Harriet Miers Appt--Pundits do not have large voter blocs.!
Ater following the H Meirs coverage all
week , including the Sunday Talk Shows
IMO, Bush stays in the driver's seat on
this one.
Yes, influential RepublicanPundits continue to squeal like stuck pigs
because one their carefully cultivated
ideologues was not chosen. Both Neocons
and Movement Conservatives had worked for
years cultivating the Luddigs ,McConnels,
RogersBrown, Owens-- you kow the list.
They wanted Judges who would produce
certain outcomes. Judges they could be
sure be Pro-Business, Overturn RoeVWade.
Set back Affirmative Action.
While John Roberts is consevative both
the left and right were not fully comfortable with him. At least for the movement Consevatives and Neocons Roberts had the innate billiance and
charming personality, they could swallow
that nominstion. Their hope and desire
swas that the next appointment would
be "one of their own". The president
did not oblige and the harranging has
not yet let up.
One of their biggest problems is they
do not voting bloc consituencies.
Pundits cannot deliver votes.
There are those who can and do deliver
votes for Republicans unfailingly.
Yep, the Christian Coalition. So far
the Christian Coalition--The Falwells,
Robertson's . Dobsons are sticking with
Bush and supporting HMeirs. These people
produce votes. Please note not one
Republican Senator has come out and taken a stand against Meirs. Oh, they
may whine complain or say "I have to learn more about this candidate ". Their
staffers may make criticisms---not the
Senators. The Robertsons are sending
messages loud and clear via their TV
Programming. 2006 is coming and the
Republicans in the House and Senate
had better remember where the voters
are. They are not with these "Movement
Conservatives".
Furthermore this sets up the perenniel
attack on Democrats. "Those Godless
Democrats would never support a Goc-fearing Christian Woman". Democrats
are absolutely hositle to religion,
In the end the elitist wing of the Republican Party and the hostile to
religion democrats may just be rendered
irrevelant.
Democrats from really red states who
depend on Republican voters will get
the pressure from the Chrisitan Coalition. In the past these Senators
voted with their Republican Constituents
more than Democratic Constituents on
the big votes. I am waiting to see
what happens this time.

The debate has brought some truth
to the surface. The republicans have openly admitted they have conspired for 30 years to "fix" the court, and conspire to impose an evangelical religious idealogy on this nation, which violates the Constitution. They apparently have found someone willing to shread the Constitution.
Mourn not the dead that in the cool earth lie, but rather mourn the apathetic throng, the coward, and the meek, who see the world's great anguish and its wrong, and dare not speak.
