Why is Democratic Party's Israeli-Palestinian policy bankrupt?I'm on the National Jewish Democratic Council's e mail list. For some odd reason, they hardly ever send any notices concering the Israeli Palestinian conflict. But when they do they raise the ire of this progressive Zionist. The NJDC & the NDC itself seem to believe that the only credible position to take on the conflict is one that is hawkishly pro-Israel. When Howard Dean goes to Israel he meets mostly with Likud politicians and security hawks. You'd never know there's a dove in Israel based on his Israel trip blog. In fact, there aren't any Palestinians or Israeli Arabs in the region either based on the names he met as listed on the NJDC site. |

You are asking us to comment on the bankruptcy of
a democratic I/P policy? Why us? Why not take it to the party itself...or to the Bush/Cheney cabal for answers?
We are mostly just Dems. We come in a variety of shapes, sizes, ages, genders, and economic backgrounds. We are mostly concerned on this site with regaining control a our own country which is quite out of control because of our leadership.
What would you have us do? Bill Clinton got both sides to sit down at the same table. We thought at the time that possibly we would have peace over there in our time. The Repugs got the Palestinians to walk away.
You're an admitted Zionist--how would you bring peace to your country and those countries around you?
If you wish a dialog, we can have a dialog. If you wish to beat us over the head because YOUR country does not have peace...we might have problems. Give it a try.
being a Zionist does NOT mean I'm an Israeli
You do understand that in saying I'm a Zionist I'm not saying I'm an Israeli, don't you? Because it sounds to me like you're confusing the 2. I'm an American Jew. Just because I say I'm a progressive Zionist doesn't mean I magically become an Israeli or that I stop being an American.

No offense intended, but we
No offense intended, but we have enough trouble keeping the neoconservative hawks in check in our own country. Israel and its problems will need to take a backseat on the US political landscape until we can regain control of our own destiny.
Howard Dean is most likely talking to the people that he believes can actually make a difference in the Middle East.
the Israeli Palestinian conflict cannot take a backseat
The Middle East--& esp. the Israeli Palestinian conflict--is one of the most important & most dangerous foreign policy issues facing this country. If the Democrats don't have a reasonable, forward-thinking & progressive policy regarding it then why should people vote for them?
And I say all this as a dyed in the wool life-long Democrat.

You have your opinion, and I
You have your opinion, and I have mine. Your opinion is swayed by divided loyalities, and somewhat by religion. My opinion is based on nothing but pure, unadulterated, patriotic Americanism.
The United States is not, and can not be, the policemen of the world. If Israelis want to assert their own brand of liberalism, that is fine. If American Jews (of either political Party) want the United States to intervene in Israeli politics, they will indeed need to take a back seat until we Liberal Americans can clean up our own domestic political mess.
You would do better to rail against the neocon PNAC Republicans for supporting the Saudis, than to blame Howard Dean for the problems in the Middle East. For that is where the problem truly lies: Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, the Israelis have no oil, so the neocons will pay them lip service. Your statement:
is typical of a special interest group seeking to put its own selfish interests before the wants and needs of ALL Americans.
Until Democrats are once again in control of at least the Congress, we can do nothing to help your cause. We have our own domestic battles to fight, and they are more important to the American people, and the world at large, than any one nation's inability to solve their own internal problems.

For one thing, the vast
For one thing, the vast majority of Americans are chronically underpaid due to money being siphoned off by the least efficient of us. How? By being baited by every other issues –including tonight’s manufactured “War on Christmas”, the vast majority no longer vote as a block and have therefore lost the big stick of the voting booth.
The easiest way to ensure this windfall for the few is to keep kids (like some I know) indoctrinated, so that “Niggers, Jews, and Faggots” roll off their lips.
Yours is a real cause and theirs is not, but it is not the whole ball of wax. A couple hundred million people deserve better and Democrats can provide that.
