Karl Rove: Indictment coming?

Rove has a history of denying and lying about leaks

When Karl Rove was axed from the 1992 Bush-Quayle campaign in Texas for leaking a hit piece on a Bush family friend he denied it and said the charges were false, the September 30 edition of the Houston Chronicle reported. Additional information that isn't surfacing in the national media can be found at Texas Monthly. Being a sinner in Shrubby's book is one thing. But from the perspective of an independent counsel, being an Enron investor with a dicey track record who is desperately seeking plausable denial... things look just a tad different.

***********************************

Interesting older column here by that dirty little unpatriotic rat Robert Novak in which he takes Ron Suskind to task for "errors" in an Esquire piece that linked Rove with a leak to Novak and Rove's subsequent 1992 Bush campaign firing. Novak writes:
Unfortunately, I did not escape Suskind's article, which includes these sentences: "Sources close to the former president say Rove was fired from the 1992 Bush presidential campaign after he planted a negative story with columnist Robert Novak about dissatisfaction with campaign fund-raising chief and Bush loyalist Robert Mosbacher Jr. It was smoked out, and he was summarily ousted." I was called by no fact-checker, who would have learned of multiple errors.

Suskind has confused former Secretary of Commerce Robert Mosbacher Sr., Bush's 1992 chief fund-raiser, with his son Rob, who headed the Bush campaign in Texas (Victory '92). Criticism of the younger Mosbacher, a frequent unsuccessful candidate in Texas, was not "planted" with me by Rove but was passed to me by a Bush aide whom I interviewed. Rove was indeed fired by Mosbacher from Victory '92 but continued as a national Bush-for-president operative. Robert Novak, Townhall.com, December 5, 2002.

Wow! Big news http://breakingnews.redstate.org/story/2005/7/1/211919/6580

I realize a few diaries have already talked about RedState user OhSure's comment (supposedly confirmed by good sources) that Rove is to be indicted soon, but here's a little more on the coming indictment from Dissident Voice's Joshua Frank (the link comes courtesy of Come And Take It, a community of Texas left wing bloggers):

Occasionally I get emails from Washington folks who work on the Hill claiming to possess juicy insider digs on our public servants and their corporate paymasters. I usually delete said emails, as I don't want to be responsible for propagating dirty rumors or false information that can't be corroborated. I'd rather let Judith Miller and the New York Times do that. Nonetheless, in the past 24 hours I have been contacted by three separate congressional Democrats in Washington, by email and later phone, who all say the same thing: Karl Rove is about to be indicted.

Joshua Frank also makes note of the RedState comment:

Apparently, I'm not the only one who has been leaked this information either. Over at Redstate, a right-wing Internet blog, one member who calls himself "Ohsure", also claims that "[four] Great sources confirmed" the matter, and later added: "I not only don't do this, I have never done this. But here it is; `Karl Rove will be indicted late this, or early next week.' I'm trusting a source. So either I am made a [sic] into an overzealous horses a**, or..., I have good sources and may be more trusted to get these things right."

It looks like Rove isn't going to be able to weasel out of this. I've been skeptical since the start (as one Kossack put it "I'm afraid to get excited about this like a poor kid is afraid to get excited about Christmas) but this is definitely hopeful news. The Washington buzz is that Rove will be indicted; now let's work on that conviction.

But what about all the speculation that this could unravel something a little higher up? It looks like the White House is seeking some heavy duty cover; namely Jim Sharp. The link, also via Come And Take It, has some exceprts from FindLaw and RawStory explaining the implications of Bush seeking outside counsel and elaborating on Jim Sharp's expertise in covering up GOP "accidents", including his involvement in representing some big players in Iran-Contra.

The ball is rolling, and it will not be stopped.

RAW STORY

A letter penned by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) calling on Bush adviser Karl Rove to explain or resign over his role in outing a CIA agent has garnered a handful of signatories in the House, RAW STORY has learned.

Just 17 members have signed. Finding congressmembers to sign a letter during a Congressional recess is often difficult, and Conyers' office has extended a deadline for others to sign on until next Wednesday.

The current signers are Reps. John Conyers, Jr.; Maurice Hinchey; Sheila Jackson Lee; Sam Farr; Diane Watson; Barbara Lee; Zoe Lofgren; Danny Davis; Henry Waxman; Corrine Brown; Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick; Raul Grijalva; James McGovern; Bernie Sanders; Lynn Woolsey; Mike Honda; and Carolyn Maloney.

Deputy White House chief of

Deputy White House chief of staff Karl Rove recently took out a $100,000 line of credit from Wells Fargo Bank, according to real-estate records obtained by NEWSWEEK. The loan is secured by Rove's vacation home in Rosemary Beach in the Florida Panhandle worth more than $1 million, according to his most recent financial disclosure. Rove signed the loan papers on Oct. 22—just nine days after he testified before the grand jury for the fourth time. A White House spokeswoman said Rove's new line of credit is "unrelated" to his legal expenses.

