)...88 faxes(thank goodness I pay a flat monthly fee) and 144 e-mails.

Was it all for nothing??? YES and NO! Yes, if it means that nothing in the future will change as a result of it; No, if it means that I, along with my other really concerned activists, are taken seriously by those who received the brunt of our work! We have to STOP being pussies and stand up and demand that our vote and support be paid for with the support of those we elect, on the issues that are most important to us. Is this what is meant by "porkbarrel?" NO...porkbarrel puts money in somebody's pockets...the meeting of our expectations puts issues that will affect us, our children and grandchildren, into the spotlight for the elected representative to see, taste, feel...and most importantly, to respond to and support!

We have been much too complacent in this country with "me, myself and I" included, and it's time (actually, PAST the time) when we need to take an objective look at where we are going. Is it where you want to go? If your answer is NO, then take action! If you can't or won't take action...then donate some money...BUT DO SOMETHING!

If you sit back and stay resigned to the status quo, then you deserve what you get...a country run by megalomaniacs who believe they are above the law! 'Nuff said!...4 now!

Has anyone seen or confirmed this news, which is tucked away near the bottom of a story today from Chicago?

"The day before the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote on Sam Alito, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said he had 37 votes to support a filibuster — not enough."

Durbin's the point man

We have to make sure all open phone lines to the Senators Bob has listed above in both DC and local offices are ONLY getting calls
calling for the filibuster

..and to also tell them to commit to vote NO on cloture again and again and again.

Dayton is supporting the filibuster

Who do I tell off first?

The Dems need to get a spine. They need to stand up and fight for what's worth fighting for. Oh Lord, I fear we need a "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" moment!

Which Senator can talk the longest? LOL

It's not over until the last vote has been cast.

Did you see the NEWSWEEK article? This is perfect timing. It talks a lot about the constitution and the story of Justice Department attorneys who left calling it a constitutional crisis.

Now why would we want to support Alito when we know that he has crowned Bush as the almighty KING GEORGE?

Use this article to make your points.

Democrats have been

Democrats have been notorious for bickering amongst themselves and insulting themselves - that is one of the BIGGEST reasons there's republican president and republican majorities in both houses. We absolutely HAVE to stop this continued string of public insults of other Democrats - WE CAN'T ALL AGREE ON EVERYTHING - STOP insulting Democrats!! You sound more like a republican than a progressive Democrat.

"12:19pm 01/24/06
KBR awarded Homeland Security contract worth up to $385M (HAL) By Katherine Hunt
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- KBR, the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton Co. (HAL) , said Tuesday it has been awarded a contingency contract from the Department of Homeland Security to supports its Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities in the event of an emergency. The maximum total value of the contract is $385 million and consists of a 1-year base period with four 1-year options. KBR held the previous ICE contract from 2000 through 2005. The contract, which is effective immediately, provides for establishing temporary detention and processing capabilities to expand existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations Program facilities in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs, KBR said. The contract may also provide migrant detention support to other government organizations in the event of an immigration emergency, as well as the development of a plan to react to a national emergency, such as a natural disaster, the company said."

They don't need to just speak...they can also read...

out loud of course, from any reading source. Most appropriate would be reading and re-reading from "My Pet Goat."

Even Bush, slow as he is, might get the message.

Aide says he knows how he will vote, but that he never tells before the vote.

Left message urging him to vote against Alito AND support a filibuster.
