Bush on the Constitution: 'It's just a goddamned piece of paper'

GOP leaders told Bush that his hardcore push to renew the more onerous provisions of the [Patriot] act could further alienate conservatives still mad at the President from his botched attempt to nominate White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.
“I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”
“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”
“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”
I’ve talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper.”
Attorney General Alberto [Geneva Convention is "rather quaint"] Gonzales, while still White House counsel, wrote that the “Constitution is an outdated document.”
Aside from the below classic quote, don't forget that Bush said back on the 2000 campaign trail, "There oughta be limits to freedom."

As for myself, I am an Atomic Physicist, presently building an estate for myself of my own design and built of my own hands. So too the furniture. So too the tools. Etc. In other words, I believe in a life of passion and find it trivial to extend a measure of sympathy to those who were not as lucky as I. So yes, we would disagree on the final measure of compassion granted to fellow citizens but I think you are missing some simple realities. (I referred to a few of them above. There are more.)
I have noticed that it is often those with only mediocre skills and passions that pump themselves up with Republicanism. You will not find a Nobel Prize winner believing Gays are evil, etc.
Democrats certainly do not need your vote, but you need ours. Not a thing has gone well since this modern Republican Party stepped into power, yet once again, not a moment of reflection occurs.
Good luck with you career. I’d stay and fight some more but computer systems are beckoning me for attention.

I went along with the model
I went along with the model persona but I definitely wondered what percentage of models actually think well of themselves. I have seen models dejected by ugly looking guys making comments.

It' obvious that Bush doesn't give a shit about our Constitution - just look at how he has ruled this country. And Mr. War Whore applauding what a fine Constitution the Iraqis are going to be voting on is a JOKE! Voting for a Constitution that is NOT what the people want BUT putting in 2 clauses in just so they can change it later because they can't agree. What a fine document. Is this the document our 2,100+ troops have died for? And if the people of Iraq can't work together on a document, just wait and see what the new "government" brings.

The Media Is Prejudice
I'm a believer - Thanks for the blog. How is it that the media can take out a covert operative like valery plaim based on two unnamed sources, yet, based on three unnamed sources, we're too scared to publish a conversation Bush had where he expresses his attitude about our constitution. Something we should all be concerned about.
The media is crooked, biased, one sided and bought, and this is the proof, before we can get our country back, we need to get the media back.
If Mr. Bush is innocent of making this statement, he can just say so, if not, then he can apologize.

If this is the opinion that Bush holds concerning the Constitution... then he probably secretly uses the American flag to wipe his butt too. And talk about spitting on the graves of the soldiers that died for our country, so that we may have Freedom..... I cannot think of a better way to disrespect America, as well as the American people, than by calling the Constitution a "goddamn piece of paper."
I really think the guy has overstepped his boundaries with this one.... and I just hope that the American people wake up and realize what a non-patriotic, poor-excuse-for-a-leader we have on our hands. BUSH is the threat that we have to worry about.
The REAL act of Patriotism is when an American citizen stands up for their rights... And if that means against the President, then SO BE IT. As Thomas Jefferson said.."Does the government fear us? Or do we fear the government? When the people fear the government, tyranny has found victory. The federal government is our servant, not our master!"
