Katrina Aftermath Produces More Demands to Impeach Bush
The more Americans learn about Hurricane Katrina - before, during and after - the more they are demanding Bush's impeachment. Read Brad DeLong and even Paul Craig Roberts, a former Reagan official.
Before: Bush replaced FEMA's first-rate director, James Lee Witt, with a corrupt and greedy hack, Joe Allbaugh - even as Texas was being sued for Allbaugh's obstruction of the investigation of a corrupt funeral parlor owner who gave large contributions to Bush. Allbaugh hired Mike Brown as chief counsel after he was fired by the International Arabian Horse Association; when Allbaugh left FEMA, he chose Brown to replace him.
In 2004, when several hurricanes hit the battleground state of Florida, FEMA poured money into the hands of Floridians to buy votes for Bush.
During: Bush strummed while New Orleans drowned, and ate cake with John McCain.
After: As hurricane victims at the Superdome and Convention Center demanded help from Bush, Rove sent Bush to fly over New Orleans to demonstrate Bush's concern.
When he appeared before cameras on the White House lawn, he spoke words that were supplied by Karl Rove through his earpiece.
When Americans complained about Bush's flyover, Rove arranged a visit with a series of stops. But each stop was phonier than the one before. In New Orleans, FEMA created the illusion of progress on the 17th Street levee, which was gone the next day when Sen. Mary Landrieu visited with ABC News. And Bush's photo-op stopped helicopters from delivering desperately needed food.
Meanwhile Rove went into overdrive on the Blame Game, spreading the outright lie that Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco did not declare a State of Emergency, when she certainly did. Rove secretly gave this Big Lie to the Washington Post and Newsweek, using the same smear tactics he used against every political opponent from the beginning of his career, including the criminal outing of Valerie Plame.

Kathleen Blanco
jrushton
Bush wanted Kathleen Blanco to turn the clean up and everything over to the federal government. Thank God she refused.
Of course he wants control. He needs to turn all news coming out of there to be only the news he wants us to hear. He doesn't want us to see any more dead bodies or devastion. He wants to make everyone believe he is the hero that is fixing everything.
Then there is the matter of all the money that is coming in from all sources. You notice all day today the only source of help he has talked about if "Faith based" organizations. He knows that the only people he has behind him now is the Christians that still want to take over the Government, Schools and Social Service Programs.
He doesn't want us to hear anymore about how other Countries feel about this mess and how they feel about him. He doesn't want us to know how much money is coming in. He doesn't want us to know about all the free oil or gas we have been given. Believe me, we will still pay the going price for it.
The reason it took him so long to react to this emergency was the fact that his brains were gone. Condi was buying shoes and who knows where his other brains were. While he was trying to gather them up he almost buried himself. But he's full of vim and vigor now. I think he's finally gone too far. No one believes a word he says anymore. Even his brains can't save him now and they don't seem to want to.

the size of the dog in the fight..
the mayor of New Orleans, needs to be congradulated for having the courage that so many democrats and americans lack. to speak up and tell the truth. Having earned a bs and mba degree in the USA am deepley saddend by the most recent events.where is the leadership in democrats, where is that one voice that is willing to fight for the small man. sad..sad
thanks!!
this is an excellent list of articles :)
you are welcome. This list
You are most welcome. This list grows every day so stay tuned : P
BTW, thank you for this site and all of your hard work!
Bob, if you remember
George promised $9B to Fraudia for hurricane relief prior to election day 2004, and just weeks later transfered those funds to the general fund. No photo op for that event, though. I think I posted the article. The local community in NW Florida had been calling for FEMA to open their books prior to Katrina's arrival. Everybody wants to know where the money went, and what the criteria is for qualifying for FEMA funds.
Mourn not the dead that in the cool earth lie, but rather mourn the apathetic throng, the coward, and the meek, who see the world's great anguish and its wrong, and dare not speak.
Ralph Chaplin
Lies and more Lies!!!!
Mr. Mayfield of the National Hurricane Center in Miami said that he gave Bush and the Homeland Security Director 5 days advance warning of hurricane Katrina and the devastation that could occur. They are both denying that they received this information. So, therefore I am under the impression that they went on about their business (whatever that was or is) while Ms. Blanco and the Mayor of NO were asking for help in preparation for Katrina.
Now all of the fingerpointing and blame that is going on by The Whitehouse Administration and FEMA is sickening. It should be like Harry Trueman said "The buck stops here". The one at the top is the one to take all of the responsibility for the failures. I am just so sick over all of this!
I guess in a few months we will know how many more lives Bush is responsible for!
