The CAFTA Fifteen - Will the Dem Quislings Pay the Price?

Sirota's hoppin' mad about the sellout by the CAFTA 15. Anyone one of whom cast the deciding vote in the one vote passage of CAFTA. He's "Targeting the 15 Democratic sellouts" over at Working Assets blog and reporting Dem Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi "Steps Up & Demands Accountability" on his SirotaBlog...

Roll Call has a new report up about... Nancy Pelosi (D) holding an emergency meeting of the House Democratic Steering Committee tonight to discuss formal sanctions against the 15 Democrats who sold out their party and voted for the corporate-written Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Pelosi raised "the likelihood that defectors' committee assignments would be reviewed at tonight’s meeting of the Steering Committee." That's absolutely necessary - why should Democrats who undermine their party be given plum committee assignments over other, far more loyal and principled Democrats? Pelosi should be commended for her courage - and now she needs to back up her words with action. The story goes on to note that "Several Democratic sources said Pelosi and other House leaders are particularly upset with New York Reps. Greg Meeks and Ed Towns, members of exclusive committees with safe seats, who voted for CAFTA...."

Hey! Might we have an evolving Nancy "The Hammer" Pelosi? Ready and willing to pound in a lil' party discipline? "Bout time... She's also hinting their might be some Ethics Committee action coming down the pipe regarding the dirty dealings of the Republican leadership during the CAFTA vote proceedings. See - Pelosi questions Republican tactics in CAFTA win

Thanks to Democrats.com member Shayne for pointing out Sirota's ongoing campaign against Dem Quislings and the CAFTA 15 in particular. And thanks to Democrats.com member Kate Anne , here's the Dem Quisling's contacts, share your feelings with them on their sellout on CAFTA.

"The Gang of Fifteen"

This is the email that I sent to each one of "The Gang of Fifteen". I hope you guys will do the same. Their contact numbers are on the original post by Cactus Pat.

How does it feel to undermine the basic Democratic Party's principal for the support of the American worker and the American Middle Class? It was a sad day for the Democratic Party when you voted for CAFTA! I hear that in some of your votes you have sided with corporate America to the detriment of the "little" guy. I understand that labor isn't going to make any further contributions to your re-election campaign. And I hope that the House Democratic leadership will remove you from any prized committee membership. And by copy of this I'm asking the DNC and DFA to not contribute any of my donations to your or the rest of the "Gang of Fifteen's" campaigns. I hope others will follow suit. We don't need Republican clones like you in the Party.

Shayne Munger

P.S. When I get a chance I'm going to write a letter to the editor of your local paper essentially telling their readers the same thing!

P.P.S. My real address is in Riverside, CA 92504 but I really had to send this to tell you how a dedicated Progressive Democrat feels about your vote on CAFTA.

I sent Moran my thoughts.

I live in VA. I watched the midnight vote live on C-SPAN and was curious as to who those Dems were. If the funds for these dry up and they loose, maybe they can run a loyal Dem the next time.

Absolutely

If they can abandon their party at a time of need, then we could dump them overboard without a second thought.

Sirota sums it up very nicely

Sirota has a great point and I don't think most people realize how close we are to controlling Democratic legislation, if there were just a little more voting loyalty:

These are the 9 Democrats who are the difference between House Democrats being in the majority and the minority - they are the people who undermine the vast majority of honest/courageous Democrats who fight for ordinary people in Congress everyday. They are the ones who make it consistenly impossible for Democrats to deliver a message that they are the party that stands up for ordinary working people in this country. The fact is, if Democrats are going to be in the minority for the forseeable future, it would be better if these folks were defeated, because they do more harm than good to a party that desperately needs unity to let America knows what it stands for.

One of these yours?

Sirotablog updates his list. HE IS SO RIGHT! Feinstein and Lieberman sitting in a tree, k i s s i n g............

Sirotablog
http://www.davidsirota.com/

There are 11 Democrats from both the House and Senate who are consistently undermining their party, even though they win re-election easily, and thus have positively no excuse for their willingness to aid and abet the Republican Party/Corporate America's extreme economic agenda. They are:

Senator Tom Carper (D-DE)
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)
Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT)
Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN)
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX)
Rep. Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX)
Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT)
Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY)
Rep. Dennis Moore (D-KS)
Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA)
Rep. John Tanner (D-TN)

These are the people who should, for starters, get absolutely no money or grassroots resources from organized labor or regular working people in general. And they are the people that should be high on the list when progressives think about which Democratic lawmakers need to know there are political consequences to selling America out.

Lieberman and Feinstein are

Lieberman and Feinstein are the two DLC-ers that need to be replaced first, and then we can work on the rest of the gang. These two have done more harm to the Democratic Party than Karl Rove.

AP publishes make believe CAFTA signing

I just hate it when AP or Reuters (the two most frequent violaters of this) publishes imaginary news stories. Like this one, published eight hours before it actually occurs just to make the morning editions. Note the time stamp! 1:55 AM (ET)

Signing Ceremony for Trade Bill Arrives

Aug 2, 1:55 AM (ET)

By JIM ABRAMS

WASHINGTON (AP) - pResident Bush's signature puts the final touch on the Central America Free Trade Agreement, an accord with six Latin American countries that Congress barely approved after a bruising battle over the future of U.S. trade policy.

The signing ceremony Tuesday in the East Room of the White House comes after the administration last week eked out a 217-215 vote in the House, achieving a much-needed political victory after months of intense lobbying...
