Apparently all of the editors and producers in the corporate media believe "everybody knows" that 42% of Americans think Bush should be impeached for lying about Iraq, so it is "old news."
How else can we explain the fact that last week's Zogby poll which reported this finding received virtually no coverage?
We first heard the "everybody knows/old news" excuse when the same corporate media refused to publish the Downing Street Minutes after they were exposed in the Sunday Times on May 1. It wasn't "new news," they said, because "everybody knows" Bush lied about his reasons for going into Iraq.
To take this thinking to its logical extension, it won't be "new news" when Congress actually impeaches Bush, because "everybody knows" he lied and deserves to be impeached.
Interestingly, the only person who thinks the 42% figure is "new news" is pollster John Zogby himself, who was interviewed by Shailagh Murray of the Washington Post on Sunday:
Even the pollster couldn't believe his eyes. "It was much higher than I expected," John Zogby said of the 42 percent of voters who said they would support impeaching President Bush if it were established that he lied about his reasons for the Iraq war. The Zogby International poll was released Thursday and showed Bush's job approval rating at 43 percent.
By comparison, in October 1998, as the House moved to impeach President Bill Clinton over the Monica S. Lewinsky scandal, a Zogby poll found that 39 percent of voters supported the House action, while 56 percent opposed it.
Bush also fared worse within his own party. Among Republicans in the latest Zogby poll, 25 percent said they would support impeachment if Bush lied. Among Clinton's fellow Democrats, support for impeachment was below 14 percent.
Zogby said the hypothetical question "reveals just how badly divided this country is over the war," but also that people may be more comfortable with the idea of throwing a president out of office. "Presidents go to war and do things that are questionable by large numbers of citizens," said Zogby, but no one has ever been impeached for it.
Unlikely that the Republican-led House will begin proceedings anytime soon. But the Web sites are up and running. http://Impeachcentral.com is running a petition drive. http://Impeachbush.org is planning a march on Washington in September. http://Thefourreasons.org site argues that the Iraq invasion was unconstitutional. http://Afterdowningstreet.org asserts that Bush secretly decided to go to war and to mislead Congress in mid-2002.

If you wish to get into the details of this you will mostly lose, however you are correct in that outrage should exist regardless of party label.
Do you, however, think a long detailed argument of this can ever match what has happened to the US under Bush? The treasury has been plundered. Thousands of our soldiers killed. Tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians killed. All for lies. I mean, am I wrong about the lying? Would you bet a loved one’s life on the notion that Bush did not LIE about when he decided to go to war with Iraq?
I should also ask you if you have been truthful. In what sense are you presently an Independent?

Many knew leading up to the War that the intelligence was being “massaged”. If you do not know that you are just not listening any more. For those of us on the outside, watching nightly news casts, including FOX, anyone with a real education watched in shocked as little bits of fluff were turned into smoking guns.
We are in complete agreement to say that political fear played a role in the decisions many on the left and right made leading up to the Iraq war. We agree.
Could anyone have stopped this War other than Bush and the Republicans? I watched as this unfolded too, and I did not see a point in which political will could be mustered given that all three branches were held by one party. I, in fact saw quite the opposite. As resistance was mounted, the counter resistance grew. I could not see a way out by saying NO or by subterfuge.
You know full well already that Bush lied continuously to America. You know that, but somehow still feel that the ends justify the means. I understand that line of reasoning but I urge you to consider just how weak Bush has left the United States. This Right has rejected science and rational thought and regardless of you personal leanings on many issues you have gotten your wish. Republicans hold all three branches of government. Now Science is being rejected. The treasury is bare. Soldiers are forced into Stop Loss, while chicken hawks leave them hanging instead of signing up.
The saddest thing of all is that nothing is being done to fight terrorism.

and I doubt that you will bother to read any of the answers to your post, but I have to point out that you are really badly informed in this post, if you are blaming the democrats for most of this.
First there are degrees of wrong doing and the courts have always known that. A lie about adult consensual sex is very different than a lie that causes the death of any person. Even you must in your heart know that.
When and where was God taken out of schools? God was never taught in public schools.
As far as your litany, what you see as other peoples sins
that you call decay, what right do you think you have or the government should have, to make judgements for others about these things? For instance how can a gay person in any serious way harm you? If you don't believe in abortion I can respect that, so don't get one. If you aren't gay don't practice as one.
I fear that you and those who think as you do don't understand that the major reason that Ameircans can claim that this is the "greatest country in the world" is our civil rights. Our personal freedoms to do and to think as we wish, as long as our actions do not injure others or society at large. When you take the rights that you have mentioned as examples of decay away from Americans, you move this country toward sectarian government. Before you decide that is a good thing, imagine instead of your beliefs that dominating sect was the Jews or the Buddhists or the Suni Muslims. They too worship God and believe that their understanding of His law is correct and that yours is not.
As far as the war on drugs who is doing away with it? Can you back up any of your claims with any real proof?
Democrats didn't allow porn the Supreme Court made the ruling that porn is free speech and they are very conservative people on this court.
Finally, who told you that the black caucus condones rap? You Joe have either been fed a load of lies or you have made the whole scenario up yourself out of whole cloth.

I respect much of what you feel because some things come down to individual beliefs and this is America.
I do not know if you can hear me because politics causes all of our blood to boil and I certainly would not blame you if you can not, but some of your points are NOT being attacked by the Democratic Party. The Corporate Right is manipulating American conversations so as to drain the vast majority of Americans of their wealth. Presently the largest share of National Income since the Depression is going towards corporate profits instead of being distributed in wages the way it use to be when our parents fought back via the voting booth within the Democratic Party.
Let me give you just one tiny counter example of how you might not be seeing things the way this man, who also loves Jesus, sees things. I despise people throwing around the name of God. I may be wrong but as an American I believe I have an obligation to give back what I have leaned in life. I was raised to be respectful. I was raised NOT to use the name of God as currency for power. I do not believe in praying to get things. I believe our lives are our prayer. I consider it idolatry and rude to put a thousand pound statue of the 10 commandments in a court house. Again, I understand I may be right or I may be wrong but what is critical is that my voice and that of tens of millions like me are not being entertained on a media owned by just a few entities. NO, what they figured out about a decade ago is that you can divide people along various lines to their gain. In particular the barrens have decided to frame every argument as one between the Religious and the Secular. Being gentlemen we went along. We did not use the name of God to fight back. The argument has simply been “let’s discuss this from the point of view of only things we can prove, since each of us holds privately held beliefs which can not be proved.”
Well, my parents and grandparents would spin in their graves as well if they saw me arguing using God in a sentence. I hope our Nation regains its composure and civility. I for one will not have my beautiful children forced to prayer blasphemous prayers.
Please don’t take offense from the above, as I am NOT trying to convince you of my way of thinking on that matter. I am simply trying to point out that we are being fleeced by the Republican Party with massive taxes and crappy wages as they instigate fights amongst us.