Neglect by Bush
I am sad that I hear no Democrats speaking up against Bush in how he didn't handle any rescue attempts immediately after hurricane Katrina. In my opinion President Bush is directly responsible for the deaths resulting from lack of food, water and medical care after the hurricane. I'm saddened in how he is shifting his lack of responsibility onto other people. You never heard in other hurricanes that the mayor or governor needed to ask the government to help rescue hurricane victims. It's a joke. If a parent had a child die due to lack of food, water and medical it would be called murder. Why isn't any of the Democratic party speaking against Bush on his lack of rescue immediately after the hurricane. I guess it just goes to show that we have no one in Washington working for the poor and downtrodden in this country.
Bushe's neglect
jrushton
I agree with you 100% concerne23. Today no matter what a citizen in this country has happen to them there are no accidents. Everything is your fault and you aren't allowed to blame anyone else. If your child dies you don't even get a moment to mourn or get over the shock. You are arrested and taken to jail. There isn't a parent on the face of the Earth that hasn't been negligent at some point and possibly endangered their child without meaning to. Most of the time they are lucky. But if that one incident leads to a childs death you could spend your life in prison. Bush would be the first one to put you there.
I feel that Democrats have been just as guilty as Bush in the sense that they have been guilty by ommision. If that is the right word. They knew better than we did what was going on but they were so afraid they wouldn't be re-elected that they just kept quiet. They wouldn't take a stand. At this very moment they are still as quiet as ever. I guess they are waiting until the last shoe drops and it is clear to them which side to fall on.
I just hope that some brand new people with some brand new ideas step up to the plate. Some people who honestly care about our country and money is somewhere at the bottom of their list. Maybe I'm dreaming.
Once again, I need to point
Once again, I need to point out that not ALL Democrats are to blame. It is the DLC DINOs who are pandering to the neocons in Washington, and they need to be replaced.
We need to take our Party back in 2006 AND 2008.
I really can not speak right
I really can not speak right now. I am so filled with curse word after curse word that I can’t really formulate sentences. I will try something short:
This would not have been ANYTHING like it was IF REPUBLICANS were not a wholly moronic bunch of incompetents. They will lose us this Nation. This too is not the end of them driving the Nation into the dirt.
Drag Queen Hannity was just on Fox whimpering about not affixing blame. BULLSHIT!!! They never take even a second out of their slovenly, uneducated, fully selfish lives to discover that THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE WORLD.
Get it Repugs? You are the biggest bunch of lazy scum bags the world has ever known. You know nothing about God. Nothing about Science. Nothing about governance. Get off your lazy traitorous asses and make at least a microscopic contribution to this Nation. OPEN A FUCKING BOOK! GET A REAL JOB NOT JUST A SWINDLERS ONE. PEOPLE ARE FUCKING DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU AND YOU WILL NOT SPEND A MOMENT OF REFLECTION WILL YOU?
See that didn’t work. I remind myself right now of David Letterman’s “Foul mouth Librarian.”
I just took a casual stroll
I just took a casual stroll through Free Republic to get a feel for their reactions to this disaster. What I found was a total lack of concern for the victims of Katrina, and an overwhelming amount of vitriol for anyone who dares to criticize the mismanagement by Dubya and the Neocons.
Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I didn't see one call for aid for the victims. No mention of fundraisers, volunteerism, or even for moral support for the survivors. All I saw was post after post defending Dubya and his administration, and/or villifying the "leftys" for daring to speak up.
They are truly a pitiful lot, and a sad bunch of posers pretending to be Americans. I sincerely hope that this group does not represent all Republicans, and I suspect that they don't. They do however, represent the sheep who are following the neoconservative cabal of their Party, and seem eager to drink the Kool-Aid.
Yes, I usually mean
Yes, I usually mean "Republican Leaders" when I use the word "Republican". This includes Freepers. I certainly do not mean conservative folks.
This has been a plummet to the bottom ever since Republicans took over the Government. It will continue. They are all dullards with a seeming genetic inability to do anything complex. They belong squarely in their Kingdom of Mediocrity. They gain a slight bit of knowledge and pronounce themselves sages. Pathetic.
When the troops get home I hope they enjoy some gentlemanly conversations with the deluge of Stop Loss producing Freeper wimps at their local bars.
Bill Clinton
is the one serious voice that in this crises people would havelisten to. But now he and Hillary have become, "son," and by association, "daughter-in-law" of the senior Bushes. Hillary in her pursuit of the presidency '08 has become totally compromised. She is probably being pushed by the Repugs because in this "angry white male backlash" world, she would be easiest to defeat.