Bob Novak Says President Knows Leak Source

Newspaper columnist Robert Novak is still not naming his source in the Valerie Plame affair, but he says he is pretty sure the name is no mystery to President Bush.
"I'm confident the president knows who the source is," Novak told a luncheon audience at the John Locke Foundation in Raleigh on Tuesday. "I'd be amazed if he doesn't."

"So I say, 'Don't bug me. Don't bug Bob Woodward. Bug the president as to whether he should reveal who the source is.' "

http://www.newsobserver.com/659/story/377675.html

Schumer, D-N.Y., urged Bush to share the identity of Novak's sources if the president knows.

"You are in a position to clear this matter up quickly," Schumer said in a letter to the president on Wednesday.

"Unlike Mr. Novak, who can claim an interest in maintaining the confidentiality of his sources, there is no similar privilege arguably preventing you from sharing this information," Schumer wrote.

"You have repeatedly suggested that you would like to get to the bottom of this affair," Schumer reminded Bush. "At one point, in 2004, you suggested that anyone who was involved in leaking the name of the covert CIA operative would be fired."

Once again the Damn

Once again the damn Democrats did it hehehehe

Novak said his role in the Plame affair "snowballed out of proportion" as a result of a "campaign by the left."

But he also blamed "extremely bad management of the issue by the White House. Once you give an issue to a special prosecutor, you lose control of it."

I wish that we were as powerful as Mr. Novak seems to think we are. We might have more Democrats in the government.

It looks as if they are going to razzel dazzel us with this time line, about who told who first, until the whole thing becomes a fun house of smoke and mirrors and justice falls asleep from boredom.

The truth is that the WH did it, they did it intentionally and with malice and it was a crime. All the rest is just subterfuge.

Americans are getting killed by the thousands under the Republican’s watch.

The National Treasury has been plundered under the Republican’s watch.

Nuclear Arms are proliferating like mad under the Republican watch.

Government has grown infinitely under the Republican watch.

Republicans are taxing the shit out of us and planning on increasing taxes for the poor and middle class like mad. (I am happy to be corrected but since Republicans have recently borrowed more foreign money than ALL previous administrations, back to Washington COMBINED, and have given almost all of it to the very few at the top, I assume they are not going to pay for it someday by re-taxing those at the top.) About a quarter of our income tax now goes to interest on the debt!

Etc.

And this guy wants to talk about blacks. He wants to talk about gays.

Jim

Jim, that's all he can come

Jim, that's all he can come up with!

democratic gay plan

First thing first, to destroy the institution of marriage, then black pimps like killer "tookie" williams will be in control of the effeminates; and a lesbian communist, like hillary, will take this country to its demise. Is that what you want?

Moderator's Note: This is another example of the mentality of the anti-American fringe radical right-wing spewing hate and intolerance. Unfortunately, some "moderate" Republicans actually listen to these nut-cases. This troll's posts will be left for members and visitors to read, so they can remember why Progressive Democrats are so outraged.

What I want is you to leave

What I want is you to leave America and make a home for yourself in some Nazi-like State where you can truely be happy.

Get a job and stop living off the welfare of real men and women.

But please, before you go, grant us more of the Republican view on black people. After all, they as a group have not seen much in the way of admonitions.

I do have to thank you for

I do have to thank you for aiding in the wussification of America via Republicanism as you can get anyone to work for jack shit now that Republicans have taught many to adore the smell of thier boss's ass.

Your Republican Masters are

Your Republican Masters are laughing all the way to the bank as you bitch and moan about non issues. Stand up for yourself and stop following the shiny object your boss parades in front of you. Its embarrassing. You are laughed at behind closed doors as I am behind some of them when your fellow Republicans are laughing at you.

By the way, why are you not in Iraq?

This is a subject

This is a subject that we can and should be hitting over and over to these ignoramuses. Those running for office can not say a lot of things or must water them down to the point that the kool-aid drinkers don't get it. We can and must speak out clearly and make it easy to understand. They have Limbaugh and Hannity and O'Reilly, we have AAR and us, for the most part.

Right now the senate is cutting Pell Grants again. This can and will happen, because people like this guy, the troll, think that they are doing just fine and that their kids will get into college "some way" or that they don't need a college education any way or they just don't think beyond tomorrow at all.

When they [the mindless republican voters] talk about all the "welfare programs" that the Democrats love so much they think that these programs are for other people and not for them and their kids. And they think that they are paying all these taxes for bums who just don't want to work and are living high on the hog on tax handouts. Well the bums are not who these guys think they are.

How easy has it been for the bosses to convince the working man that he is lucky to have a job and that to complain or organize and demand a fair wage makes him a woosey? Mean while the rich are asking for and getting a $95B handout and it is coming out of our working guy's pocket.

So much is being cut from medical research that 79% of peer reviewed grants for major disease research will be turned down for lack of funds. This is so that $95B can be given to those making over $1m per year. Who will this guy blame when his mother gets Alzheimer's disease or any of the other debilitating, wasting diseases that this money could and should be funding research to treat and to cure and there is nothing that the doctors can do for her? Will he take comfort then in his belief that he too could have been a millionaire and gotten all those tax breaks? What a nice if irrational dream to keep him warm and fuzzy, when he is trying to live on his tiny savings in his old age. I guess that he will still find a way to blame gays and blacks and the Democrats for his life not turning out as he had hoped.

