Bad system protects Bad teachers
A Bad system protects Bad Teachers:
Another example of the "system" working to keep bad teachers employed. Just days after abuse incidents, a teacher is given an excellent annual evaluation, and transferred. Now she's accused again. NEW LIBERALS SHOULD BE ON THE SIDE OF PARENTS AND STUDENTS, NOT ON THE SIDE OF THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS. REGARDLESS OF INCOME OR ABILITY TO PAY, EVERY PARENT SHOULD HAVE THE CHOICE TO DECIDE WHICH SCHOOL BEST SERVES THEIR CHILD.

Issues like that are better handled
at the local level, dealing with the local school board. We don't need to federally-legislate everything that happens in the US, you know. It would be more effective if good liberals ran for offices in local school boards, than to take you up on your suggestion, IMO.
I know all about bad teachers. I've dealt with a few. I've also dealt with some very good ones - good teachers who don't need some politically-partisan group sitting in DC telling them how to do their job at the local level.
This just sounds like more union hating to me. I'm not biting.
If pure religion is the criterion to denominate candidates, those who make a noise about it must be rejected; for their wrangle about it, proves that they are void of it. ~John Leland, July 5, 1802.
First off Craig...
please do not use caps as you have used them in your threadstarter. It is akin to screaming in a crowded room and is frowned upon on the net.
Your link to your site was interesting. Never have I seen a neocon site dressed up as a dem or liberal. I would almost suspect you lived in Fresno, CA.
What a bunch of horsepuckey.
Liberalism means open-minded to facts/logic
Conservatives in my mind whether of the right or the left get their opinion from: religion, history, tradition, current realities, etc. and then they seek facts that corroborate and bolster.
A fiscal conservative is going to adovcate tax cuts, and is looking for the best argument for them.
A social conservative is going to be against abortion, and is looking fo the most persuasive case to make.
I am a NewLiberal, which means I'm looking at each issue, including as much info. from as many legitimate sources as possible, and then deciding: What is best for the American people?
This is what the Democrat party needs. People who aren't dedicated to a special interest group, but to building up the greatest country in the world.
I'm 100% pro-choice because I think free countries need to honor the sanctity of a woman's body. That doesn't mean I can't acknowledge the evil of abortion, but I think that abortion is a lesser evil than govt. tyranny.
On education, how is this position NOT the liberal democrat position?:
No matter how much money you make, we the govt. are going to give you are check/voucher for the avg. amount spent per child in your state ($12,000+), and you get to choice:
home school
neighbors work together
private school w/ a secular mission
public school (local w/no central govt. mandates)
So every American will have enough money to give their child a good education, and the choice to determine for themeselves what that means to them.
Instead our party stands with the unions:
remember 2002:
when our party devised a new Homeland Security Dept. (wise/unwise?)
The President opposed it. We won that argument so he flip/flopped.
Then the President demanded the dept. have less union protections/civil service protections than other govt. agencies.
We fought for the unions, he said, "I want to protect you the American people with a H.S. dep., , they want to protect the unions".
The unions demanded we fight, we fought, they won in 2002. Immediately the dept. was created with less union protections.
We turned a victory in to a big defeat because of our special interests groups.
We need to think clearly on all issues, and be NewLiberals.

Syn: Generous; bountiful; munificent; beneficent; ample; large; profuse; free.
Usage: Liberal, Generous. Liberal is freeborn, and generous is highborn. The former is opposed to the ordinary feelings of a servile state, and implies largeness of spirit in giving, judging, acting, etc. The latter expresses that nobleness of soul which is peculiarly appropriate to those of high rank, -- a spirit that goes out of self, and finds its enjoyment in consulting the feelings and happiness of others. Generosity is measured by the extent of the sacrifices it makes; liberality, by the warmth of feeling which it manifests.

We must learn from the past, live in the present, and prepare for the future. In doing so, we increase the promise that is part of being human. Nothing in this world has ever been accomplished without passion.
liberal needs to mean being against a bad system
Liberal needs to mean that we stand with parents and students against a govt. system that allows people's dreams to go unfulfilled.
To continue to stand for:
lower class size
more pay for teachers
and not for real reform is dangerous.
let's make the word "liberal" safe again by linking it to real education reform that puts us on the side of avg. americans.