Voodoo
I am for trying voodoo. Something has to work.
Not until self reflection
Not until self reflection leads to questioning will anything work. The Fake Churches and Swindling Businessmen KNOW everything.
I suppose if the DLC can be defeated, and Democrats put forth a bold plan that loses the above two groups, but gains the 50% who do not bother to vote we would also gain back a strong America.
Tracking Katrina: Blanco
Tracking Katrina: Blanco Requests Federal State of Emergency
Saturday, August 27, 2005
From the NewsChannel 6 Storm Spotting Team:
Governor Blanco requested $9,000,000 and a federal state of emergency declared Saturday. She sent the following letter to President Bush:
Dear Mr. President:
Under the provisions of Section 501 (a) of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5121-5206 (Stafford Act), and implemented by 44 CFR § 206.35, I request that you declare an emergency for the State of Louisiana due to Hurricane Katrina for the time period beginning August 26, 2005, and continuing. The affected areas are all the southeastern parishes including the New Orleans Metropolitan area and the mid state Interstate I-49 corridor and northern parishes along the I-20 corridor that are accepting the thousands of citizens evacuating from the areas expecting to be flooded as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
In response to the situation I have taken appropriate action under State law and directed the execution of the State Emergency Plan on August 26, 2005 in accordance with Section 501 (a) of the Stafford Act. A State of Emergency has been issued for the State in order to support the evacuations of the coastal areas in accordance with our State Evacuation Plan and the remainder of the state to support the State Special Needs and Sheltering Plan.
Pursuant to 44 CFR § 206.35, I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments, and that supplementary Federal assistance is necessary to save lives, protect property, public health, and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a disaster. I am specifically requesting emergency protective measures, direct Federal Assistance, Individual and Household Program (IHP) assistance, Special Needs Program assistance, and debris removal.
Preliminary estimates of the types and amount of emergency assistance needed under the Stafford Act, and emergency assistance from certain Federal agencies under other statutory authorities are tabulated in Enclosure A.
The following information is furnished on the nature and amount of State and local resources that have been or will be used to alleviate the conditions of this emergency:
. Department of Social Services (DSS): Opening (3) Special Need Shelters (SNS) and establishing (3) on Standby.
. Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH): Opening (3) Shelters and establishing (3) on Standby.
. Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP): Providing generators and support staff for SNS and Public Shelters.
. Louisiana State Police (LSP): Providing support for the phased evacuation of the coastal areas.
. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (WLF): Supporting the evacuation of the affected population and preparing for Search and Rescue Missions.
Mr. President

. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD): Coordinating traffic flow and management of the evacuations routes with local officials and the State of Mississippi.
The following information is furnished on efforts and resources of other Federal agencies, which have been or will be used in responding to this incident:
. FEMA ERT-A Team en-route.
I certify that for this emergency, the State and local governments will assume all applicable non-Federal share of costs required by the Stafford Act.
I request Direct Federal assistance for work and services to save lives and protect property.
(a) List any reasons State and local government cannot perform or contract for performance, (if applicable).
(b) Specify the type of assistance requested.
In accordance with 44 CFR § 206.208, the State of Louisiana agrees that it will, with respect to Direct Federal assistance:
1. Provide without cost to the United States all lands, easement, and rights-of-ways necessary to accomplish the approved work.
2. Hold and save the United States free from damages due to the requested work, and shall indemnify the Federal Government against any claims arising from such work;
3. Provide reimbursement to FEMA for the non-Federal share of the cost of such work in accordance with the provisions of the FEMA-State Agreement; and
4. Assist the performing Federal agency in all support and local jurisdictional matters.
In addition, I anticipate the need for debris removal, which poses an immediate threat to lives, public health, and safety.
Pursuant to Sections 502 and 407 of the Stafford Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5192 & 5173, the State agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the United States of America for any claims arising from the removal of debris or wreckage for this disaster. The State agrees that debris removal from public and private property will not occur until the landowner signs an unconditional authorization for the removal of debris.
I have designated Mr. Art Jones as the State Coordinating Officer for this request. He will work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in damage assessments and may provide further information or justification on my behalf.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Babineaux Blanco
Governor

Response to Jim
I absolutely know how you feel, Jim. IMO these freeper bastards are the best argument I can think of for abortion. I hate them with every fiber of my being and I wish them in the deepest pit of their own god's hell. To all the appeasers out there, don't even try to tell me not to descend to their level because someone has to be willing to do to them what they do to us. They are the willing accomplices of the Bush cabal and are just as guilty as he is of the deaths of thousands of Americans and Iraqis. I will fight them as long as there is breath in my body.
