Hey Rove: Bring It On!
Karl Rove gave a speech to the RNC today to frame the 2006 campaign just as he framed the 2004 and 2002 campaigns: about national security.
Democrats should stand together in front of the Republican Party headquarters and declare: Bring It On!
Think about that -- the guy who violated national security by leaking the name of an undercover CIA operative during the war he helped start -- wants to make national security an issue...
it was George Bush's pre-9/11 worldview -- his August 6th 2001 worldview to be specific -- that got us in to this mess. Bush was told on August 6th, 2001 that Bin Laden was going to attack the U.S., but stayed on vacation. Now, four and a half years later, despite Bush's promise and threats to the contrary, Bin Laden is still free to taunt the U.S.
Karl and the GOP desperately need to change the subject. The Plame scandal is still ongoing, the Iraq war is a mess, the Abramoff debacle is exploding, the Bush/DeLay Medicare drug plan is a complete disaster....So, Karl is starting the war drumbeat again. Remember, Karl gave a similar speech in 2002 and, in return, we got the Iraq war...
So, he's playing the same hand. The 2002 Rove/GOP political campaign plan spawned the Iraq War. It worked for them electorally before so they're using the same playbook (absent Judith Miller.)
Which country does the GOP start a war with this year in order to further their political agenda?
Georgia10 is on the same wavelength, highlighting the most recent tapes from Bin Laden and al Zawahiri:
Bin Laden's trail went cold 10 months ago and he's on tape making fresh threats against us. Zawahiri wasn't killed in the airstrike, and now he's also on tape taunting us. Karl Rove said today Republicans plan to make security the issue in 2006.
Guess what? So do we.

"Democrats are living in a pre-9/11 world"
Says rove. I'm so flugging sick if hearing this from Rove and his super-power smear machine. Let's make it clear: THE PRE 9/11 WORLD WAS ONE IN WHICH PRESIDENTS THWARTED TERRORISTS - THE POST-9/11 ONE IS THE BUSH ONE WHERE TERRORISTS THWART US! If memory serves me correctly, Clinton thwarted 8 terrorist plots. I shouldn't say Clinton himself, but his administration. Why in the hell is it that this fear tactic of saying "The world changed on 9/11" works!?! The world didn't change on 9/11... we just noticed terrorism because Bush failed to stop this attack. Presumably when he received the memo, "Bin Laden Determined to Strike within the U.S." and shrugged it off.
EXACTLY!!!
Clinton thwarted numerous terrorist plots --- Bush IS a terrorist plot! The incompetence is mind-boggling.
I still firmly believe that if TRUTH prevailed in 2000, and Gore was sworn in, the WTC would still be standing, 3,000 would still be alive, and Iraq wouldn't have been bombed losing hundreds of thousands more lives.
We've never been in more danger since that fiasco of 2000 since these criminals took over.
Don't forget the
2000+ dead American Soldiers and the 16,000+ wounded. How about the coalition forces lost? And of course you nicely pointed out the Iraqis killed and wounded in the indiscriminate bombing by our government. Republican spin is doing their job, and doing us.
He who is willing to give up freedom for safety deserves neither!
Very right Karagon78.
Very right Karagon78. Poor little fellow didn't even have the presence of mind to call the Air Force and ask them to go take a look for those lost airliners that flew into the Towers. I guess that was Clinton's fault too, he probably didn't leave the phone numbers for NORAD, when he left.
Welcome to the forum :)
Proud member of the reality based community.
Bush was told on August 6th, 2001...
"Bush was told on August 6th, 2001 that Bin Laden was going to attack the U.S., but stayed on vacation."
Ironically, Clinton, in his report to the senate at the end of his term stated that he KNEW that Al Qaeda was a large threat to the United States of America and had known for years yet did nothing. Our partie's "savior" actually did nothing to help the US today, when he could of done atleast ONE thing. Alas! He took the easy road and made small changes that only helped for a few years then faded away.

