Cindy Sheehan Breaks Through Apath

I applaud mother of fallen soldier, Cindy Sheehan, for her vigil outside Bush’s retreat ranch in Texas. I like how she is not content to sit at home and do nothing about the Iraq war.

Cindy Sheehan is not apathetic. How could she be when she has experienced the heart break of losing a son, who was deployed in Iraq? Cindy Sheehan cannot be apathetic. She wants answers and she is willing to go to great lengths to get them.

The rest of us, as Americans, cannot afford to be apathetic about Iraq as well. We were misled, told there were weapons of mass destruction. There were none.

We should be enraged --- because now the U.S. is in a mess over in Iraq – we’ve fostered insurgency after insurgency. We have begun turmoil in the country and new leader after leader is killed there. When we leave, there will probably be coup after coup, until another dictator rises to power.

We cannot invade countries and attempt to apply U.S. laws and politics onto a completely different country with different history and culture.

So, we should all be speaking out like Sheehen, in our own way instead of allowing our leaders to invade countries without just cause.

Vigils Tomorrow Across Country for Cindy

I found out there are vigils all over the country tomorrow to support Cindy and speak out against the war.

Here's the link to find one in your own area:

I put in my own zip code and got about 30 different Cindy vigils.

For those of us who remember

For those of us who remember the 60s, this has a kind of Kent State feel about it.

Rush's message

Today, Rush talked about how Bush had been so compassionate with the families of many fallen soldiers. This would be in the news soon. Now, Newsweek is describing how he has met with the families of fallen soldiers at bases and has deeply touched them. Do these soldiers' families get prescreened? Why is he so sad and apologetic with them and called Cindy "Mom" ? It is amazing that the media has an answer for everything. We never realized what a saint that we had for president. Does this ring true to anyone? The media events never seem to end. There is an answer for everything and it always ends up that the depth of George's soul is deeper than the deepest ocean and higher than the tallest mountain. Bush can never be ordinary. He is a man among men. No way! He is an actor. Last year, he was handing out that water to the hurricane victims in the state of Florida. He never said anything about the tragedy at the Indian school. Bushco selects its media events well. Don't waste any action if you can't get a vote out of it. No one saw Karl cutting those onions for George before the meetings began. Crocodile tears and
hugs and kisses from a cold blooded creature don't convince me of anything. The Vietnam War years taught Bush a lesson. He now can campaign and still serve the military without going AWOL. What a guy!

His compassionate side is now being sold...

This guy also mowed down 50 American flags when he wiped out the crosses. I am betting that he is the kind of guy who would want anyone else jailed for any destruction/desecration of a flag or a cross.

A nice day for Cindy and freedom of speech

The County Commission down in Waco delayed any action on barring protests on the
ranch's road for 4 weeks. Interestingly, that puts it past the end of Bush's vacation.

Also, a neighboring farmer, who happens to be a cousin of the rancher who shot the gun off,has offered his land for Camp Casey. This land is actually closer to the ranch then where Cindy and the other Gold Star Families for Peace have been!

Vigil in Support went well

I attended one of the vigils in support of Cindy tonight and it went well --- there were about 30 different vigils or so in the Seattle area -- maybe more

Here's Mike's story of the hit and run

cross and flag terminator.
http://michaelmoore.com/words/index.php?id=3711

Question;

Why isn't the SOB who did this heinous act
helping to repair/ restore the crushed crosses?

Give him the work in jail-he's got the time.

Cindy is also facing

Cindy is also facing increasing harrassment from the Secret Service and local fascists.

From Antiwar.com's blog this morning:

Camp Casey Attacked
The hate campaign conducted by the War Party against Cindy Sheehan has finally culminated in an attack on "Camp Casey," the site of a growing protest against the Iraq war in Crawford, Texas, according to this report. Apparently, a man in a pick-up truck barreled into Camp Casey, and, wielding a chain, knocked down 150 road-side crosses representing the Iraq war dead. The truck then suffered a blown-out tire, and law enforcement, we hear, have the man in custody.

Sheehan has alerted her supporters that the Secret Service is pressuring her to leave Crawford. According to this report, Thursday morning the residents of Camp Casey were jolted awake by a fourteen-car convoy of Secret Service SUVs, as the drivers leaned on their horns as they passed the camp at high speed. Earlier, a local resident, Larry Mattlage, fired his gun in the air in the vicinity, and, when asked why, replied:

“We're going to start doing our war and it's going to be underneath the law. Whatever it takes.”

A more accurate description of the War Party's agenda and methodology could hardly be articulated.
http://www.locustfork.net/blog/archives/2005/08/secret_service_1.html

And this does not bode well for future demonstrations. If they can do it in crawford they can do it anywhere they like!

