Sept. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Gasoline surged as much as 9.3 percent after Hurricane Katrina shut at least eight refineries, reducing U.S. fuel production by more than 10 percent and leading to scattered shortages.
Gasoline futures have soared this week after the storm swept through Louisiana and Mississippi, flooding refineries and shutting down pipelines. Pump prices yesterday jumped 50 cents to more than $3 a gallon in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota, said Brad Proctor, founder of Gaspricewatch, which relies on volunteers to track retail markets.
The first refineries "will come on in six or seven days, and the last ones probably in three to four weeks, and that's going to create some shortages," said Charles Maxwell, senior energy analyst at Weeden & Co. in Greenwich, Connecticut. Pump prices for most of the U.S. will "even out at somewhere around $3.50 to $4. That is going to be a shock to the system." ...
"If we don't get electricity back and don't get the pipelines back and don't get the refineries back for maybe a month, it could go up to $6" a gallon, said Roger Anderson, senior energy scholar at Columbia University in New York.

Just saw a gas sign - $5.89 a gallon in Atlanta
CNN just flashed an image of a gas station sign in Atlanta, $5.89 a gallon for rot-gut regular and over six beans for the higher grades of Texas Mafia Gold... The pipeline is shut down so the supply of go juice in Atlanta is drying up. Better top off your tanks!
Looks like Mother Nature's
Looks like Mother Nature's took the side of Osama rather than hard-handed George (W)arlock Bush.

Does he care?? NOT! It took him till Wednesday to get home from his 'VACATION' while people were drowning in the flood water..he was probably home trying to read those couple of pages of "My Pet Goat" but couldn't figure out the words!!!!!!!!
Of all gas consumers, Bush may be biggest
JENNIFER LOVEN Associated Press
WASHINGTON - Getting President Bush from here to there consumes an enormous amount of fuel, whether he's aboard Air Force One, riding in a helicopter or on the ground in a heavily armored limousine. The bill gets steeper every day as the White House is rocked by the same energy prices as regular drivers. Taxpayers still foot the bill.
Almost every vehicle Bush uses is custom-made to add security and communications capabilities, and the heavier weight of these guzzlers further drives up gas and jet fuel costs. read more...
Gas Prices
The oil companies have most of the money already. They will use every reason, real (such as the production slowdown caused by Katrina), or fabricated. How much longer are we going to allow big business to control our 'by and for the people' government?
Price of Gas
I stopped using gas on April 19. My health was going in the pits and, dammit, every drop I use goes to the slime that support Bush. So I just decided enough was enough. My car is parked, pending a real emergency, and I use my feet, the bus, and my bike. Two don't use any gasoline at all, and the other one is burning fuel even if I don't get on it, so I don't increase the money to Bush's criminal friends that way, either. I suggest that everyone who sees the country in the clutches of a criminal conspiracy, cut your gas purchases 95 percent like I did. This could cost them billions. They are only gonna dump the guy if and when they perceive it hurting them. As far as I can see, the people who attack him every chance they get still drive too many miles. When your annual mileage is measured in hundreds of miles, then you can say you care.