to the extra special powers the republicans gave Clinton to fight bin Laden.
Don't compare Clinton with Bush until the situations are at least comparable. The republicans, during the Clinton administration, called the CA's approach toward bin Laden 'obsessive.'
For one thing, when Clinton was in office there were no concrete charges against bin Laden. That was NOT the case when the Idiot King got in office. He sat in Crawford on his butt, telling intelligence to stand down and people got killed. That made it somehow ok for Bush's republicans wipe their rumps on the Constitution and hand it to the POTUS.
What has Bush done with the power to use the Constitution for toilet paper? Among other things, he supposedly went after bin Laden, but he bagged Hussein. That reminds me - where is bin Laden, now that the all powerful Oz is in office? He also spies on American citizens without going through FISA, which, IIRC, is supposed to keep these Nixon-like activities down to a dull roar. Knowing Bush's MO, if he's spying on American citizens, perhaps he's looking for someone in a totally different country...he's done it before.
Don't come here and compare something that's not comparable or you'll land outside the door on your ignorant ear, and in record time.
Come back with an argument that you can at least defend - or don't come back.
Liar, crook, ignorant King
Name one "ordinary citizen" who "is not" part of a terrorist cell who received a phone call from a foreign terrorist that was "innocent" that has been damaged by the "Evil Bush"...oh excuse me "Richard Hitler Nixon Bush!" All I hear are just parroted accusations...remember your "one Scintilla of evidence standard?"
If clinton had connected the dots so perfectly, why didn't "THE MIGHTY CLINTON" bring Osama down before Bush took office and before he brought the twin towers down after only about 6 months of Bush being in office? Are you telling me all the Twin Towers attack planning, and communication with domestic terriorist cells planning the attack was done after George Bush was elected? How does "well Clinton told Bush, Osama was going to attack us," make Clinton the great American President, and George Bush the "idiot King?" Why so you think it a sign of super-intelligence to say "Bush is a Moron because he failed to connect the dots;" and, then turn around and say when Bush works to connect the dots, and works to thwart terriorist attacks but wisely avoids sharing minute by minute operations with democrat operatives who are looking for any tidbit of information to leak to a world press and to our real ENEMIES, the THROAT SLITTING TERRIORISTS....Bush is a liar and a crook, and wipes his butt on the constitution? Today, you have the luxury of calling the president a liar, a crook, an idiot, etc. But, Bush is struggling in a war declared against us in the middle of the Clinton Adminstration. It is a long term war. We will not remain free for you to do all you 'bellyachin' cussing of a governing administration forever is we do not understand the seriousness of this Islamic War against us. We will not be able to suppress the enemy with a Democrat president or a Republican president until some of you can direct the same degree of hatred toward the Islamic Terrorists as you do George Bush and Republicans in general, and quit trying to hobble and wound the commander in chief in times of war. Name one thing Democrats have proposed or have enacted that is a better plan (not an idea, not an accusation, not a general goal) a PLAN, that is better than what George Bush is doing....I'm willing to listen...I'm willing to vote for a "better plan" but not the best blathering name calling rhetoric artist! Impeaching Bush does nothing to make this country safer. It only exacts revenge for a handful of hatefilled, gut-sour-sorehead losers.
Johnny Reb
So you say
You’re an independent? You claim to be a "Johnny Reb" which would indicate being from the south and supportive of the confederacy in the War Between the States? Yet here you are defending a president and a political policy that is so much like the policies that affected that conflict.
You really need to study history. The history of this country and the history of your beloved George Bush.
Let's start with your comments such as the one about Clinton not going after bin Laden because the Republican Congress would not allow it.
Or the one about how Bush had a briefing memo regarding the bin Laden threat against this country sitting on his desk when he chose to saunter off to Crawford for a month vacation after only 6 months in office.
How about the fact that Dumbass took an oath when he became president (both inaugurations) to uphold the Constitution and then turns around and states in a recorded meeting that the Constitution is "just a damn piece of paper."
And what about your precious war on terrorism. Bush swore to hunt down bin Laden and al Qaeda and bring them in "dead or alive" but instead he attacked Iraq even though there were no ties between them and bin Laden. They even originally called it Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL, hint, hint) and now we have 2232 admitted dead American soldiers from the war for OIL (they don't count the wounded that die after leaving Iraqi soil) which is only 517 short of the number believed to have died at the World Trade Center bombing.
Now I could keep this up for a long time and keep listing all the bull shit you seem to see as Bush positives but I don't have the time nor the energy so let me just leave you with one last fact:
The primary reason fir the Civil War in this country was the perception that the Government was trying to take away the rights of the people and the states. Gee, does spying on American Citizens without following the law, or lying to Congress and the American people about ties between Hussein and bin Laden or giving major no bid contracts to your buddies for emergency services costing the taxpayers BILLIONS of Dollars sound like the kind of acts YOUR forefathers would have put up with?
You are no Johnny Reb, you are just a frightened little man looking for anyone to protect your cowardly ass against a few Islamic extremist.
Personally I am far more afraid of Bush than bin Laden.
He who is willing to give up freedom for safety deserves neither!
Hi John
Hi John,
Our anger stems from Republican INACTION against terrorism not simply the ineptness they bring to any job.
Jim
P.S.
-The arguments made by Republicans have all proven false: Mission Accomplished, Americans would not have to pay for the War, We would be greeted as liberators, etc. (Intellectuals throughout the USA tried to warn fellow Americans before the invasion.)
-The counter argument was and still is: “Yeah but ya have to do something and its better to be safe than sorrow”. This is where you should focus your arguments with me. Many of us knew before hand that the slight gains from invading Iraq would be massively offset by loses.
It remains true that if we throw enough bodies and money at Iraq over the decades to come, then we can, via the adoption of this 51st State, have a chance of making it a better place. I do not believe however that this will ensure that 19 men with box cutters and a plan, will not decide to attack us again.
If Republicans wish to come clean and note that we will have to give up our children and our standard of living for decades on end in order to establish one new democracy in the hopes that fewer people on the planet will get razor blades and attack us, then my anger would ebb a bit but not my objection to the absurdity of the proposition.
If you track my posts you will see that I had hoped for a far more massive invasion of Afghanistan and an immediate return to Economic Power. Instead we are dead in the water in more ways than one. I have no desire to fight you because I see Republicans leading us all into a fox hole together. They are dragging this Nation down to military and economic defeat.
(To check yourself for bias try this: Ask yourself how you would feel if Republicans invaded ______? Now fill in the blank with a Nation you would never dream we should invade. The reason we all got into the “better safe than sorrow” arguments was simply because Republicans starting talking up Iraq. One can get 1/3 rd of the Nation ready to do battle with ANY Nation on the Planet by simply talking about them.)
Hey, Johnny needs some
Hey, Johnny needs some Rehab, Republicans wouldn't let Clinton go after Osama. Since you say Clinton didn't hunt down Osama in the middle of his administration, what the hell is Bush's excuse? He has been in office over 5 years and he ain't found Osama - hell, Bush ain't even looking for him. Bush got all distracted by Saddam. The President needs to be impeached because he has FAILED in every move he has made. He received a PDB saying Osama was going to strike in New York and Washington - why does Bush say we were caught off guard? Obviously the government knew something but you want to give Bush the benefit of a doubt. That is why Bush needs to be thrown out of the White House - we deserve better. We don't need to "give him a break" because we were attacked on his watch because that gives him no incentive to make better decisions.