Mclennan County Commisioners Court has an
action item
on tomorrow's agenda: "Consider the prohibition of public demonstrations
along Prairie
Chapel Rd." This is real and real serious. They could pass this measure and
send the
Sherriff out and have Camp Casey cleared out by noon

Proud member of the reality based community.

If Cindy gets a little more attention

and this don't go away soon, you will see the real Republican machine go to work. So for it has been mild harrasment but real dogs have not been let out yet. That bunch is capable of anything short of murder if they consider you a threat and they are headed by Brother Karl Rove, and he is a nasty SOB. I wish Cindy the best against this bunch of scoundrels.

Don't bet murder isn't out.

Don't bet murder isn't out. Let's see Cheney questioned for the death of CIA personnel and Delay's friend Abramoff "business partner" ends up dead. I put nothing past these assholes!

Thanks Necco, now I have to go take a shower!

Maybe all the welfare whores over at Free Republic could stop getting their defense for free, or nearly so, and start paying the troops what they are worth. While they’re at it, maybe they could get off their effeminate asses and sign up instead of leaving the troops to hang in perpetual stop loss. If even one out of a hundred of present Bush supporters signed up the troops could come home! They’ve done more than their fair share.

Necco, thanks for the link.

I really have a hard time understanding the minds of those people.
A few( very few) did speak out against him, but mostly because he
was spreading a 'bad image' of the Bush supporters and garnering
support for Cindy.
They show little concern that what he did was heinous and disgusting.
And now, some of those idiots are chanting the "Don't Mess with Texas"
mantra.- Hello, the man giving Cindy's camp a safe place to stay is a Texan!!

Yeah, it was heading over the top...

perhaps they did pull it. The KKK over there at freeperland were really doing everything except burn the broken crosses created by one of their own: Larry Chad Northern.

Not surprising that they had to pull it. Will spend some time(this is my weekend right now)looking for another to start up over there.

Their poor brains

I believe after reading the messages on this site that the human race has devolved. They can't spell over there and thinking must be painful. I did learn something that I didn't know before. If it moves tax it, if it keeps moving regulate it, and if it stops moving subsidize it. The progressive liberals agenda has been summed up by this erudite group in three clever phrases. If they all weren't so meanspirited and horrible, I would pity them. Not one of them has probably ever stood up for any cause more "noble" than protesting an increase in the cigarette tax or the requirement to wear shoes and a shirt in a store or restaurant. They probably think that psychobabble is a real word and understand what an obsolete hula hoop means in a marriage. I am just glad that Cindy and the rest of the people were not injured and have moved to a safer place. George Bush polarized America into two camps-"the have brains and souls" and "the decerebrate have nots who are still wandering in the desert looking for WMD's". What will happen when they realize that George's quest for "Iraqi democracy" will end in a new Islamic state? They probably won't understand it anyway.

front page - Yahoo News

I can't believe it is actually on the front page of YAHOO News.

More than 1,600 vigils were planned Wednesday from coast to coast by liberal advocacy groups MoveOn.org Political Action, TrueMajority and Democracy for America. A large vigil was also planned in Paris.

Some critics say Sheehan is exploiting her son's death to promote a left-wing agenda supported by her and groups with which she associates.

snip

In Minnesota, about 1,000 war protesters stood on a bridge linking Minneapolis and St. Paul. "This war has been disgraceful, with trumped-up reasons," Sue Ann Martinson said. "There were no weapons of mass destruction and the Iraqis didn't have anything to do with 9-11."

Nearly 200 people gathered on the courthouse steps in Hackensack, N.J., with many saying they were angry about the war but were supporting U.S. troops.

snip

Meanwhile, a group called FreeRepublic.com held a pro-Bush rally in the same Washington, D.C., park where 300 people had gathered for a candlelight vigil. At one point, members of the two sides had a heated exchange over who was more patriotic.

"If they don't want to support it, they don't have to support it," said Iraq war veteran Kevin Pannell, who had both legs amputated after a grenade attack last year in Baghdad. "That's the reason I lost my legs."

So Cindy Sheehan is promoting a left-wing agenda and the Right is still "supporting the war." Why does the press always paint the left as looney and those who love war as the reasonable ones? And a disabled vet is advancing the President's agenda but Cindy can't speak for her son or other dead soldiers? Pathetic!

apoligies for the bad link to freeperville...

I screwed up...thanks for fixing it Necco.

Now a new problem coming up for Cindy:

Under the auspices of an organization called: MoveAmericaForward.org
and KFSO San Francisco...a caravan is due to cross the country starting in SF and continuing on to Crawford toward the end of August...with stops and press times set up during the trip by Melanie Morgan of KFSO(SF hate radio).

There are two current threads at FR which are frothing at the idea of a counter protest. The caravan is leaving SF on Monday 8-22.

