In Memory of Andy Stephenson
This week we lost Andy Stephenson after a painful struggle with cancer.
Andy was one of the heroes of the verified voting movement, and I had the privilege of meeting Andy earlier this year. Andy was our guest on BlogCall7 in April to discuss evidence of election fraud in Ohio and Florida.
Symbolman of TakeBackTheMedia.com created this lovely tribute to Andy. KaryninMiami asked me to post her tribute:
A sad day for democracy.
Andy Stephenson, a hero in the fight to protect our democracy and our right to have our vote count, passed away this past Thursday. He was one of those rare people who was so dedicated to making a difference, that even after learning of his very serious illness he never lost site of his focus on what mattered most to him - voter, verified paper ballots and healthcare for every American.
He was an extraordinary person, a hero of democracy and a wonderful friend. Knowing that he is now free of the pain that had taken over his body these past few months it is a comfort to know that he is free now and has left it all behind
Here's a story that truly exemplifies who he was.
As they wheeled him into surgery at John's Hopkins last month, Andy whispered to the nurse- "No matter what happens to me, please remember these words -Voter Verified Paper Ballots." The nurse replied "But Andy, I voted in the election!" to which Andy replied "But do you know if your vote counted?"Andy's spirit and dedication will be very missed by many. He was truly a star and his light will continue to shine in the hearts of everyone he touched.
Andy, we promise to carry on your fights for honest elections and universal health care!

I'm speechless
(okay...I'm not.)
I would like to say a few words about the gift that Andy received from his internet family.
Until you've been with your back up against the wall with a life/death struggle ahead of you, but you have to scale the mountain of medical bills before you can even get started, it's hard to know what a relief it is when the financial burden is lifted from the shoulders of a cancer patient when the worry over medical bills has been taken care of by a kind soul...or two...or thousands...who step up to say 'How can I help?'
There are few of us in this life who have experienced such situations, especially to the extent Andy did, but some of us have had a small taste of what it is like to know the feeling of having that burden lifted so that the healing can begin. Some of the kindest souls I have ever met are on the internet and they're mostly democrats :-) - and you know who you are - so I'd like to say, on behalf of anyone out there who is uninsured and facing the struggle of a lifetime, that Andy received one of the greatest gifts someone can receive before leaving this world, because he found real wealth - a wealth of friends.
Sometimes we know why we're democrats...
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
I really am speechless
Bob, is there something that the rest of us here can do for his friends and family?
Beautifully stated, Necco.
Several members of my family have or are now
battling cancer.
Your words come from your heart and experience.
True friends are indeed wealth.
