Fighting Dems strategy goes kerplunk
So much for the Democrats’ Fighting Dem strategy, which is based on the myth that the right wing won’t attack veterans. It seems they’ve forgotten the attacks on Max Cleland, John Kerry, and Paul Hackett.

Murtha's War Hero Status Called Into Question
By Marc Morano and Randy Hall
CNSNews.com Staff
January 13, 2006(CNSNews.com) - Having ascended to the national stage as one of the most vocal critics of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq, Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman John Murtha has long downplayed the controversy and the bitterness surrounding the two Purple Hearts he was awarded for military service in Vietnam…
A Cybercast News Service investigation also reveals that one of Murtha's former Democratic congressional colleagues and a fellow decorated Vietnam veteran, Don Bailey of Pennsylvania, alleges that Murtha admitted during an emotional conversation on the floor of the U.S. House in the early 1980s that he did not deserve his Purple Hearts.
Unlike Kerry, Murtha is fighting back.
Questions about my record are clearly an attempt to distract attention from the real issue, which is that our brave men and women in uniform are dying and being injured every day in the middle of a civil war that can be resolved only by the Iraqis themselves.
Thanks to Hoffmania for the tip.

This attack on Murtha's purple hearts was...
covered repeatedly on ABC radio news early this morning.
Son of the Swifties has been resurected.
Worked before, they figure it will work again. With their challenge, I want to see the ignoramouses produce their DD 214s before coming forward. I demand that their medal certificate citations be produced at the same time.
Remember it is this unfeeling and misguided administration that splits fine hairs as to whether a dead troop died in combat...or in transport or hospital...because it makes a difference in the benefits their families receive in lieu of the life of their loved one.
Alito, like so many Repugnants of his generation, dodged the draft. Chickenhawks all. Yet they slime the memory of men and women who gave all for their country.
So true, Grinch.
Repeatedly, those who are attacking the reputations of our servicemen(women) are
often those who never served our country and never put themselves in harm's way for anyone or anything.
Hypocritical Bastards!
Murtha is far above all of them put together.
And what do the merc's do..
Those merc's dishonoring our flag and traditions will line up behind the chicken hawk administration and sell out Murtha.
No hope for the dishonored mercenary force. Cashier them, strip them of citizenship and turn them over to the Iraqi courts for war crimes prosecution.
Karl Rove Politics
This is an administration with a President who clearly did not show up for service in the guard, Cheney had 5 deferments, Karl Rove could not have made it through boot camp.
The shame of it all is the attacks on men and women who did serve in the military and are still serving our country by holding public office.
Murtha is an outstanding individual who served this country well. Is anyone surprised that George Bush and his band of thugs would act any differently, they have no respect for anyone who served if the person rejects their policy.
Bush's legacy is in the toilet and he has nothing to lose at this point.
Once the GOP realizes that surely they will implement some type of damage control. But I feel they are so drunk with power that they do not see what the future holds for their party.
I agree with the many posts that state the people who are attacking our servicemen and women are people who have never served.
Thanks to Bush and Cheney our country has never looked so bad to the world.
All vets should be outraged at the attacks levied by this administration.
2006 elections cannot come soon enough, we must take control of Congress and IMPEACH!
Fighting Dems might surprise them
You can pick people off one at a time, but it is hard to pick off an entire unit all at once. The Fighting Dems may yet surprise the neocons - that is, after all their purpose, to support each other to hold public office and stand on their collective record. And they know about fighting as a unit.

Well, Rev...
... underestimate Republican hatemongering at the peril of all of us. It's happened too many times.
Don't ever say "can't" when it comes to estimating the depths to which Republicans will stoop.