Camp Casey

Thank you Real American, for this info. I've been hoping that this would take off -- Camp Casey sounds like a marvelous locale for Anti-War ground-zero. I wrote the following a couple of days ago, before Cindy had to leave. hmmmm

Cindy and Camp Casey:

Maybe soon is the time to gather, all. Gather to begin speaking loudly about the end of the imperialistic madness of King George. Gather until the madness is gone – whether a day, a week, a month, a year – simply gather, and grow, until the madness is gone.

Cindy has begun the gathering. She has asked us to join her, and maybe we should do just that. A gathering of 10,000 at Camp Casey would speak loudly. An on-going gathering could become an on-going voice. Camp Casey could become ground zero for ending the madness of King George. Rotating in and out, a thousand in and a thousand out every day, George might begin to understand that our voice will no longer be silenced.

Maybe Cindy does not even have to be present for Camp Casey to continue. If she is willing, perhaps Casey’s voice can continue, even in her absence. Cindy can go home, rest, and come back whenever she wants. Camp Casey can become ground-zero for countering the madness of King George. Pretty neat, too, that he lives across the street.

Cindy's Mom had a stroke. She's traveling

to Los Angeles to be with her.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with her.

( from Mike's website)

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/index.php?id=3763

CRAWFORD, Texas - The grieving woman who started an anti-war demonstration near President Bush's ranch nearly two weeks ago left the camp Thursday after learning her mother had had a stroke, but she told supporters the protest would go on.

Cindy Sheehan told reporters she had just received the phone call and was leaving immediately to be with her 74-year-old mother at a Los Angeles hospital.

"I'll be back as soon as possible if it's possible," she said. After hugging some of her supporters, Sheehan and her sister, Deedee Miller, got in a van and left for the Waco airport about 20 miles away.

Vote still open

I voted. People agree with her but don't like her tactics. Gee, I guess that they don't like civil disobedience and didn't like Gandhi. What would they like better? Maybe, Cindy should just torch herself in her grief. It is really bad for this woman to want to talk to the leader of the "Free" World. How great a sacrifice do you have to make to earn an audience? I could have gotten to see Mr. Bush "supposedly" at a dinner party if I paid $3,000/plate and could have been the owner of a cup or plaque with his face on it. Somehow, the Republican Party doesn't know my political leanings or maybe the GOP thinks that I can be bought. Irregardless of this, Cindy's loss as well as the loss of a loved one experienced by every other spouse, mother, father, grandparent, sibling or child is greater than any amount of money. We can't put a price on these lives. Crisp George can surely make it up the road but he just won't because he doesn't care that we the people of the United States suffer or mourn. For the other mothers who think that we are proterrorists trying to hurt their children, what would you have us do? If I saw a child, who was not my own, riding a bike straight toward the edge of a cliff, I would do everything that I could to stop him from reaching that cliff. He isn't my child but he is someone's child and I know that I must try to protect him. This is how we feel about all of your children. Bush lied. Nothing that he told us about Iraq has been true. The soldiers are dying because they truly believe that they are protecting us and keeping us safe. We want to protect them from an administration and a political agenda which values the wealth and power of 1% of the people more than the lives of the 99% of the people who don't count.

The vote swung one point to

The vote swung one point to 44% agree with Cindy.

Cindy has suceeded

She has gotten the whole country(the world?) to look and listen to her for a moment. She has proven to be a shrewd and determined political force.
God Bless her.

Going to Crawford where there are dozens of reporters who are looking for stories, with very little coming out of the presidents entourage, is a brilliant move.

If Cindy ends up in handcuffs, The Presidents credability on Iraq is done, over, completely used up.

This pretzeldent has never had any credibility...

not in anything he has attempted.

Grinch, I like the new title

Grinch, I like the new title for Bushie!

I didn't dream it up...sad to say...

it came into use on our old boards when Bush was attacked by a frisky pretzel and was badly wounded by it. His dogs however, didn't go to his aid but instead remained in front of the tv watching the game.

The damage to Bush's cheek from the attack of the pretzel looked very much like the damage done by a frying pan...perhaps Laura helped the pretzel out a wee bit.

I remember that well.

The late night talk show hosts had a field day.
That was one weird episode, especially regarding
his dogs. Were they thinking of 'survival of the fittest?'
;-)

There was another report from Crawford over

at DU today. Much was said about the pitiful show put on by the pro-war protesters.

They made a huge sign...again not spelling correctly...so the Moran guy has competition.

One report had lots of chuckles throughout the thread:

A group of bikers was at the pro-war camp. They had parked in the street. Sheriffs went over to talk to the bikers and met with some backtalk. Apparently the sheriffs pushed the bikes over and into the ditch.