Just another p****
falling hook, line and sinker for this War against Terror bullshit. If he is SO CONCERNED, he should go to Iraq and fight themthar terrorists himself.
We have nothing to fear except the fear mongers themselves.
OOOHHHH! Rove brought out the Boogie Man. I'm so scared. I'm a pussy named Johnny Reb. Little diaper baby.

Ohhh, "impeachhim" is from Chappelle Hill, NC. There is a Chapel Hill in NC but I am not sure about a Chappelle Hill unless Dan Quayle is spelling.
Mr. Jack-off from Chappelle Hill, can you remember when all the Republicans were screaming, "wag the dog" to Clinton? The Republicans controlled Congress wouldn't let Bill scratch his dick without their permission. And now look at King George, the Republicans control Congress and NEVER say he has gone too far - even invading a country for LIES. Republicans have control of all branches of government and yet Bush STILL has to break all the laws and his only defense is that Clinton did it too - SHOW ME!!!! SHOW ME where Clinton violated the Constitution. SHOW ME where Clinton emptied our treasury into Halliburtons pocket. SHOW ME where Clinton was blaming Bush Sr. for everything that happened on his watch. SHOW ME where there was ever a time when the Clintons weren't being investigated for something but yet no one wants to uncover the Bush lies swept under the carpet. SHOW ME where anyone on Clinton's staff went to the press to out CIA operatives names. SHOW ME where Clinton was unable to account for BILLIONS of dollars like what has disappeared in Iraq. SHOW ME where Clinton was cheap and didn't give the troops the equipment they needed. SHOW ME where Clinton was making money with military contracts.

Stick-poking trolls sounds like a fun new game. Maybe we could sell the idea to Hadley Bros...;-)

Stick poking? Na, I like the idea of little troll heads popping up out of holes and taking a rubber mallet and beating some sense into them.

Whack a troll?
Sounds like a fun game to me.
Seriously, the trolls will always congregate in the nodes that are more upsetting to the republicans and their gestapo. Apparently, they have a great love for Rove and they don't like seeing him dissed.
Did you just say your name
Did you just say your name was Maximus? Are you after the Emperor? Maximus, Maximus!!

It is to laugh
Red Rover, Red Rover...it wasn't democrats in charge when our people were killed and it isn't democrats in charge, who have consistently failed to bring Public Enemy #1 to justice. That's what happens when the perp is somewhere near Pakistan but the POTUS attacks Iraq. It would be nice if the GOP could at least get the right country!
