who do we not protect
when a scumbag commits a crime against us, it is against our ethics to retaliate....and we as a nation regard revenge crime as a crime never the less. But I must point out that this guy walked on 3 gs bail. If you run over crosses where I live you don't get 3 gs bail. You get $300,000 bail. He used a vehicle as a weapon, and the definition as applied to the law is not the result of the act in terms of damage, but of fear. This may sound like horse crap but I spend lots of time in lawyers offices. If there were a lawman of any sort present, and he was afraid to any degree....BINGO ......aggrevated assault. Now any one familiar with case law in Tey-has and has the text of the formal statutes, I'd like to hear from. Now I must say I'm impressed that someone stood up for the family, and having been on both sides of that fence, I am grateful to see caution applied. But in my state you lose your house, freedom, and kids for a stunt like that. This was no accident. This guy got the key to the city. If you want to show respect for his family I'm all good with that. But lets charge him with a real crime.

Any suggestions? A slap on
Any suggestions? A slap on the wrist puts the mothers of dead soldiers at risk.
Did Larry Northern contribute a child to this War?
I'm no lawyer but...
I think the asshole should be prosecuted as a federal hate crime.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_crime
Yep!
Yep!
Old Roy Bean is no longer a practicing judge...
in Texas. Nevertheless, their laws, their sense of criminality is different from what most of us expect.
I would say, that if a Dem had done something like that, even in Texas, he/she would have been charged under the Patriot Act without bail set--perhaps a few months at Gitmo.
I thought Texas just
I thought Texas just executed EVERYBODY convicted of a crime!
"They want the federal government controlling Social Security
like it's some kind of federal program."
- George W. Bush in a debate in St. Charles, Mo., Nov. 2, 2000
NO.
They only execute the innocent and those whose lawyers have fallen asleep during trial.
They also execute mentally
They also execute mentally retarded people. Bush could get the chair.
Values don't mean much
these "patriots" think it is ok to mow down crosses that are memorials to dead soldiers; to wear purple hearts as a joke at the Republican convention meant only to demean the thousands of men who have fought for this country. Then they call us "traitors" when we want to end the war. Shame on them! We need to start screaming louder! We need to take to the streets!
Leaders are willing to take risks
and unforturnately our people in House
Senate and DLC(have positioned themselves as leaders in our party)
run hide under their desks at the least hint of controversy.
In monitoring TV it appears only a few
"Ex- Congressmen such as Sen. Breaux
and Congresmen Frost and yes Mark
Green(NY Public Ad) were around to
speak on behalf of Democrats. Only
Mark Green gave a serious defense of
the Cindy Shehan situation.
OH Yes--Feingold did come out and take
a stand. He is of course being described as Lefty or "LIBRUL".
This reminds me so much of the time
leading up to the Iraq War when
everyone was accusing the Dems of
"hiding under their desks."
No matter what your opinion of George Bush -- he takes risks and thkis is
what makes his followers and our
Media see him as a leader. He is seen as having a spine.
If you note, his poll numbers as
poor to terrible and people do not
believe the war was worth it.---
they are still saying we must
not cut and run. Do not forget the
War situation was bad at past election
and the Republicans won. The main thing helping them was--a lot of average people who were to vote for
Kery--got cold feet and feared
changing leaders in middle of war.
They perceived Bush as the stronger leader--He is willing to take risks.
Right now on all CableNetworks the
Democrats are being described as the "Cut and Runnerss".
What is wrong with our so called leaders getting their behinds on
TV and saying--Yes, our party has
a Pacifist Wing. This is a matter
of conscience for them.They have
as much a right to freedom of conscience as the Religious Right.
Further most Democrats believe and
demand to see a plan for the remainder
of our time in Iraq. Bush was given
a bank check going into this war--
we are calling in our chits. America
cannot afford Billions in perpetuity.
The deaths and disabilities of our
children fighting this war are climbing tooo fast. Democrats are
not for cutting and running --we
need to see light at the end of the
tunnel. What is our plan for wrapping up this blunder??
As long as our party does not step
up to the bat, the Republians will
win. Just being mad at Bush will not
win one election. Congress gave him the bank check.
As long as our party runs away from its own members--they look wimpish and
indecive. In other words they are
not seen as leaders.
The Republicans have Deemed Cindy coverage over by this weekend.
Some Free Republic types have a
Bus Tour across the Country on
"Cindy Shehan does not speak for
us!" theme. They leave on Monday
I beleve .
Leadership, Leadership Leadership.???
In las Vegas , Nv a girl hit and killed kids at a bus stop
and was deemed twice the illegal limit under a prescription of a medicine labeled not to drive under the influence , and got probation for three years. when a guy two months ago ran off the road eating a sandwich, and hit a parks and recreation maintenance worker in North Las Vegas, and the guys legs had to be amputated, and they nearly sentenced the guy to death, the maintenance worker was Italian, and the kids at the bus stop were Mexican. the severity of the crime doesnt matter, it does matter who you are, and what Judge you are scheduled to see?
Justice is blind, and so are we when it comes to Letting the Truths to be held self Evident that , not all are treated equal under the Law.
Welcome to Democrats.com,
Welcome to Democrats.com, and thanks for the contribution. What do these Nevada cases have to do with the topic of this forum however? The originator was talking about the idiot who ran over the crosses in Texas -- on purpose.
Now I Been On Here for 21/4 hrs and you have not been very
Welcoming to me, on my other post nor this one, and just to have the authority to delete one's post , does not make anyone less important here or better, Dont thank me for the contribution on one hand and on the other slap me in the face with flip flopping insults and compliments , Mr Bill Harding ,its just not ethical, It's simply an anology, open your mind and , breathe a little, dont be retentive or to eager to pounce, criticism is for mother's

This is a private, moderated, blog for progressive Democrats, and we are more than just a place to vent -- we are a community. Being a part of a community requires both listening AND talking. Usually, the listening part comes first.
You are on a private site
You are on a private site with publishing privileges not rights. You have broken rules and are being informed like everyone else. This happens. With thousands of pages of text there is a lot of work for the moderators who give of their time freely. I think if you read the blog and track past threads you will find that all kinds of rules are broken and without the work of the moderators democrats.com would go downhill fast. Nobody knows who anyone is AT FIRST. Take a little time, listen to the moderators, and you will retain your privileges, paid for by democrat.com and the labor of volunteers.
I am not just venting, I am a Contributing Member
and theres a time and place for everything, and thank god for the freedom of expression and the right to express oneself, and may I add its not neccesary to influence or campaign by using your opinon as "we" and "us", it is simply your opinion, you could say the same thing to ten different people and they may not all agree with you or hear the same thing , the way you presented it, let people express themselves the way they do on a subject matter , wheter you can relate it or not to the issues at hand! Please..

Once again. THIS IS NOT A PUBLIC FORUM. Others are working to pay for it. Others are working as volunteers to moderate the site. This site has a particular point of view with just a few restrictions but they are enforced. If you write for a magazine you can NOT write just anything, there are some restrictions. So too with Democrats.com.
You know what, you come in
You know what, you come in here and break basic rules of Internet courtesy, post comments that have absolutely no relationship to the topic at hand, and then argue when these things are pointed out to you.
You have, so far, been an unpleasant guest, and it's my guess that it will be all downhill from here. Thank you for visiting us, but why don't you try a site that will be more to your liking?
Bub bye...
Bill, I think you are
Bill,
I think you are right on target with presenting democrats.com as a community. It occurred to me as well that democrats.com is a bit like a magazine and some of the rules there should apply here as well.
Jim
thanks guys