Proud member of the reality based community.

Di

So true Di!

It would be fine if these dopes just screwed themselves but their lack of backbone hurts their families and suppresses the wages of their neighbors.

Democrats put cash in the pockets of the bottom ~90% WITHOUT causing a shift in the jobs the top ~10% wish to do. Case closed.

Now if you can’t conceive of voting the same way on Economic matters as a Black man for example, then Republicans are correct to keep goading you into screwing yourself. It’s pathetic however. PATHETIC.

Jim

P.S. I had a really busy week but it looks like I should be able to repost to ARA within THIS coming week.

Senator Judd Gregg

Senator Judd Gregg Republican, New Hampshire just said on the senate floor that he appossed a $1.5 addition to the budget for heating assistance to the poor on the grounds that it would just add to the national budget that will put an extra burden on our children. What about the damn war of choice Senator! That is where the money went along with your damn tax refund for the rich!

Susan Collins asked that the senate vote yes, since the high temp in her state of Maine was 12 degrees this month and people are not able to afford heat in her state. I wonder if Gregg and those other rich republican bastards ever give a kind thought to the poor, many of whom are our aged parents and the working poor with small kids?! ARRRGGG!

Proud member of the reality based community.

Sick bastards!

Sick bastards!

The key around all the black hearted rhetoric is an opinion I hold:

Wages can be higher and prices lower for the VAST majority WITHOUT causing a shift in the jobs the top ~10% wish to do. That is the second side of the blade of Free Enterprise. If poor and middle class people want to vote against themselves what can you do? On the other hand I want this battle over Free Enterprise. I have staked out my opinion and am thrilled to have voters decide for themselves, either way, whether they believe CEOs, Movie Stars, etc. will do the same job for less so that the only effect on the economy is a massive shift of living standard for the vast majority.

I am also happy to NOT go beyond that. To NOT increase the standard of living of the vast majority to the point of causing CEOs to dig ditches rather than do the tough job of deciding which shade of chartreuse their new line of widgets should be. All for a crappy $1,000,000 per year salary. To do that is Socialism: inefficient and impinging on immorality. Nobody should be forced to do good.

Di and Jim,

It is unconscionable that anyone would begrudge
our lower income families, seniors, the disabled and working poor
assistance with heating this winter!! What are they supposed to
do, freeze to death this winter?!
My gas bill is up 50+%! It's four times what I pay for electricity. With our cold snap this fall, I would not be surprised if this month's bill passes the $200.00 mark. My average winter gas
bill used to be around $50.00/mo.

Frigging greedy, heartless bastards!!

AND they did not do one lick

AND they did not do one lick of work more for the increased compensation.

That is what we deserve for letting ourselves be divided along lines of race, sexual orientation, religion etc: A Republican Government of deep laziness at the top and words of admonition to all below.

I see you will not even

I see you will not even answer the Iraq question. Leaving the troops to hang in perpetual Stop Loss while you sit home and play is going to get the snot beaten out of chickenhawks like you when the troops get home.

You play whilst the troops are paid below market wages! You play while they die. Shame on you. The military welfare extended to you should cause you to pause and think.

The intellectual welfare extended to you by real Americans should likewise cause you to think.

The fact that you allow BUMS

The fact that you allow BUMS to F you and your family over because they convinced you to call them “entrepreneurs” rather than the word of our parents - “swindlers” - makes you particularly pathetic.

The fact that your first impulse at hearing this is to regurgitate the pabulum you’ve heard about entrepreneurs rather than seeing the world as it is, makes you nearly unredeemable. There are entrepreneurs and there are swindlers. If someone will do the same job for less money and YOU let them get away with jacking up thier salary many, many, many times higher then that level, then you are as un-American as it gets. At least with respect to the America of old when men were men, and not mice. You try that name calling socialist/communist crap with Americans of old, or the new crop of kids growing up, who know whats what, and watch the fists fly.

You wish to pump yourself up by looking down on others. The problem with all that is you are being played. Your boss does NOT believe what he is telling you to believe. That is how he became your BOSS! I do not really blame him for telling you that crap. I blame you for believing, what he, does not.

You had plenty of time to respond but did not. Sad. You might try thinking through all this rather than repeating what you are told. You may actually be capable, but nothing is going to change in your life until you stop bullshitting yourself. Your Republican plea to focus on all the boogiemen: Blacks, Gays, Lesbians, etc is never going to make for a better life for you, your family, or, of course, the aforementioned groups.

The only thing I addressed here tonight is the shell you are wearing. I did not hear one damned original thought. Just the constant drum of radio talking heads. Talking heads, I might add, that are also incapable of any real work.

You might simply try conversing rather than coming into someone elses living room and screaming accusations.
